St. Louis Rams in throwbacks today

If those uniforms were released today without any historical context, they'd be ripped to shreds by this community, including some of the people currently praising them. I'm not sure that this point is even debatable. The reasons Capn mentioned are only but a handful of the things that make these uniforms dated even for their time. I can understand the opinion that the old colors worked better than the current ones (I don't share that opinion, but I accept it's validity), but I just don't see how the current design isn't superior (keeping in mind today's templates) in every single way to this set.

Their current set is absolutely is better in every single way. Capn was arguing my point that the Rams throwbacks, with all their issues, still look better than Minnesota's modernizer/updater wet dream. As far as throwbacks go this Rams set is middle of the pack at best. They aren't bad but even as an old school fool I just don't see what all the excitement is about. I like throwbacks when they are a clear improvement on the current set. These Rams uniforms do not achieve that. As I have said before, to me, the only important thing with a uniform is whether or not it looks good. Minnesota fails miserably in that department. That's what I was pointing out when Capn decided to take me to school.

I don't think anybody has really claimed these are better than what they've got. But I think these are truly successful throwbacks. It was a good and loved look when they had it. They're throwing back to celebrate a special team. And there's no strong talk about bringing those back or whatever. It's how a throwback should be done, IMO.

And I don't really get the point of he picture, ad. I'd assume you're questioning the statement, but not sure. I realize how absurd it seems to lose that bad and think you played better, but 2 fumbles and an interception within the 10 yard line were the problems. Score on those plays and who knows. As Sod put it, the Rams were better between the 10s. The Rams didn't deserve to win, I'd never say that. I just think they overall outplayed the Vikings. But hey, good teams win games win they get outplayed, and bad teams lose even when they outplay another team.

And historically awfully teams get blown out even when they outplay another team... apparently.

I actually think we outplayed the Vikings

OK, I don't get it. Is that supposed to be a lamb? As in The Rams were more like the Lambs? If it is then maybe someone should point out that the animal in question is actually a dog. So now that we've settled that, is the dog questioning STL's statement? Or are you finally showing some sense and using the all white dog as an endorsement of The Rams going back to this look... :D

STL's a big homer. This is not news.

The Vikings look fine. Why are lots of "stripes" cool (and for the most part, I agree), but "piping" is bad and "for piping's sake"?

And if Matt Holliday hadn't tried to catch a short fly ball with his cup...

And if Wayne Gretzky had played with the Blues for the remainder of his career...

And if Juice Williams learned how to consistently run and pass, or either of those things...

All these stories and more can be found in the forthcoming collection of St. Louis sports fan fiction, tentatively titled "And If My Aunt Had Balls...", currently available for pre-order on Amazon.

Now that I'm done entertaining myself, here's what's wrong with the Vikings' unis: The slightly rounded block numbers, the way the piping connects at the back, the rear neck logo, and the logo cutout at the top of the pants stripe. They were close to having a nice, modern design, but effed up in the details.

Love 'em. Make the helmet blue match the jersey blue and you're set. My biggest gripe with the new ones was that they "updated" the shoulder stripe so that it no longer looks like a Ram horn, which was the whole point of the shoulder stripe to begin with.

Oddly enough, the horns on the shoulder are pretty much the one thing about this look I don't like. It just doesn't make sense to me. Rams have two horns... you know, ON THEIR HEADS. Not two on the head and another two on the shoulders... creepy.

But that Royal blue and athletic gold... BEAUTIFUL!! We used to have the Rams, the Chargers, the Golden State Warriors, Seattle Mariners, the Brewers... all in this fabulous color scheme. Now they've all gone to the drab navy. Sucks.

Weird. Didn't really even think I said anything too out there this time. I was just both impressed and frustrated by how evenly the Rams seemed to stack up to the Vikings on any given play. The announcers made the same observations, but dats coo.

If you go back to those Deacon Jones unis, you'll see the Rams originally had shoulder stripes that had nothing to do with the Ram horns. I've always thought the current set was a pretty nice mix of their history with a more modern flare.

While it was nice to see the ram horns on the shoulders, there's nothing I really miss about these uniforms. I really dont get how 99.9% of you want to see the Rams' throwbacks come back full-time. It would be a massive downgrade if they ever did.

I don't think people are reading each others post real clearly. I think most people have not stated a desire to see these return. But maybe I'm the one misreading, that's happened before.

The rams got it right when they updated their update. The uniforms they wore against the Pats in the Super Bowl with the gold side stripes were not good. Removing that one element made them great. I love their number font and the shoulder stripes actually make it from the front of the armpit to the back. They don't need another set of pants besides the gold ones, that's where they're losing this current uniform. With their gold pants the Rams have one of the best, one of the most identifying looks in the league. These throwbacks are not better.
