No way a team can gain back their confidence in 24 hours after getting beat like that tonight? Can they, I hope not, but most likely the Flames will lose tomorrow night.

If the Hawks blow it in Calgary tomorrow, this becomes the kind of February road trip we haven't seen since Theo Fleury went off the rails in a Columbus strip club.

Yeah, but we take it to a whole new level. We've lost at Rexall by a combined margin of 17-6. That is pathetic.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

Red Wings have earned the love

By Iain MacIntyre, Vancouver Sun columnist February 1, 2012

Nobody hates the Detroit Red Wings and it?s making me sick.

It?s unbelievable the free pass this organization gets compared to nearly all the other top teams in the National Hockey League.

The Boston Bruins are the Broad Street Bullies with better teeth and an anarchist in goal.

Philadelphia Flyers fans booed Sidney Crosby and Ryan Miller during a hockey-fights-cancer ad and the team still employs Chris Pronger.

The Rangers have that New York smugness and so does John Tortorella.

The Chicago Blackhawks? Cocky. San Jose Sharks? Chokers.

Los Angeles Kings? Jolly rancher Darryl Sutter behind the bench and Sly Stallone behind the glass.

Nashville Predators? Totally no right to be as good as they are.

And let?s not get restarted about how everyone hates the Vancouver Canucks more than they hate global warming or the growing inequity between rich and poor or even one of the Kardashians.

St. Louis Blues? coach Ken Hitchcock explained the dislike for the Canucks ? or any other top team ? as envy, saying: ?If Vancouver wants to be liked, start losing. Everybody will love you.?

But everybody loves the Red Wings and Detroit has won more than anyone in the last two decades. They haven?t missed the playoffs since 1990, haven?t finished with fewer than 102 points in 12 years, haven?t lost in the first round of the playoffs since 2006 and have four Stanley Cups since 1997.

Well Ian Macintyre is kinda of an idiot but he does have a point. In Vancouver little amnimosity is shown towards the Red Wings. I'ce run into quite a few local Wings fans and the rest of the population respect the team and home them

In high regards. Honestly, if it wasn't for these boards I would have no idea the Red Wings were so evil.

If it makes anyone feel any better, they are absolutely HATED in San Jose.

It's hard to hate the Detroit Red Wings. They build their teams with incredibly good or incredibly lucky drafting and scouting, players want to play there. You can't be jealous of their fans because they're the poorest SOBs out there, and the only real d-bag they have on their team is Todd Bertuzzi, and he's become an afterthought by now, anyways.

All their star players are likeable: Datsyuk is a Russian, but completely dispels the 'lazy Russian' stereotype, Zetterberg is a two-way forward and a Lady Byng candidate at the same time. Nik Lidstrom is one of the best defencemen of all time, and they have a lot of players who are generally clean but hard-working, skilled but not enough of a standout to really get noticed enough to be hated.

Another reason I hate the OTL point is that is make it so much harder to calculate standings and scenarios. It's easier to rank them in winning % as opposed to points because it would take out all the stupid "OK, if OTT loses all their games in hand but NJ wins theirs and the Jets lose theirs and FLA loses at least one of theirs, the Leafs are in seventh, provided they in at least one of theirs".

Yeah, I'm beginning to think that fully pro hockey leagues should just revert to wins or losses, straight up. The CHL and minor hockey can stick with rewarding points if it makes teams feel better, but once you get to the pros, it's about winning. Don't reward them for something they didn't accomplish.

And don't let a division winner automatically grab one of the top 3 seeds if you're doing a conference-based bracket for the playoffs.

*cough-southeast-cough*. Or at least, if they're going to stick with that idiotic rule, give home ice to the team with more wins/points.

Back when I was a Leafs fan in 2002, I was appalled that Carolina had home ice in the Conference Final. 9 fewer points and 8 fewer wins.

They clearly didn't deserve to host more games. But they essentially got what I thought was an unfair edge that they had not earned for being the champion of their lousy division.

So now would not be a good time to mention I still fully support the 3-2-1-0 system? It fixes the issue that exists now of regulation games being 2 points while OT/SO games are 3.

If you're referring to 3 point games (W = 3; L = 0; OTW = 2; OTL =1), I agree that that's a much better system than they have now, but I think that plain ol' W-L would be best.
