Should the Nordiques come back in expansion, they should reclaim the old Nords history (1972-95), and let the Avalanche keep theirs from 1995-present.Las Vegas VipersSeattle TotemsA second franchise in Toronto will never be more popular than the Leafs. Does Toronto even have that many hockey fans who don't like the Leafs?

guest23 1,499 Posted September 9, 2014 Outside of Canadian infill didn't the last round of expansion to the sunbelt/suburban sprawl markets tell us that they are not good nhl markets? Is this just a cash grab for expansion fees like mls where they'll just try to figure out how to make these franchises viable at a later time?
darkpiranha 589 Posted September 9, 2014 Another reason why the Nordiques is a lock is because English speakers already know and use this French team name. Almost every other suggestion would have to have both an Anglicized and Francocized version of the name. That would be a huge headache both for the team and for fans. One name that's the same for both languages is the only way to go.

It would make for a great identity for a pro sports franchise.Las Vegas VipersLas Vegas SidewindersLas Vegas RattlersLas Vegas Venom

One name that's the same for both languages is the only way to go. That was the case with the Expos, which worked in both languages, but "Nordiques" is a French name with no English version. We don't call them the Nordics or the Northerners. (Though if you want to get pedantic, the terminal S is silent in French but tends to be pronounced by English broadcasters). And that's fine, the name should be French.

That being said, their primary logo is in desperate need of a modernization. Keep the basic idea and shape the same, just refine the elements into something a little more contemporary. The puck and stick are embarrassingly plain and out of proportion.
dbadefense1990 369 Posted September 10, 2014 Las Vegas Runnin' Rebels?**yes, I know about the UNLV team name; would that really stop Bettman from wanting the name for the pro, hockey team?

Sabrejeff 9 Posted September 11, 2014 As long as they're no abnormal/uncountable plurals or demonyms, I'd be fine with just about anything. But definitely no, for example, Seattle Space or Las Vegas Nevadans.

ColeJ 1,268 Posted September 11, 2014 there's already two NHL teams that have silver stars as the focus of their logo (one of them is even named 'stars')... naming a team "silver stars" is just overkill.
