Neon_Matrix
Kinda non playoff talk but the Flames have fired Mike KeenanAfter a disappointing end to their season, the Calgary Flames announced the firing of head coach Mike Keenan on Friday afternoon."Our team did not meet expectations,? Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter said in a statement. ''Following detailed evaluation over the past three weeks, and taking into consideration all factors affecting our season ending result, we believe this is a necessary change required to allow our team to continue toward our objective of winning the Stanley Cup."Keenan became the Flames head coach on June 14, 2007. In two years with Keenan at the helm, the Flames posted a record of 88-60-16, making two playoff appearances but exiting in the first round both years. This season Calgary finished in fifth place in the Western Conference, but were eliminated by the Chicago Blackhawks six games into the post-season. "The Calgary Flames organization appreciates and respects Mike for accepting the opportunity to come to Calgary and are thankful for his efforts over the past two years."Calgary was Keenan's eighth stop as an NHL head coach. He is ranked fourth all-time among coaches in wins with 672, has 95 playoff wins and one Stanley Cup on his resume but since 1996, his teams have not made it past the first round of the playoffs - the St. Louis Blues the last to do so.I'm really intrigued about who will come in and fill there's talk off Ted Nolan, possibly Dave Lowry from the Hitmen or a bit of a long shot in Brent Sutter coming home to Alberta.there something to be said about a coach thats been fired by 1/4th of the league. I can't believe he continues to get a job.Got Peterborough their only Memorial Cup victory AND won a Stanley Cup. The guy has credentials... although they date back almost two decades and more... charger77
Maybe thats the problem. Everything he has done dates back nearly 2+ decades?-DanUnrelated, I met Keenan at the HHoF in 1998. He was a really great guy. He stopped for pictures and even let me try on his '94 Cup ring. CS85
Good to see the hawks finally step up and play with some balls in overtime. That 2nd period stretch was an absolute embarrassment, and stretches like that are why the wings still are the far superior team in the series. The hawks may not be the better team between the two, but they are the most resilient for sure. When the hawks can turn it on and play to their full potential, they're toe-to-toe with the redwings, home or away. However, they have to be less sloppy and more advantageous of opportunities. Detroit has murdered the hawks on both power plays and turnovers. Long way to go in this series. Go hawks. Quote "You are nothing more than a small cancer on this message board. Shumway
I missed last night's game, but I just watched a video of Kronwall's hit. Why exactly did he get 5-and-a-game for interference? It was a good, clean hit on a guy with the puck.

It was a good, clean hit on a guy with the puck.1. The NHL always punishes the injury and not the action.2. Havlat did not have control of the puck, but it was in his immediate area (down by his feet).3. The Brown hit on Hudler set a bad precedent. (An injury resulting from a hit = penalty, clean or not)4. The NHL seems to want to eliminate clean hits on players that don't see it coming. (I guess its kinda hard to argue that, but if you keep your head up and don't admire passes you'll be fine)-Dan PotD May 11th, 2011looooooogodud: June 7th 2010 - July 5th 2012
