Do something fun like "Williams Way" or "Bobby Doerr Boulevard." Not "Jersey Street." I want no connection to TNak. On 4/10/2017 at 3:05 PM, Rollins Man said: what the hell is ccslc? For a special surprise, smelt it down into the metal for a Homestead Grays memorial at Nationals Park. Very surprised they didn't try to honor someone else in connection with the club - Williams, Yaz, Doerr, perhaps even Ortiz. Maybe the notion of replacing one person's name with another was seen as unpalatable. But it's surprising, in any event.
ozzyman314
Ortiz just had a Bridge & Street named after him last year, so he’s off that list. Ted Williams would also be a good choice, but he already has a tunnel named after him. Red Sox: 8 Celtics: 17 Bruins: 6 Patriots: 5 Phantom Merch Collector. BBTV
Is his head still being used as a soccer ball? If so, maybe they could rescue it and turn it into a home run celebrarion, like the Mets Apple (replace the Apple with his head) "The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed." Meh, Jim Rice wasn't that great, he just got into the Hall of Fame to shut up the Boston sportswriters who wanted another Red Sock in Cooperstown and to make it a black one to demonstrate that Bostonians aren't racist after all. You'd run out of fingers counting legendary, transcendent Red Sox before you got to Jim Rice. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

You'd run out of fingers counting legendary, transcendent Red Sox before you got to Jim Rice. I was joking. Rice was a compiler who probably shouldn’t be in Cooperstown or have a street named after him. I’m just hoping it leads the Twins to tear down their statue of Calvin Griffith. At least Yawkey didn’t move the Red Sox because he didn’t want black people attending his games (urban planners and white Bostonians took care of that for him). The_Admiral
Thinking about it more, the endgame here is probably not to refer to Yawkey Way as Jersey Street, but to officially change that stretch back with the city and start marketing it as something like "the Fenway FanFest Mall Presented By General Electric." ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

The whole instance just smells of the "I need to prove I'm not a racist so don't call me a racist if you ever think I'm a racist you racist" attitude that's slowly coming over from Cambridge. And the Boston media, for the most part, disliked Jim Rice a lot. On 4/10/2017 at 3:05 PM, Rollins Man said: what the hell is ccslc?

"You know, I would have voted for Obama for a third term." Current Red Sox ownership has been in place for 15 years and no one was "haunted" enough by Tom Yawkey's well-known racism to do anything about it until they saw an opportunity for a new revenue stream or the jeopardy of an existing revenue stream. (But like I said above, my money's firmly on the former on this one.) Though the mental picture of John Henry being haunted by Yawkey is really, really funny. Imagine some ethereal vision of a ruddy-cheeked captain of industry appearing in the mist, going "ooooOOOOOooo.....Joooooooohnnnn........JOOOHHHNNNNNN.......the Irish were the REAAALLL slaaaaaaaves..." ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

You would have enjoyed the time I heard "I want to angry at [the Tsarnaevs] for what they did at the Boston Marathon, but I'm not an Islamaphobe" during one of my grad classes. And this is 50% doing the right thing and 50% revenue. Boston sports is notorious for two things; squeezing every penny out of their fanbase and triggering Lights Out.
