My stab at the Fleur de Pelican

I started sketching up a Fleur de Lis styled Pelican soon after the announced name change. Firefly beat me to the punch, but has said to go ahead and post away anyways.

We both made some of the same stylistic choices, but are very different as well. I did not include a basketball, and chose to represent the feet very differently as well. I'm not too keen on the red, blue, yellow color combo that has been rumored, so I stuck with colors that really say NOLA to me.

I got some inspiration from Tulane's Pelican logo as well.

This is an amazing start. The only thing that I don't like(and really bugs me) is the face and neck area. It's kinda hard to make out the face, and the neck looks very thin and weak.

I love it. The color scheme is awesome! My only suggestion would be to try and incorporate the deep curve of a pelican's lower beak. It might convey that its a pellican a little bit better. I dont know how you'd go about doing it though.... overall great work!

I wasn't going to take a stab at unis and all that jazz (oh no, jazz mention) but we'll see where this goes.

After turning up the brightness on my screen I can now see how blue it really is, I may or may not change that to be a bit more purple. Thoughts?

I think this is a great start. I'm completely serious when saying this...the beak, in the abstraction of it all, is a little too close to the groin area for comfort. I could be the only one that felt a little awkward with the logo, but I did.

I'll have an updated logo very soon, until then: A jersey.

I haven't ever made a basketball jersey concept before, so we'll see how this is received. I've used parts of the NOLA All-Star logo as the piping on the jersey and recolored the current NOLA logo for the waist. I wanted to go for simplicity but also have a touch of something new.

The number has a small, monochrome fleur de pelican in it, a la soccer numbers.

This is a great effort. You've incorporated the logo name with an image that everyone relates to in New Orleans and you picked a terrific color scheme. I also like where you are going with the uniform. Very Mardi Gras/New Orleans like.

This is really nice and clever. The only thing I think it could lose is the thick green outline because it loses the fleur de lis shape as a whole.

damn, this is really nice man. the uniform is fantastic too. the Pelican is almost spot on but theres some rendering issues in the face/head area. you have the wings, bill, feet, and tail all filled with positive space/shapes, but the most important part (head/face) is negative space and it dosent read quite as it should. i would fill in that area with white and make the eye negative (blue). this will especially work best at small sizes, and help complete the fluer de li shape

I love the concept. I just think it needs to look more like a pelican. It kind of just blends into the background too much. Maybe make the beak a bit more Pelican-ish.

Navy, Kelly green, and gold are really good colors. I would love it if they went this route.

I've got a few updates here:

I tried to fix the beak some, and also added the NOLA above. This is just another option, and the fleur de bird on its own is still the main mark.

The wings are the biggest change here. I didn't really like what I had before, and I'm still unsure about this update.
