Carolina, after tonight, is sitting at 4-9 4-6-3 after 13 games, and still sit in 2nd place in the division, as far as things stand if results hold tonight.Thank God its early, because that's pathetic. Pittsburgh is the only team with a winning record right now.EDIT - Washington will be on 12 points with a win, so that's not entirely accurate. Not that 3rd place is much better. Downie fights earlier in the game at 5-0 and gets the instigator. Fine. And then... At 7-0, the Flyers are clearly frustrated and then Simmonds and Wilson start fighting because of Simmonds' two hits. Sure. Fine. And I guess this sparks Ray Emery to burst like a bat out of hell down the ice and assault Holtby, who clearly did not want a damn thing to do with that. Then everything else slowly smolders out of that once the rest of the Capitals realize that their goalie is continually being lunchbox punched in the back of the head. I guess Emery was pissed it was 7-0 and his mask got knocked off after that last goal? Still, that's not any justification to do what he did. oddball Posted November 2, 2013 Share Posted November 2, 2013 As a hockey fan I do believe there's a place in hockey for fighting. I say that because I'm disgusted by the Flyers actions. There was no need to start a fight at all. They were clearly out played and should act as mature adults, not like little children. If the NHL wants to send a message there needs to be at least 20 game suspensions starting with Steve Downie. And Ray Emery needs at least a 50 game suspension. There is just so much that is wrong with that. It's also completely not surprising, since Ray Emery has long been one of the biggest hot heads in the NHL.On the most irrelevant of notes, the original Steve Downie/Matt Carle trade has annulled itself now within the space of five years.
