Pretty solid reasoning behind your teams. I went to an MSU Vs. UCLA basketball game at the Breslin Center a few years back, and saw Magic Johnson in the concourse. It was an awesome game, and an awesome arena.

Padres, Chargers - I've lived in San Diego for most of my life.

Arizona Wildcats - I'm less than two weeks from being an Arizona alum.

Pretty basic reasoning. I like that you're faithful to your birthplace, your hometown, and your college.

1) New York Yankees: My grandfather grew up in the Bronx, when he was a teen he would attend numerous Yankee games with his friends. His trips to Yankee Stadium included watching Joe DiMmagio, Bill Dickey, Phil Rizzuto and Tommy Henrich to name a few in the early '40's. Naturally when my father was born, my grandfather exposed him to Yankee baseball right out the gate. My dad and grandfather attended nearly 30-40 games a season at Yankee Stadium and Shea (while they renovated the stadium in the 70's) from the time my father was 5 years old in 1956 all the way until my family moved down to Florida in 1983. My dad would tell me stories of watching Yogi, Mantle, Maris, Ford, Jackson and his all-time favorite player Thurmon Munson playing for the Yanks. The best was when my father and grandfather would get together and debate on the best Yankee of all-time. So, of course I grew up a Yankee fan. As a kid I was a huge fan of Mattingly and as I grew older (through a lot of losing seasons) the Yanks finally came around in the mid '90's and I got to experience what "Yankee Baseball" was about. Since about 1997, my father/grandfather and I would make a yealry trip to the Bronx to catch a Yankee game or two, unfortunately it hasn't been the same since my grandfather passed away in 2005. My son was born last year and I will definetely be sharing my love for the Yankees with him when he gets older.

2) Orlando Magic: My family moved to Orlando in 1983, when I was a year old. In 1989 the Orlando Magic started up, I instantly became a fan. My first Magic game was the teams first ever regular season win, against the New York Knicks, a game in which I fell asleep at (I was 7years old). I have been a Magic season ticket holder since 2008 and will continue to be one for as long as I can.

It's really nice to see a true Yankees fan, like yourself, unlike the millions of people who wear Yankees gear and claim to be a fan. I've actually really wanted to go to a Yankees game. That's weird about me, because I strongly consider the Yankees as an enemy. My dad has been a Yankees fan his whole life, and Derek Jeter is from my hometown, so I think it'd be nice to see a game there. But I'm pretty sure finding tickets for games can be pretty difficult.

I'd like to see the Magic do well in the playoffs. They're a team that I have a lot of respect for. Hopefully their time comes soon, perhaps next year!

Like Brave-Bird, I'm all Atlanta. Ever since my dad took me to my first baseball game (Dale Murphy homered) I became the biggest fan of baseball and my Braves. I grew up in south Georgia and back then the Braves were not only the team that represented Georgia but they represented the entire south. I am so proud to be a fan of the Braves. The Falcons and Hawks are my teams by default. I haven't had much to cheer about with them but I still love them

Brave-Bird and I only differ when it comes to college teams. Florida State University is much closer to my hometown and I just kind of gravitated to them when I was a kid. While everyone else argued about UGA and Tech, I was the odd one because I was a Florida State fan. Dunn was my favorite player from FSU and I was thrilled when he went to the Falcons. I have lived in California now for 9 years but I am still all about Atlanta (And FSU) and I always will be.

1.) Jay, you ain't never lied! I'm not a big baseball guy, but growing up back home, pretty much the only team our local news ever covered aside from high school sports was baseball...and there was really only one team they talked about: the Braves. Everything else was a footnote on a scoreboard...but they made sure they got those video highlights of the Braves in there whenever and however they could. I suppose if I had developed more of an interest in the game as a young'n--or had I not been so annoyed run off by the constant, damn near rampant baseball talk/press/highlights/coverage--I'd probably be about as big a Braves fan as Jay is here.

2.) I share a similar sentiment. I haven't lived even halfway permanently in Florida since 2003. Spent four years in the 'Burgh and now I live in Indianapolis (you can guess what happened in the interim)...but I'll never ever lose my Florida roots. And every single one of y'all know that.

Only 2 teams I fervantly support.

1: New Orleans Hornets: Basketball is my major passion. I started playing in 1991, and needed to pick a team to follow. Back then in the UK the only team merch you could get was Bulls, Hornets, maybe a little bit of Lakers & Celtics stuff. I loved the Hornets' colours and logo, plus none of my friends supported them.

Manchester City: I'm from just outside of Manchester, lived there until I was 5. My grandparents also lived a couple of streets from the old Maine Road ground, and my grandfather would take me to City matches, although I wasn't into football too much. The main reason, though, is that my dad is a huge United fan (he used to take me to every home game when we lived up there, and I always hated it). When I got into my teens I decided to support City, mainly to piss off my dad, and my love grew from there.

Dallas Stars - After moving to Dallas in 1991 (living in boston, new york, and alabama before texas), the Stars moved to Dallas in 1993. My family, having lived in various northern locales both before my birth, and shortly after my birth, were familiar with hockey but not really huge fans. Apparently my sister and father watched a lot of Bruins games, and while my father was younger he was a casual red wings fan.... When the Stars moved here, it seemed like everyone in my family took notice, and I started watching games with my big sister the very first year. She was the diehard and I was the casual-fan kid... but as time went on, I became obsessed (probably around the end of the first lockout-shortened season) and she sorta faded away around 2001.

Tennessee Titans - Also after moving to Dallas, I decided I'd become a Houston Oilers fan, if for no other reason than to be contrary to my grandparents. I remember going to Wal-Mart and seeing tons and tons of Dallas Cowboys themed M&M candy. They had probably 3 bins of navy and grey m&m's with the cowboys logo on the package, and then one bin (pretty much full as if no one had even touched it) with brightly colored sky blue and red m&m's with the oil derrick on the package. My grandparents went over and picked up the Cowboys m&m's and put some in the buggy. I grabbed the Oilers ones and said I wanted those. They politely told me to put them back because we're in Dallas, and we're all cowboys fans, and no one likes the houston oilers. just to be a jerk, i told them that i insisted on the oilers ones because whether they like it or not, i'm an oilers fan. i just liked the colors and wanted to be different. i didn't really pay much attention to the nfl at all from then on, but whenever i'd play madden or tecmo super bowl, i always picked houston because of that day. when they moved to tennessee, my casual fandom continued on with them, and once they made it to the super bowl, i was hooked and never looked back.

Boston Red Sox - I was born in Salem, MA and had my baby room covered in Red Sox and Celtics logos. I never really followed baseball all that closely until about 2000-2001, but i always always always cheered for boston when i saw the scores on sportscenter, and had a blind hatred of the yankees despite having no idea what i was talking about.

University of Alabama - My family, both sides, originates from the state of Alabama, and half of them love Auburn while the other half loves the Tide. I'm not a huge college sports fan, but I support Alabama every chance I get because it was bred into me by my mother. (the same mother that took photos of me as a youth wearing a red sox jacket with a yankees hat, because i was born near boston and living in new york... clueless)

In basketball, i cheer for the mavericks cause they're my home team... but don't really care cause i don't like basketball...

in soccer, i like blackburn rovers because when i decided to "pick a team" it was 2002 and brad friedel had just convinced me that he was superman for the world cup team. he's since moved on, and i've since lost track of the EPL, but they're still "my team" if i had to name one.

My teams:

MLB (NL): San Diego Padres - My current local team. Grew up an A's fan in the SF Bay Area but moved to San Diego in 09. Had never been into NL ball (in part due to my loathing of the Giants) but found the mid-09 Padres a fun group to watch, the small ball was interesting to me and really enjoyed taking in games at PETCO Park, the people were just so damn friendly. Found myself falling for the team and whole organization in short order and justified it despite already having an MLB team because they are in the NL and almost never come up against the A's.

MLB (AL): Oakland A's - My Dad was a Red Sox fans his whole life, even after he moved the family west, until the Buckner boot finally drove him over the edge. He started taking me to games in 1987 and the A's became the first sports team I follow. It was of course a great time for the team with the 3 WS trips, bash brothers, etc... and my old man and I went to games for years together until I hit college. It's gotten harder over the years, particularly with the never ending stadium saga, never ending ribbing from Giants homers about their "Bonds", ballpark, and now world series and the questionable leadership of the A's current owners (all of which may have opened the door for me to start liking the Pads as well).

MLS: San Jose Earthquakes - Local team growing up. My brother and his peewee teams were always getting free tickets so I often went with them. Then they won the two MLS cups which made it even better to watch them. Got really die hard though during the "hiatus" when the original incarnation was stolen away by Houston during the hunt to bring the team back going to city council meetings, etc... And they play at the my alma mater today which is even more reason to love them.

NFL: New England Patriots - Growing up in the Bay Area there was no Raiders, and the Niners were an San Francisco team which meant I automatically loathed them. So I went with the next best option, my entire extended family's team. They're all from Boston so it made sense to me to root for the team of my grandmothers.

NBA: Sacramento Kings - Never really cared about the NBA until I was in college. A friend of mine was a die hard from Sac and she got me into the team during the 2003 Playoffs. And their continuing hard luck makes me like them even more (if you can't tell yet I have a thing for hard luck teams).

NHL: San Jose Sharks - Local team growing up.

NCAA Basketball: Santa Clara Broncos - My alma mater, nuff said.

NCAA Football: California Golden Bears Football - My wife's parent's alma mater. My school didn't have their own football team so I adopted Cal.

English Football: AFC Wimbledon - Compelling story that was a close mirror to the garbage the Quakes and their fans went through. Began watching with interest as they've had a meteoric rise through the English football system to reclaim their rightful place in the league.

CFL: BC Lions - Closest CFL team to the cities I've lived in. And they play in one of my favorite cities on Earth. I admittedly don't know as much about them as I do some of my other teams but still watch when I can.

AFL: Essendon Bombers - Random pick of a team for sure. Steve Irwin's team, so I learned about them during the news around his funeral. Hard to follow them from afar but I do try.

Mexican football (hopefully soon the FMF): Club Tijuana - a semi-local team here in SD who I've seen in person and enjoyed. Particularly when they beat the LA Fallacy this spring.

Nippon Professional Baseball: Yomiuri Giants - Only Japanese team I've ever seen play plus my old man brought me back cap when I was a little kid from a trip. Like their now 80's throwback environment in that big inflatable dome.

Damn I root for alot of teams in alot of sports. I'd never actually written it out before.

Just out of curiosity, what makes you dislike the San Francisco teams so much? The reason I ask is because the rivalries in the Bay Area have always been really polarizing. It's either you love one team and the other is your second favorite, or you love one and absolutely hate the other. What causes that?

Yea that's a good question. I know so many people that like the Giants and the A's. Or like that Giants but are happy to see the A's do well. I have never really heard of a Giants fan saying "Screw the A's" or an A's fan shouting "Screw the Giants"

Then you haven't been listening to a lot of A's fans lately. Part of it stems from my extreme dislike of San Francisco as a city. Part of it stems from my extreme dislike of the Giants organization and their former pumping up of Barry Bonds and his steroid addled quest to sully long time records and blocking the A's move into San Jose (thus trying to force the A's out of the Bay Area). And the majority of it stems from their fans. Most Giants fans I've known from grade school on through to adulthood are arrogant and annoying. They're like Red Sox fans after 2004 or Yankees fans. Only until this year they had no reason to be so arrogant (and now that they do have a reason they're even worse). Maybe I've just come across the worst the Giants fanbase has to offer over the years, but they've so turned me off to them that I loathe San Francisco teams to the core.

And I'm not alone. Visit any A's message board and well over 50% of A's fans can't stand the Giants, but in the interest of "human interest" the press, particularly the Bay Area press, likes to pretend that the Bay Area is different than the other 3 two team markets. Admittedly I hear alot of Giants fans who say they bear no ill will toward the A's, but going the other way, many A's fans can't stand the Giants. I'm not a Raiders fan (hell I still blame them for destroying the Oakland Coliseum), but it seems to be the same from many Raiders fans I talk to as well, they hate the Niners too.

As for never having met an A's fan who says, "Screw the Giants!" now you can say you have.

After falling in love with the World Cup thanks to some of my friends with deep European roots, I started watching EPL soccer because I knew it was the highest level, Once I found out Man United was a real team, I latched onto them. I had no idea of their history or their reputation in the EPL, but I became a fan simply because they were the only soccer team I knew because of their stupid representation in that movie.

New England Patriots - Everyone asks how am I a Patriots fan having being raised in Colorado...started following them when they drafted Drew Bledsoe out of Washington State (I was huge Bledsoe fan while he was in college). Watched the last game of 1993 season, when Bledsoe threw winning TD pass against Miami and I was hooked. Went to game at old Foxboro Stadium in 1994 and they beat the Chargers, which was second win of seven-game streak to make the playoffs. Going to a game with my dad in Foxboro was awesome and something I'll never forget. Also went to 1997 MNF game when Patriots played Broncos at old Mile High. My buddy and I were only two Patriots fans in the stadium it seemed like.

Other favorite teams:

Atlanta Braves: Grew up watching Braves on TBS, watched them go from worst-to-first in 1991, was hooked. Fell out of liking baseball a few years. Last year, I was at Fort Benning for 30 days, and watched Braves games at night almost exclusively. It seemed like every game I watched, they pulled out a win at the end. The last day I was at Benning, Brooks Conrad hit a pinch-hit grand slam to cap a 7 run ralley in the bottom of the ninth against the Reds. This past March, took stadium tour of Turner Field, which is a great stadium. Firmly hooked on Braves.

Miami Heat: Liked it when they drafted Dwyane Wade in 2003. Family took a cruise leaving out of Miami, and on the way out of the port, the AAA is clearly visible. I thought it was the coolest thing the arena is right on the water. Heat had a 17-27 record during the 2003-04 season, but finally started playing great basketball and ended up with a winning record (43-39, I think) and a 4 seed in the playoffs. Rafer Alson's three point shot against Dallas was probably the biggest win for any team that year during the regular season. Flash forward to December 2005: Attended an economics conference in downtown Denver at a nice hotel. Conference was in one of the ballrooms, but in the ballroom next to us was the Miami Heat having a practice before the game. Saw everyone, Wade, Shaq, UD40, et al during breaks. The next day Van Gundy stepped down, and Riley took the reins. The Heat's rally to win 4 straight games against the Mavs is still one of the biggest accomplishments ever, I think.

I follow Denver teams. Was a huge Elway fan when I was a kid in the 80s, loved the orange and royal blue. Rockies games are great, glad they're getting really good and keeping talent. Avs are fun too - actually submitted "Colorado Avalanche" and a logo to the Denver Post for a name-the-team contest the day after the announcement that Quebec was moving. Never got any credit for the name, and my logo wasn't close, but it was still cool to think I might have had something to do with it.

I won't talk about all my teams but I will mention the backstory of why I'm a Clippers fan. I grew up with the teams with Charles Smith, Danny Manning, Ken Norman, Ron Harper, and Gary Grant. They didn't have all the star players and the celebrity-filled fanbase, but those teams worked hard. Just look at the win shares for those years - they were spread pretty evenly throughout the starting five. They were the ultimate underdogs, and I've always been the type of person to root for the underdog. Those teams would always come up short, but they were a pleasure to watch, and I've been a Clippers fan ever since.

This does seem a pretty good topic to make a first post. In no certain order:

Manchester United- Around the time the Glazers bought the club, there was a story about it in my local paper. Really got interested when C. Ronaldo was signed, since I'm full-blooded Portuguese, but I'm still a supporter of whats on the front, not the back, so my allegiance didn't follow.

Vancouver Canucks- My realtives from Vancouver came over in 1997, around the time I got interested in sports. Followed the lead set by my cousins. Funny thing is that if my other Canadian relatives came instead, I would have been a Leafs supporter.

Seattle Sounders- Growing distant from the Sonics. I latched onto the Sounders. My dislike for the U of Oregon led to Portland, and after seeing the history that the Sounders, Timbers, and Whitecaps had, I was hooked.

St. Louis Rams- Certified bandwagoner here. Rooted for them beating Tennessee in XXXIV since they beat Jacksonville (1st football match I've saw was the 1997 AFC Divisional game between JAX and Denver). Stayed on the wagon, and feel really good for the Ram's near future.

St. Louis Cardinals- The 1998 home run chase. I started my ill-fated one year baseball career at that time and adored McGuire. Disappointed with what happened later but my intense Cubs hatred was too far established.

Omaha Nighthawks- Got interested when some fans made the push to call the team the Zombies.

Colorado Mammoth- First NLL match I saw was the 2007 season opener between Chicago and New York. Found out that the closest teams near me at that time were Calgary, Edmonton, or Colorado. My Canucks fandom couldn't let me support the Riggers or Rush.

Idaho Steelheads- Local team. Probably have the closest connection of all these teams. I remember having to tweak my AM dial during their first game in 1997, and their two Kelly Cups in 2004 and 2007.

BC Lions- See Canucks, replace Leafs with Argos.

Sporting Clube de Portugal- Family's had a rivalry with half picking Sporting and other half Benfica. Had a uncle came who was a Benfica supporter so naturally I picked the exact opposite.

Boise State Broncos- Around the time they made the switch to D-1.Not as much of a favorite in the last few years thanks to the overcrowded bandwagon, especially around my area.

I inherited my Mets and Giants fan-ness from my dad. He liked the NY baseball and football Giants when he was a kid. The Giants moved to San Francisco when he was 8 or so and he became a Mets fan when they were born.

I used to be a Ranger fan like my dad but I stopped following hockey for a couple of years. But now that I've started to watch again, I'm leaning towards the Islanders (partly because of my hatred of James Dolan, partly because I've been at the Coliseum a lot the last couple of years, and partly because I felt bad for them when they were drawing 7,000 fans per game).

I like the Pitt Panthers because I went there, but college sports aren't too important to me.

I can buy that, since you actually live in Idaho.

What I can't buy, however, is someone from southern California (presumably) claiming to become a school's fan because they won a low-rung bowl game over a lower-tier school. Someone who's never seen the school or likely ever set foot in the state of Idaho.

3. Arizona State - I don't follow the Sun Devils very closely, but for the past couple of years, ASU has been the college that I wish to attend. It would be very ideal if I could walk-on to the baseball team, but since they're top in the nation every year, the chances of that happening is laughable. I want to go into sports journalism, and/or sports broadcasting.

That is awesome we just went to Phoenix during spring break for spring training and we fell in love with the area/campus and now my gf and i both want to go to ASU. My second choice for a major would be in sports journalism right behind Biology (ecology specifically). Baseball would also be the sport i would be interested in walking on too but that probably won't happen.

As for the other teams in my sig, Nuggets are my favorite team because i live in CO so yeah, no other reason. I always resisted the Rockies for some reason until midway through the 07 season when me and my dad got to go on the field and meet Todd Helton, the end of that season with the world series helped cement my love of the rox. I have been a chiefs fan for longer than i can even remember but i have just always naturally hated the Broncos and loved the Chiefs. The Sharks have been my favorite hockey team since after the lockout when i started to get interested in hockey a little bit, I just liked them at first because a shark was my favorite animal but now i am a dedicated sharks fan.

I tend to root for the teams in Colorado, because I have family in Denver, and my godfather would always get me Rockies, Broncos or Nuggets gear for my birthday and christmas. That's pretty sweet that you got to go onto the field and meet Helton. Recently I've been wanting to get out to Denver to see the stadium.

Ya u should definitely come to Denver it's a great city with great teams. (with the exception of the donkeys). Coors is an awesome stadium you will enjoy it if you get the chance.

It's funny how something like getting to meet a player can change your whole perception of a team.

Good luck with the asu dream,the biggest issue for me will probably be tuition (out of state) but I hope it all works out. I'm shocked at how much asu support there is on the boards, it reaffirms my want to go there.
