  1. Next up is another take on the Giants: GIANTS This one is inspired by the Yomiuri Giants of the Nippon Professional Baseball League and is meant to pay tribute to San Francisco's large Japanese population. "SOKO" is a term the earliest Japanese immigrants to San Francisco in the late 19th century used to refer to the city. I feel this sort of accomplishes what the Giants' actual City Connect unis did and that it's clearly derivative of their everyday look but is also just different enough (white instead of off-white, headspoon piping, white cap).
  2. Totally fair! I was basing the color balance off those '70s unis, but here are the home and road set with yellow scripts and numbers: PADRES HOME: PADRES ROAD: I suspect this will be a bit more to your liking.
  3. Depends on the team. I would never want road grays to go away entirely, but I absolutely feel teams like the Royals, Brewers and Blue Jays should adopt powder blue away sets full-time, and I’d love if more teams followed the Padres’ lead and experimented with different tints on their road unis. I also 100% believe the City Connect program is Nike’s way of testing the waters to see how fans respond to their teams wearing monochrome uniforms regularly.
  4. Thank you! Thanks! I wouldn't mind seeing that independent league jersey you're describing. Let's stay in California for the next pair of teams: OAKLAND A's x 2000 GIANTS I put the A's in the off-white unis the Giants have worn since 2000, as well as the arched "ATHLETICS" typeface the A's used in Kansas City before moving west. The sleeve roundel is a modified version of the A's primary logo. GIANTS x 1969 A's I had fun with this one! The Giants are based on the sleeveless A's unis from 1969-71, using a Gothic style letter "G" on the jersey and cap. I kept their contemporary numbers to tie the design somewhat to their current look. C&C appreciated!
  5. Hi everyone, I think most people were satisfied with the Padres' 2020 redesign and their long-awaited return to brown and gold. However, after seeing these recent photos of Manny Machado in a Tony Gwynn throwback jersey, I wanted to experiment with what the Padres' current set would look like in their '70s brown/gold/orange color scheme. I also dropped the pinstripes and added a gold front paneled cap for the home and alt: PADRES HOME: PADRES ROAD: PADRES HOME/ROAD ALT: Not necessarily arguing that this is better than what they wear right now, just different. C&C appreciated!
  6. Rays apparently dropping their gray road jersey next year. Wonder if this means if we’ll get Columbia blue pants to go with the jersey as their new road look?
  7. I'm working on the Yankees and Boston. Still looking for some feedback on the Astros and Rangers, but in the meantime, here's the next pair of teams: ANGELS x DODGERS The Angels are sort of a reverse Dodgers--a red dominant design with blue TV numbers. The script comes from the 1950s Pacific Coast League Angels., while the interlocking "CA" cap logo was worn by the California Angels from 1965-70. DODGERS x PCL ANGELS The Angels have never really had a uniform with "distinguishing features," so I looked further back in history to the Los Angeles Angels of the Pacific Coast League, incorporating various uniform elements from the 1930s-40s and recreating the Dodgers' "LA" logo in the 3-D style. C&C appreciated as always!
  8. So I've come around on the Diamondbacks' City Connect. This season's switch to sand colored pants to match the jerseys has really gone a long way toward making the set feel like a complete look rather than just a sand colored alternate. One aspect I'm still not big on however is the sand and black "A" cap logo which just feels kind of uninspired. To address this, I've replaced the "A" with the "S" from the "Serpientes" script, possibly inspired by this David Peralta bobblehead. I've prepared two versions, one in the colors of the actual City Connect cap and one with a black crown and Sedona red bill: DIAMONDBACKS VERSION 1 DIAMONDBACKS VERSION 2 Not sure which version I prefer. What do you guys think?
  9. Up next we move to the Lone Star State with the Rangers and Astros! RANGERS x 1975 ASTROS Naturally, I had to do something with Astros' iconic 1975 tequila sunrise design for the Rangers. I used a combination of the various shades of blue and red the Rangers have worn over the years, while a large sheriff's star replaces the five pointed star on the front of the jersey. I used a font called "Surf Bird" for the numbers to match the "TEXAS" from the 1972-80 primary logo. ASTROS x 1976 RANGERS I had a tough time coming up with a look for the Astros that would evoke the Rangers until I thought to put them in the powder blue pullovers that Texas wore from 1976-82. The script and cap logo are new creations, using a script style font called Gendis as suggested by @Carolingian Steamroller. C&C appreciated!
  10. Here's the Yankees with inverted stripes: You are correct that both teams used McAuliffe style numbers during this team period. For the Giants, I decided to drop the front numbers altogether, since the '44 Dodgers didn't use them. I also corrected the coloring of the belt loops:
  11. Crazy idea but how about adding racing stripes to the Guardians home and road primaries? It would give their unis a little more personality and allow you to do something more interesting with the home and away alts. I'd like to see a red and/or navy alt in there somewhere.
  12. Not sure but that’s how it should look.
  13. Thanks! I do wish the Pirates adopted a monochrome black look. Next up is a throwback set! BROOKLYN DODGERS x 1918 NEW YORK GIANTS For the Dodgers, I looked to the pinstriped NY Giants uniforms of the early 1900s. The large "B" & "K" on the front of the jersey is of course a shorthand of "Brooklyn" similar to how a few of those early Giants unis used "N" & "Y" on the front of theirs. NEW YORK GIANTS x 1944 BROOKLYN DODGERS The Giants design is based on the Bums' 1944 mono baby blue unis complete with t-bars and white, stroke-less scripts and numbers. C&C appreciated!
  14. D-Backs with sand colored pants are a zillion times better.
  15. Thank you! Thanks! You're totally right about the accidental Philly Stars reference. Glad you pointed that out. How about this for your sleeve patch idea? Thanks again! I wanted to keep black so it give the gradient four distinct colors, just as the original Devil Rays gradient had four distinct colors--purple, medium blue, lime green and yellow. Here are the Yankees with gray: C&C appreciated! P.S. I went back and flipped the racing stripe colors on the Pirates, since I originally had a thick white stripe surrounded by two thinner gold stripes. The reverse looks much better.
  16. I agree and thanks! If the Rays don't want to re-embrace the gradient full time then I see no reason why Miami can't. Next up are Pittsburgh and Philly: PHILLIES x 1979 PIRATES: For Philly's inspiration, I chose maybe the single craziest uniform in MLB history--the "mix & match" Pirates of the late '70s, featuring a triple pinstriped jersey with solid colored pants and a pillbox style cap. The block "PHILA" hails from the Phillies' 1900 uniforms. PIRATES x 1979 PHILLIES: For the Bucs, I went with a racing striped, monochrome look based on the 1979 Phillies, specifically their one and done Saturday Night Specials. C&C appreciated as always!
  17. I wasn't a huge fan of that rebrand, either, but you're correct that I chose that look for inspiration because it provided enough colors for a gradient. Here's a variation on my Marlins design with a black jersey instead of white: MARLINS x 1998 DEVIL RAYS: I think the gradient pops a bit better against a black background. I also switched to standard block numbers (with a gradient insert) as those are what both the Marlins and Devil Rays used in the late '90s.
  18. Revisiting this thread with a Cubs redesign: CUBS HOME: CUBS ROAD: CUBS ALT: I always found it interesting that the Cubs' 1962-71 and 1972-78 alternate logos used blue and gold when gold appeared nowhere else on their uniforms, so I decided to try out a full Cubs set that replaces red with gold. I used the ornate 1932-33 "Cubs" and "Chicago" scripts since these were two seasons when the Cubs used blue and gold. C&C appreciated!
  19. Not a tweak per se, but inspired by these fashion caps, I wanted to try a full White Sox set in black, sky blue and red, using the White Sox City Connect numbers and "Chi" logo as a sleeve patch: WHITE SOX HOME: WHITE SOX ROAD: WHITE SOX HOME/ROAD ALT: I think the alt is my favorite of the three. What do you guys think?
  20. For the Braves I was thinking something more like this: Tri-color piping on the soutache, sleeves and pants and double outlines on the numbers. I like the Reds but the added outlines on the home and road jersey numbers makes the jerseys unnecessarily messy looking.
  21. Thanks! Next up we have the Florida teams: RAYS x 1993 MARLINS The Rays are based on the original Marlins' design, using pinstripes and sky blue as the team's primary color, similar to how the Marlins started off as a teal-dominant team before they gradually diluted their brand by introducing more and more black. I also used a modified version of the Devil Rays' Turn Ahead the Clock script which simply read "RAYS." MARLINS x 1998 DEVIL RAYS My Marlins design applies the Devil Rays' gradient to Florida's original 1993-2011 script, using Miami's 2012-18 colors of black-blue-red-yellow. Here's a better look at the Marlins script and cap logo below: C&C appreciated as always!
  22. Nice work with the Chicago teams. I do feel the home and road alt for the Cubs should be switched, though. For the Sox, I'd use the road gray version of the '83 set if you're designating that as the road alt. I'd also think about using the correct block style numbers for the '83 style alt and the home throwback. Keep up the great work! I'm enjoying this series.
