This "thing" of not picking up the trophy is fairly new. I remember Lemieux picking up the trophy, same with Scott Stevens. I think not picking the trophy up is rather, well, stupid. Pick up the trophy.

Im looking forward to a Pens/Wings rematch. It should be a good series and I hope the Pens pull this one out. I hate the Wings with a passion and I want to see Crosby win the cup before Ovechkin.

Just seen on the bottom line of the NHL Network:

"PENGUINS WIN SERIES 4-0 AND WIN PRINCE OF WHALES TROPHY."

Come on now.

See? Subliminally, the NHL regrets the whole Carolina Hurricanes thing.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

I agree. Plus, the Pens need to do the exact opposite of everything they did leading up to last year's SCF. :P

Crosby is on a mission. All season long the talk was about Ovechkin. Obviously Crosby is took that to heart and he's set out to prove that he's the best player in the NHL and what better way to prove that than by winning the Stanley Cup.

Ive said it ever since Crosby and Ovechkin began their NHL careers, if I had to build my team around 1 player, Id choose Sidney Crosby.

Just remember that the man responsible for bringing the NHL into this era of indifference and, to paraphrase Greg, "retarded" marketing approaches, was a senior vice-president and general counsel to the NBA.

Read into that what you will.

Don't you :censored:ing dare. I NEVER said that. You should be ashamed of yourself for ever linking my name to that statement. I don't use those terms, and I wasn't the one talking about the marketing approaches.

So let's recap...

1) I didn't say what you are indirectly saying I said.

2) :censored: you, Brian. I'm deleting you from my FB friends. Take that! :P

Wouldn't it be funny if the Wings face the Pens again... only this time, the Pens win, leaving Marian Hossa still Cup-less in consecutive years on the exact opposite team.

I honestly hope that happens. It was sad yet funny when Gary Payton was jumping from team to team trying to win a title and I laughed at every failed attempt. I guess I'll do the same with Hossa, especially after the nonsense that was him getting traded from the Thrashers to the Pens.

Well... until he met D-Wade. :P

He went from the Thrashers to the Penguins, but I knew what you meant....

Hossa stayed true to his word. He and Waddell knew he wasn't going to re-sign here, so the Thrashers had to trade him. Then, keeping to his "I want to win the Cup now" vow, he passed on the multi-year deals with Pittsburgh and Edmonton to sign a 1-year deal with Detroit. Add to that, he didn't piss on Atlanta and the fanbase unlike that piece-of-dung Heatley did when he left town.

Hossa is a classy guy. I'd love to see him hoist the Cup.

Ah. Gotcha. Considering you're the guy with the most knowledge on the Thrashers, I'm gonna side with you. I keep on forgetting about Heatley, though. Shame how he left.

I'm having a terrible night. First I honestly thought that ORL/CLE was Game 5 tonight, then I mix up the Hossa trade. Time for bed, methinks.

I kinda like that though. I wish other sports would get rid of pointless celebrations after every series win (Baseball, I'm talking to YOU).

Plus, it's awesome that NHL 09 included that into the game. ^_^

Winning a conference series is not pointless, not to mention the Prince of Wales trophy is one of the oldest trophies in North American sports. This recent trend of treating it as some sort of an afterthought hasn't and will never sit well with me.

...and did Jigga agree with me?

Scared. :P

Hossa may have done what he said he would do, but it was still a kick in the nads to us. If you change teams because you want to win the cup, you're caring about yourself, and not your team, especially when you go to the team you just lost to because "they have a better chance". You don't win the cup for yourself... its a team sport, and a team prize. If the wings win again, then his team deserves to hoist it, but not necessarily him.

I don't hate Hossa, I'm not screaming "revenge!" or anything, but the chance at making someone like him feel like a fool after what he did is too great to pass up.

Besides, whatever gives the pens more motivation (than they already have), im all for it.

So you are against free agency?

LOL

That might be the dumbest thing Ive heard. Name me one guy in the NHL that doesnt want to win the cup? If a player wants to leave its his choice, whether its money or the cup. So if Hossa figures the Wings have a better shot at winning the cup than the Pens prior to the season, so be it.

Now if Hossa were to have stayed in Pittsburgh:

"This guy cares more about his team than anything else. He wants to finish what he couldnt complete last season."

I guess I didn't say that quite how I meant it. Whatever, it doesn't matter. Like I said before, I stopped caring about Hossa a long time ago now. Its just now that the pens actually have the chance to make him look foolish that I care again.
