I intentionally wanted to give myself some time to cool down after last night's Illinois-Miami game.

What a game it was. The Illini have proven all year they're capable of playing with anyone (just not consistently enough to be great all year). That team is who showed up last night. Really proud of that performance.

If our best 3-pt shooter doesn't go 1/10 from behind the arc in the last game of his career, this probably ends differently. That's a shame, but that's basketball.

Now here's the unfortunate part. Maybe if he gets to take an 11th shot that's the one that falls. And there is no doubt the Illini deserved an extra possession. The ball plainly went off Miami's hand. It was reasonably clear live and extremely clear on replay. Despite my valiant efforts, refs will never be perfect, but that's really a time in the game you can't get it wrong. Not all three refs. Not without even huddling. And this isn't the refs fault, but for all the delays and extra timeouts caused by looking for inadvertent elbows and adding tenths of a second back on the clock, it's unfortunate there's not a replay system set up for reviewing out of bounds calls in the final minute or two.

I can't sit here and say the Illini lost the game because of that call. But I have no choice but to wonder if they could have won if the game were called right. What they lost was a chance, and that sucks.

And I'll briefly address a refrain that I can't stand. "One call never loses a game." "The Players should have made more plays." "If he doesn't airball the shot, then it doesn't matter."

By the nature of sports, even at it's most pure, players performance won't be perfect. It in fact CAN'T be perfect in a dualing sport, because for one player or team to be perfect means the opponent is not. Missed shots are very much a part of the game. Again, not just in a realistic sense, but in the most pure sense.

Missed calls are a part of the game only in that we haven't yet (and likely never will for basketball) found a system to perfectly enforce the rules. So it's become reality. But it's not, in the pure nature of the sport, a part of the game. You expect the rules to be enforced fairly and consistently. And that's a fair expectation. It can't always happen because right now the best we can do is have humans make judgement calls (though we've screwed the pooch not allowing more reasonable replay), I do understand that. But that doesn't mean teams don't get screwed. What it really means is that teams do get screwed, they just have to live with it.

So live with it I will, but I'll also probably complain about it some while the pain is still fresh.

Great effort by my Illini. It was a huge rebound season for this program. Next year might be a small step back while they prepare for another leap forward (or maybe they'll just keep on pushing), but the program is in great shape. It's really disappointing things couldn't have turned out better for them last night, but the fan base is nothing but proud.

Your word to post ratio has to be the highest in the entire CCSLC.

Didn't you just write like a ten page research paper that went over your baseball predictions about a week ago?

At this point, I think many (if not all) of us should just forget about the brackets and just enjoy the ride here. Why? Well, we have in the Sweet 16... a 12 seed (Oregon, who was vastly underseeded), a 13 seed (La Salle, who has ridden the what-I-like-to-call 'First Four Boost' to this point) and the true Cinderella of this ball, 15 seed FGCU.

Fanatic's posts are all like that.

And thanks for reminding me of that. I still haven't crafted the National League side of that story yet. Though, for your purposes, it'll probably involve a lot of Giants slobbering.

I can live with that :)

I'm actually excited to read it (Giants slobbering or not).

Here's the play, by the way.

There's obviously an Illini hand close enough that it's not totally outrageous, without the benefit of the replay, to wonder if it went off Illinois. But I do have trouble understanding how that'd be your conclusion, even live. It's not really a 50/50 ball. It's more like 90/10. But for some reason that 10% is what jumped in the officials head, and none of the others saw it or felt compelled to overturn it.

I think it goes from 90/10 to 99.99/00.01 on replay, but unfortunately that's not a tool they had at their disposal.

I've accepted their fate at this point, but I can't say I'm over it, yet.

Keep on chomping, douchebag. And then see who's still in the field after tonight.

Here's something from ESPN on Henderson's character. I don't like the guy either.

3. Marshall Henderson -- not coach Andy Kennedy -- is running the show at Ole Miss. Seriously, do the Rebels have any rules for their shooting guard? Last week, Henderson called other SEC coaches "losers." He trash-talks opposing fans; he flipped off the crowd at the Sprint Center after Ole Miss' loss to La Salle on Sunday; and he has to have an "escort" sit with him during interviews to make sure he doesn't mouth off. A lot of good that's doing. Kennedy, though, hardly seems bothered. On Friday, just hours after Ole Miss defeated Wisconsin, Henderson was photographed at a sports bar across the street from the arena. The pictures spread like wildfire on Twitter. There were 31 other teams that won round-of-64 games. How many of their players were photographed in similar situations? When asked about Henderson's postgame activities, Kennedy noted that Henderson was 22 years old and said he didn't make the player "recite his ABCs backwards" when he returned to the hotel, also noting that Henderson was attentive in a 10 p.m. meeting. The comment made Kennedy look foolish. Other coaches and administrators in Kansas City were laughing at him behind his back. Henderson (who averaged 20.1 points per game) might have saved Kennedy's job, but he's damaging his reputation.

I'm enough of a hypocrite to find Marshall Henderson's jersey-popping madness in Auburn extremely amusing. It is, and I crack up every time I see it.

But, even with my previously-noted distaste for the Gator Chomp duly noted (I find it extremely tacky and never do it myself), I do get bothered to see some arrogant schmuck taunting the opposing fan base with it. Same thing when Wes Byrum did it after a game winning field goal in the Swamp back in 2007.

Seriously, :censored: off Wes and Marshall.

See I don't really understand why people have such a problem with the guy he plays with tons of emotion he is the type of guy that feeds off of the hate. I have to respect him for how much emotion he plays with and he's young and in the moment can't fault him for that. And the fact of the matter is he actually hurts his team a lot more than he helps them the guy shoots around 30% and the only thing he really positively contributes is a little bit of hustle. Murphy Holloway is far and away the best player on Ole Miss.

The old guy in the front row looks like he was ready to give him the hands!!!!!
