There's a report in today's NY Post that because of the expiring CBA issues, there won't be European games to open the 2012-13 season.

This means the Rangers will have to open their season with a California road trip and work their way back east after that while Phase II of the MSG Renovations are undertaken. They did Western Canada this season, and so they wouldn't be "at" that division next season.

Does anybody know what the standings would look like if there were no shootouts or loser points?

I made a spreadsheet with that purpose in mind. It's not that hard to do, really. Anything that isn't a win for a team is a loss, so I add those columns together.

Yeah I imagine the Hornets being owner-less and doing even worse than the Kings attendance wise would make them the first target (particularly since the Kings problems, namely the new arena, are being worked on and could be solved in the next few months to say nothing of new ownership already waiting in the wings in Sac).

Plus from a historical perspective it would make less of a mess to fold the short undistinguished history of the Hornets franchise into the reborn Sonics (who by rule will maintain their pre-OKC history), than to fold the 68 year history of the Sacramento/KC/Omaha/Cincy/Rochester franchise into the Sonics own lengthy history.

I believe the question being asked was: What would standings look like if there were still ties? I did a sheet of my own for this:

Calculations, based on ESPN standings after 2/5:

W = regulation or overtime wins (ROW)

L = losses (L) plus overtime losses (OTL) minus shootout losses (SOL)

T = SOL + shootout wins (SOW)

Ties are the dumbest. Ten-minute overtime before a shootout and maybe we can have fewer. Anything but ties.

And the second five minutes of OT are 3 on 3.

I, of course, disagree with this in the fullest. Either you play overtime out to a goal or you allow ties. Enough of this shootout garbage.

10 minutes would be much better than 5, but I don't understand why they just can't have a full 20, with a shootout after that if you must. At most, it would just be another hour. I realize that teams have to be somewhere the next day, but just schedule the flight or whatnot an extra hour later just in case. It won't be much of a problem.

Anything to have less skill competitions.

Aww, crap. I was trying to merge the two Seattle threads, and something apparently went very wrong.

Edit: Alright, I think I've put the two threads back in their corners. Let me know if I missed anything. Sorry about that.
