FYI the NBA has now officially approved the Nets' move from New Jersey to Brooklyn, and also officially approved the name change to "Brooklyn Nets."

Wonder how long they'll wait to approve the Kings move to Anaheim now that the Maloofs have killed the Sacramento arena deal and any hope the city had of keeping the team.

The Maloofs have pulled off the impossible: I hate them more then I hate Kobe.

If I were them I'd stay away from Arco Arena the rest of the time the team is still in Sac. Not a threat, just a realistic observation based on the level of anger I'm reading on Kings message boards. They have :censored:ed Sac in a way I don't think any other owners in sports could match. I mean Sac did EVERYTHING right, provided all the funds they were asked to, politicians put their careers on the line for these bozos, and they sabotaged their own project (for at least the 3rd time if you're really counting). Even Irsay and Bud Adams weren't that big of douchebags...

Well, at least if the Kings do move the Maloofs won't have that excuse where they can say, hey, at least we tried. If they move at this point, there is absolutely zero good press that can come to the Maloofs. Hopefully the NBA nixes their shot at moving and they're forced to sell. I barely watch pro basketball as it is, but if the Kings end up moving due to the stupidity and selfishness of the Maloofs, I'm washing my hands of the sport for good.

As of now the reasoning the NBA is giving is that it doesn't feel Sacramento is a large enough market to support an NBA team no matter what type of arena deal they have in place, which considering that they denied the Maloffs the right to move to Anaheim last year for not making a better effort to keep the team in Sacramento smells alot like a load of BS.

I think the team is all but gone from Sacramento. May or may not be to Anaheim. In all likelyhood it will, but either this year or next will be the last season of Sacramento Kings basketball I would say with near certainty.

Well 2012-13 will be the last season. They're 2 months beyond the move submission deadline which means the team will likely have to play at least one lame duck season. Hopefully my fellow Kings fans join me in boycotting Arco Arena. With no ticket revenues the Maloofs might just go bankrupt before next March if the rumors of their pending destitution are to be believed.

I know the deadline has passed and they may uphold it but I would not put it past the NBA to give the Kings special clearance to move this year rather then spend a lame duck season in Sacramento. If they average 10,000 a game next year playing in Sacramento I would say it would be alot.

That being said though what the financial situation of the Maloffs is I have no clue other then its not as good as it was a few years ago. We know most of their money was tied into real estate investments in Las Vegas which was one of the worst investments you could have made in this economy. They've had to sell The Palms which was their biggest holding. How close they are to bankrupcy is unkown but they could be doing better.

Which works out if they are going to Anaheim, because their big renovation project that will make the Pond completely up to NBA Specs will be done in January of 2013. The only other thing the city would need to build would be practice facilities, which probably wouldn't start until the team declared a move.

Problems you have though are that Anaheim won't be NBA ready until January, Stern has said next season will be played in Sac, the deadline of course has long past, and they'd still need to get the owners together to vote on a move which isn't likely for a while (and will require a fair amount of lobbying on the Maloofs part since the NBA isn't keen on having 3 LA based teams (yes Anaheim you're LA whether you like it or not)), not to mention the lack of lead time at this point for the particulars of a move. If it happens it'll be next March 1 that they get final approval. But it seems a move is inevitable at this point. Sacramento's leaders are done with the fools running the team, and while it pains me to see them move, I don't blame Sac. I'd tell the Maloofs to go castrate themselves with spoons too.

Never. The same forces that killed the Anaheim move last year haven't changed. Look for the league to force the Maloofs out as soon as New Orleans is handed off to someone else.

The Maloofs have made seemingly NO attempts to upgrade the team for ages it seems like. It's because of them I'm forced to root against somebody (the Lakers) every playoff season now instead of rooting for the Kings. I remember I wasn't happy every year with the Niners not making it, but the NBA is where over half the teams make it every year, yet for 6 straight years, the Kings haven't even been close to the playoffs. Just a sickening feeling with your team that your owners don't care about fielding a competent product every freakin' year.

And it won't get three teams. Like Rams said, there are still some very important people with strong feelings on major market saturation.

Hopefully Buss has the power to force a high relocation fee on the Maloofs in that situation.

It's the NY/LA/Chicago bloc + Golden State that really doesn't want any more doubling or tripling up of existing markets. There's a lot of lobbying power among those owners. Anaheim's not gonna happen.

The league ownership also likes the ability to decide who gets to be in their club. The Maloofs' name may be on the stationary, but Samueli would be running the show in all actuality in the event of an Anaheim move.

EDIT-You know, the fact that the NBA finalized the flipping of the Hornets today to Benson as well possibly indicates they are indeed prepping to take the Kings over.

Problem is they can't take the Kings over until the Maloofs can no longer financially run the team. And the Maloofs have made no overtures to that end yet. Despite the fact they're acting poor in the arena negotiations they've not yet declared bankruptcy or done any thing else that would allow the NBA to take over.

LA does not need three teams. Even they moved to Anaheim, would they still keep the name the Kings? It'd be weird considering there is a hockey team with the same nickname. The Kings need to stay in Sacramento or move to Seattle and become the Supersonics, moving to Anaheim is the wrong thing to do.

Well, if that was actually meant to be an answerable question, I think common sense dictates that they would change their name if they moved to Anaheim.
