  1. I have a genuine question: is there anyone who actually likes uniforms like these? because I'm thinking about, y'know, the types of jerseys I see people wearing out in public, and I don't think I've seen a single one of these minimalist disasterclasses. and I live in Charleston, so while it's naturally a bit Charlotte and Atlanta-heavy, you get a mix of just about every team's merch you can think of. and I can't recall seeing one "sleek" "modern" "trendy" jersey around the city. expansion-era Raptors and T-Mac Magic? all the time. statement/city jerseys that, even if they don't necessarily always succeed, actually try to do something interesting? oh yeah. nobody's going to be rocking the new Cavs jerseys. I firmly believe the only people who actually like how these uniforms look are the same people who think Corporate Memphis is an attractive art style.
  2. logically, probably Texas considering they haven't hosted one in almost 30 years on top of having the newest ballpark in the league. I really like the prospective markets idea, though; a game in Charlotte, Nashville, Vegas, or Montreal would be sweet. you'd probably only be able to go as far down as AAA ballparks, though; I don't think they could get away with having the ASG in "Portland" at the Hillsboro Hops' place.
  3. good, that means at the end of the season, the Mets will still have the home run derby winner on their roster :^)
  4. "sir, a second home run has hit the North Tower." look, it's either that or I post the Alonso pic. you know the one.
  5. weirdly, this kinda works, at least on the white jersey. gives it a bit of vague western flair. that said, this is still a Certified 2002-2010 Buffalo Bills Moment.
  6. might get some heat for this one, but the pre-wild card era of baseball where you had to win the division or else you missed the playoffs... even if the other division winner had a significantly worse record than you. two(?) words: 1993 Giants.
  7. I think in terms of southern expansion, the only two real options are Nashville and Charlotte (maybe New Orleans in a past life), and Charlotte is much closer to the Atlanta Sphere of Influence than Nashville is. not factoring in a potential A's move, the play to get to 32 teams would probably be Montreal and Nashville.
  8. from my experience as a Mets fan, I think there's more of a mutual respect than anything. most Twitter interactions between Mets and Dodgers fans I've seen this season have been along the lines of "see you in the NLCS bro" "hell yeah bro can't wait."
  9. huh. kinda feeling like getting one of these again. New York Mets - World Series ('69, '86), NL pennants ('73, '00, '15), NL East titles ('88, '06) New York Islanders - Stanley Cups ('80-'83), Prince of Wales Trophy ('84), division titles ('78, '79, '88) New York Jets - Super Bowl III, division titles ('69, '98, '02) New York Knicks - Larry O'Brien Trophies ('70, '73), Eastern Conference titles ('94, '99) Syracuse Orange - football national title ('59), basketball national title ('03), football Big East titles ('96-'98), basketball Final Four appearances ('75, '87, '96, '13, '16), Hall of Fame Bowl ('91), Fiesta Bowl ('92), Gator Bowl ('95), Camping World Bowl ('18) Coastal Carolina Chanticleers - baseball national title ('16), football conference titles ('04-'06, '10, '12-'14, '20), Cure Bowl ('21) South Carolina Stingrays - Kelly Cups ('97, '01, '09) Charleston RiverDogs - Carolina League/Low-A East title ('21) Long Island Ducks - Atlantic League titles ('04, '12, '13, '19)
  10. I mean, sure, he's not great, but people know his name for a reason. might not be the best hitter or fielder, but he fulfills a valuable role on the Phillies as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a home run. and so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame. I don't know if I'm going to be putting on this headset again. I don't know if it's going to be for the Reds. I don't know if it's going to be for my bosses at Fox.
  11. regarding the Clippers convo, it might just be my alliteration fetish talking but "California Condors" sounds way cooler than using LA as the location. of course, that isn't really feasible with a Golden State around, but it'd be nice. also I don't know how else to put this, but the Jazz rebrand is like the crypto version of basketball uniforms.
  12. Mets went into Atlanta without DeGrom, two of their best hitters, or their starting catcher and won the series. obviously a lot more work to be done, but that's a huge statement.
  13. at some point we have to do something to stop insurance companies from naming every sports venue in the country after themselves. preferably by abolishing all insurance companies.
  14. kind of insane the Mets won on Keith Hernandez Day in almost the exact same fashion as Game 6 of the '86 World Series. doesn't change the fact that they desperately need to make some moves at the deadline, but god that was cool.
  15. the mets are starting to remind me a lot of the islanders - that is, a team that could be competing for championships if they just made a few key moves, while simultaneously seeming completely unwilling to change anything. feels like there's some comparisons to be made between showalter and lamoriello.
  16. aside from the very damaging effect this is clearly going to have on college sports, it just pisses me off on a purely aesthetic level. why does the big ten have sixteen members. why does the midwest conference have two california teams. does nothing mean anything anymore.
  17. if you're gonna complain about the other team having six men on the ice, at least make sure your team doesn't have seven first. you know, like in game 2 of the ECF last year.
  18. ah yes, the Big 26 those red NIU jerseys look sweet. as does everything Akron-related.
  19. this is a fundamental issue with basketball itself. small rosters + single players having significant impact on how a team plays = relatively low parity compared to other leagues. hey, it could be worse. could be a european football league.
  20. this all feels like a very similar arc to the Islanders' uniform history, though that might just be because I'm an Isles fan. still, these all look great! the '13-'16 black alt is a sleeper pick for my favorite of the bunch.
  21. speaking of the lightning getting every lucky break in the world and the canadian teams being in a cup drought, we should have a gentleman's agreement to acknowledge calgary as the 2004 champions.
