Twins road uni error on first day

Orlando Hudson did not have a No. 1 on the front of his uniform tonight vs. the Angels, at least in the first inning that just ended (on ESPN2).

I first noticed it during his at bat, but thought maybe a fold was covering it, but then two more shots from the field in the bottom half confirmed it.

Not a good start for the new set, but overall I think it looks nice. I miss the old pinstripes, but from the back these unis look the same. And one thing about the front of the jersey -- that navy lettering outlined in red is unique in today's MLB, which is strange considering how many use that color combo. I always thought it would look nice, and I believe it does.

Why do they have to be exciting? That's not the purpose of a baseball uniform, really. It's to crisply and effectively identify the team and the player. Superfluous, 'exciting' details are not needed to perform that task.

I also wish the numbers were navy outlined in red, or even solid red. I've never been a big fan of the 'opposite' look.

Personally, I think they look awesome. They're about a million times better than last years with the awful nameplate.

Didn't catch much of the game, but I did like what I saw. Overall, I like that the Twins had a great opportunity (opening of Target Field) to introduce some updates/changes to the uniforms.

Glad the Angels won, though.

They look bad and I dislike them. The caps are horrible, but the jerseys are alright. Combined? No.

I wasn't a fan of the cap, either. Just looked off, especially with the increase in navy on the jersey.

Ha... the nameplate. I kept looking at the back of the pitcher's jersey and thinking that it still looked like the Twins except for the name, but I knew the lettering was identical. Forgot about the nameplate.

And infrared, good call on the White Sox comparison.

I really like these jerseys, and I think the cap problem stems from the script "Minnesota" where you can't use the same block "M" as in years past. There's something very crisp about the whole design; surly they are the envy of Major League Baseball right now.

I noticed the Hudson error too. Surprised they missed it.

Seeing them on the field, they did not look as bad as the players, but I'm not feelin' 'em. I'm not fond of the wordmark. Everyone wants the numbers to be blue on red, well I'd rather leave 'em and make the wordmark match the red on blue.

I'll have to give it some time before I decide for sure.

That White Sox uniform posted above was pretty underrated. I wish the White Sox script (or a variation on it) would make a return, maybe on jackets or something. It doesn't really match the stuff they have now, but they used it with leftovers from the 1983 logo package, and those didn't match either.

I like the Twins new home look, but the roads are bad. First off, I think in most cases the script should be the same colors as the numbers. The Twins have:

Numbers on front and back: red with navy outline

Script on front: navy with red outline

Name on back: Solid navy

What the heck?! They should all be the same, but even adding the red outline to the names would make it much better. I don't like the road script, and the new road hat screams Twindians. I don't remember, but I assume they didn't get batting helmets to match the road hats either, and that is a no-no. Hopefully they ditch the hat over time.

I couldn't disagree more. Adding an outline to the names would make them way too busy. Single-color names work best. Besides, they look good on the Braves:

My biggest problem is the cap.

I mean honestly, are they the Twins or the Indians?? I don't know who's idea it was to have a hat that looked nearly identical to another team in thier division, but it was a pretty stupid idea. I'm really hoping they expirement with the all navy cap on the roads here soon, cause I think it would look worlds better. Besides, for the identity as an entirety, the red billed hat looks completely out of place.

I was disappointed by the new road look when they were first introduced. But after seeing them on the field I realize how much of an upgrade they are over the pinstripe grays. I'll miss the "M" hat. I know they say they'll still use it as an alternative, but I can't see how that would look good with the "Minnesota" script.

I love that '87-'90 look, and prefer that version of the "Chicago" road script to the current one. The only gripe is I have is with the front pants number, an inexplicable leftover from the softball uni days. If that were bumped up to the usual spot on the jersey, it would be a pretty classic look. And Okkonen's drawings fail to show the fantastic stirrups which were part of that uniform:

I believe they were triple-striped.

Also, this discussion has made me realize that this marks the 20th full season of the Sox wearing their current uniforms. This from a team that overhauled its look about 3 times per decade during its first 90 years. Wow.

That's almost bound to happen when you have the same colors as another team within the division...to say nothing of seemingly half the major leagues. Part of me almost wished the Twins had revamped their colors for this season, if they really wanted to set their identity apart...something akin to the colors the Wild use (which would have also given them the distinction of being the only red/green team in the bigs). But then I'm not a Twins fan, nor do I know how well that would fly in Minnesota...if it would at all.

That has to be the first time I've ever been mistaken for a "modernize" & "update" guy. :D

I should have been more clear. I think the look is fine but it's not anything special. Boring was the wrong choice of words. I usually like "boring" because it means there aren't a bunch of "superfluous, 'exciting' details."

It wouldn't. At least it wouldn't in my small corner of Twins Territory I occupy out here in Oregon (though I'm still and will always be a Minnesotan).
