I bet TNT will get him and we'll have him for the playoffs.

Fire Joe Morgan was a pretty good blog, but near the end they became awfully prone to overplaying their hand, trying to fisk the living hell out of every single Bill Plaschke piece, irrespective of quality. It got tiresome.

VORP is a useless stat because I have no interest in how actual players compare to hypothetical abstractions of players, but there's little sense in denouncing sabermetrics. Statistical analysis, as long as it's twinned with quality scouting and psychological profiling, is worth embracing. Why deny yourself any means of gathering information?

If TBS is smart they will let them stay out, I got sick of Morgan and Miller every week Joe Morgan going on and on and on about how great the Red Machine was. It got insufferable.

Am I the only person who listens to music while I watch sports? Turn off the sound, turn on some tunes. It's very relaxing. I suggest you try it. Many a nap have begun that way.

It's what I did several times during sunday night baseball.

I'm happy that Jon Miller is gone too!!!! He could not pronounce half the names of the players.

From what I read Jon Miller was staying. Morgan was the better of the two. If anybody needed to be gone it was Miller.

Miller might stay, but not on TV. Per epper's linked article:

Jon Miller and Joe Morgan won’t return as announcers for ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball,” ending a 21-year association.

The Walt Disney Co. sports network declined to renew Morgan’s contract and gave Miller the option of staying on as ESPN’s radio voice for its Sunday night Major League Baseball games and the playoffs.

...

Miller will probably be replaced as the play-by-play announcer by Dan Schulman, while former major league pitcher Orel Hershiser would fill Morgan’s role providing color commentary, the New York Times said. Former New York Mets manager Bobby Valentine could make it a three-man booth if he doesn’t land another managerial job, the paper said.

good - I like Miller on the radio.

I do as well. I'm happy this happened though, it means that Miller can now announce more Giants games on the radio with Dave Flemming, which is a good thing. NO WAY he ever cracks the regular TV lineup with Kruk and Kuip there, though.

I guess I'm in the minority, because I didn't think Joe Morgan was that bad. I remember first hearing him and Jon Miller on ESPN SNB back in '93 when I first started following baseball. I don't watch baseball very much but I thought he was a decent color analyst. Better than many of the other ones out there.

Joe Morgan was tame compared to the crap that Fox Sports has on it's national broadcasts which as a whole suck. I can't think of one decent Fox national baseball announcer/color guy that is good. While I think it was time for Joe Morgan to go, I still think as bad as he is, he's head and shoulder above ALL the Fox baseball crew. If you don't believe me, listen to Jose Mota or Eric Karros do a game with their respective high school play by play guys. Complete and utter failure!

Josh Lewin does national broadcasts for Fox, and he's not a bad announcer at all. He can be corny at times and tries too hard to be hip, but when it's a tight game he's one of the best in the game at conveying excitement.

Lewin is an excellent announcer (baseball & football). Now that he's not coming back as the Rangers p-b-p guy, I hope ESPN or FOX puts him in a prominent position.
