Mariners Concept

Hey everybody. So since I made the switch to inkscape, I havn't posted a completed concept (I've done several, but I'm saving them for later. ;))

So anywho, I really like when cities have the same colour scheme for all their teams. See Pittsburgh. Since the Sonics moved away, Seattle has 1 major team NOT 2 tone blue, and lime green. That team would be the Mariners.

So the direction I went in was changing the colours, not using the compass, and tying the logos with Seattle more. The current scheme seems too dark, and the aqua isn't used much anymore. I went with the Space Needle used in all of these. This concept really goes back to this concept I did in my old redesigning the MLB thread.

The main logo uses aspects from this logo. The cap logos are a S and M(hahah) with the Space Needle. The scripts are basically the same. I added the Needle on the first letter in the same place as the cap logos.

For the jerseys, I changed a lot. I added piping to them. I also used the M's alternate numbers, since it ties in with the script. Plus, I mean, the other option was block. The BP is lime green. I chose that because another blue jersey wouldn't be as cool.

I tried my best to stay consistent with the numbers, and scripts.

So how'd I do? I have ideas for a Giants concept too.

C&C, por favor.

Yeah, this is incredible for a first shot at inkscape. I love the addition of the seahawks/sounders colors. its great when cities have the same colors, and I feel that these are perfect colors for Seattle. That being said, I have a couple critiques. The mountain in the primary logo is really whats giving me fits. I would fix up the snow cap on it. It's tough to tell what the white part is becuase of the little contrast between the lime green and white.

um, wow. i wouldnt think this was your first inkscape concept. very professional.

the only thing i want to point out is that, IMO, the S cap logo would go great with the away set, and the M for the home and alternate and BP. other than that, i love everything about it. i compared it to your paint mariners concept, and i can see there's a definite improvement, quality-wise. well, thats what you get when you use inkscape.

I honestly think you should choose one of the blues. They are too close and look very drab. Also lose one of the outlines on the script.

Also the space needle doesn't look right on the cap logos. It just looks tossed in. Try integrating it further.

I've done several inkscape concepts, including 5 into a future series of 32. But anywho thanks for the kind words.

Idea. How about...

Replacing a navy with a sky blue.

I could make the sky in the logo light blue, and the mountain grey. make it more realistic. I'll work on it more tomorrow.

They should have blue BP pants to go with the lime jersey... and blue side panels.

Since Seattle is about unifying colors, maybe the Ms could bust out the blue on blue mono in MLB.

I?m sorry; I?m just not a fan of the Space Needle in this logo or anymore Seattle logos. There?s no question the ?needle? is held dear in every Seattleite's heart (including mine), but it?s been used a little too much over the course of its history.

I like the concept, but I'm not sure where the 'Mariners' nickname is referenced anywhere but the wordmark. The Space Needle really doesn't say 'mariners' to me.

You've got a decent star here. I think you just need to work on meshing the elements a little better. On the primary, the wordmark seems like and afterthought, just kind of slapped on the front and left alone. Work with the colors and outlines to try to make them look like they actually belong together. Similarly, on the wordmarks and cap logos, they space needle's just kind of thrown in there, not really working with any of the other elements. In the "Mariners" script, it's working a little bit, but if you'd give the space needle a green outline, it'd seem to "fit" better with the M. You might want to reduce the number of outlines on your wordmarks as well. On the uniforms, they look a little muddy, especially on the home/road sets. The blue alt works much better.

Great work here. I love the logos! The unis are great too, though I'm not completely sold on the green. The only thing that bugs me is the Seattle in the primary logo, who it isn't spaced out, leaving negative room in the circle. It's not bad, I just prefer when the letters wrap around. Great job on everything!

Pretty solid, it's a nice change for you to use inkscape. The primary logo is decent, but honestly the event logo you linked too is executed much better because it includes the two stadiums and the needle is worked in better instead of being in-your-face white, it really looks like more of an actual view you would see in seattle. The cap logos are good ideas but I'm not sure that the interaction between the two letters and the space needle is really doing it for me, it looks a little awkward in both accounts. I can't really think of anything else to change, I like the colors but maybe lighten up the lighter blue to more of a cowboys gray-blue (but with more blue). I like the electric green. Finally I will say that I don't really love this template. the jersey and pants are very strange looking, it's just not doing your design justice. I would recommend scottysprings template.

EDIT: actually disregard what I said about color changes. That's just not a good idea at all. Maybe just lighten the blue slightly for contrast.

one thing I think you should change is the colors on your primary. just a swap of green and grey with the space needle and the mountain. mountains generally aren't lime green so I would make that grey and the needle green to make it stand out more because it's your center piece. it would also make the space needle stand out more in your scripts.

Sorry, I gotta have some kind of nautical imagery on a Mariners concept. It's just too unique and cool of a nickname to not illustrate somehow. I like the idea of unifying the colors, but (again, for a nautical theme) I think a seafoam green is more appropriate. I also think your primary logo is too busy, and the white Space Needle doesn't look right in any of its uses. Lastly, regarding your tertiary; I've never liked initials that stand for the nickname.

like Milo said, the concept doesnt really relate to the Mariners name. i think the compass was a great idea and what really screamed MARINE at you. i suggest putting a sailors hat or a ship in the primary and definetly cut down on the happenings. the primary logo is way to busy. but still its a great concept!
