Gothamite
I don't think it's at all surprising that some of the smaller cities have embraced soccer teams - it's a much less expensive sport to produce. As for City, they posted this video a couple days ago, and it's made rather a splash on Twitter:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzRtJg0y_ScThere's some grumbling that it features Man City players, but this far out they don't really have a choice. I think it's an excellent start. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
pats2000
Would like to see the MLS follow suit with the Premier League. There needs to be a second-tier league where so many advance and so many get demoted each season. this should never happen at all. the markets, support, and stadiums under the mls is just way too small. imagine a team like fc edmonton which barely gets 3000 goes to the mls, then what happens
Gothamite
Well, the Premier League has certain minimum stadium sizes required. But if a team like Edmonton can afford to build a team that gets to (and stays in) the top flight, more power to them. Simple economics will probably prevent any team below a certain level of support from doing that, though. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. MJWalker45
The problem with relegation/promotion is that it forces overspending. MLS wants to avoid this which is why they have a limit on "designated players". Teams like San Antonio have stadiums that fit the league they play in. Even though it's built with the intent to be built up later, if it were a yo-yo team it'd be too expensive to maintain that stadium if it seats 18,000 but they only get 3,000 because they are in the third tier. And American & Canadian soccer don't have to be built the same as the more established leagues in the world.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions) King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

MJWalker45
The only folks in the American soccer pyramid who would buy into promotion/relegation is the New York Cosmos because they want to be in the Concacaf Champions League. The only way they can play now is winning the Open Cup.
Gothamite
Yeah, this is an interesting matchup. Kinda hoped the Timbers would make it in, but oh well. The talk out here is whether a win or loss would make Kreis more likely to jump ship for NYCFC. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. We were one missed RSL penalty always from being able to see a couple of goalie-on-goalie penalty kicks.Knowing how scrappy RSL have always been, and of Rimando's amazing track record of defending penalty kicks in the past, I think the crowd was fearful if the PK round would be a long one, which it was. Between the middle of the 4th and 8th PK round, the momentum had shifted nightmarishly to Real, to seize the cup the same way they capitalized on the Galaxy four years ago in Seattle. But eventually, Sporting won the slugfest, to the relief of their exhausted supporters, and the cup in the process.
