At this rate, maybe the Royals and Giants will end up clinching 24 hours apart and we won't have to worry abour waiting too long.

I believe the dates for the World Series are already set. So the Giants can clinch tomorrow and we'd still have to wait nearly a week for Game 1....

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but congrats to the Royals. They were the only team left in the playoffs I legitimately liked. Now let's see them beat the boring old NL!

Yep.

The World Series, no matter how soon the NLCS ends, is set to start this upcoming Tuesday, and will follow a Tue-Wed-Fri-Sat-Sun-Tue-Wed rotation. This differs from years past, where it'd begin on a Wednesday, and you'd have the Thursday and Monday games compete directly with the NFL. This year's schedule avoids those days.

I never understood why a team that's so big on building from within pulled a guy out of retirement to manage the major-league team with no coaching experience anywhere instead of promoting a base coach or a minor-league manager. The Bulls did that with Vinny Del Negro and they were a joke, the Cardinals did it with Matheny and everyone was like "well, catchers."

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Sorry that some general good fortune of the Cardinals in years past isn't numbing me to the frustration of the moment. I must be a terrible person.

Giants good fortune aside, I would do anything to get a new manager. He has killed his club yet again.

You can have Fredi "No, We Won't Use Our Closer For Two Innings In An Elimination Game" Gonzalez.

Be happy with what you have.

Not before trading for Don "I'm Scared of Our Starters Pitching Beyond the 7th" Mattingly.

Agreed; Cardinals fans should be grateful for having such a powerful, mighty team in the 1st place.

Welp, the Giants are one win away from playing the Royals in the World Series.

That sounds really strange. I like it, though.

LOL. No. Matheny is a BRUTAL manager, and I refuse to be happy with him just because his GM gave him a great roster.

And yes, Gonzalez is bad too. But if he were in charge of the Cardinals, they'd still (all else being equal) make it to this point. The roster gets the Cardinals here. The skipper in charge stops them from bringing home the hardware.

I want him out of that dugout so freaking bad.

I know everyone is saying the Giants have done nothing and are one win away from another World Series, and while they might have been "gifts" from the Cardinals, the Giants created those "gifts" by putting the ball in play and forcing the young Cardinals defense to make plays. Inexperience cost the Cardinals, and the Giants took advantage.

I'm :angered: at the Cardinals for not figuring out how to play defense, this includes Manager and coaches.

I'm also :angered: at the home plate umpires in these playoffs. No, the Cardinals didn't get screwed - on border line pitches with two strikes SWING THE F***ING BAT (they teach you this in Little League!!) Holliday... He's also not the only culprit to stare at strike three tonight.

Rant time:

It's that these umpires, in ever series of the playoffs have inconsistent strike zones and as a baseball fan it irks me that a pitch in the other batters box is called a strike. I don't mind extending the zone a little bit outside or a little bit inside, but at some point there has to be common sense. The last instance of an awful strike zone was yesterday's Royals-Orioles game and Joe West and his horrible inconsistency. Yes, it's easy to be a couch umpire, but I'm usually pretty good. You know, maybe I should become an umpire. Wait, could I be that neutral? Doubt it. I'm a Cardinals fan and I'm starting to want to punch Joe Buck in the face.

Rant over.

We could see both Wild Card game winners in the World Series. NLCS isn't over yet, but if the Cardinals youth doesn't figure it out tomorrow, Panda and MadBum are headed to KC for some Baseball and BBQ.

Edit: Also, it just donned on me that Joe West could be the Crew Chief for the World Series crew due to seniority. :o

If any of you are in rural Missouri, please do not leave before putting no less than 4 homesteads to the torch. It is the only way. I did not watch the Rams get killed on Monday night for this you shaman basterd.

Shelby Miller just got knocked around to the point that Mike Matheny was ready to pull him in the 3rd, except that he wasn't literally ready because he's never prepared for anything and waited too long to get a reliever up.

Erstwhile White Sox manager Terry Bevington once came on the field and signalled to the bullpen but no one was warming up, so he just sort of walked in circles for a while like an eloping Alzheimer's patient. I think Keith Foulke eventually came in but it certainly didn't help Bevington continue his employment.

Bevington brought the rare combination of being a terrible in-game manager, being openly hated by the players, and being openly hated by the media. He's most likely the worst manager of all time, but almost in a whimsical way. It's nearly like they took a surly Teamster cussing at the players from the bleachers and gave him the reins.

The Royals are a cool story. They sort of remind me of the 2008 Fresno State baseball team that won the college world series. That team was like the last seed in the tournament and just didn't lose even though they kept seeing teams that were technically better than them. It made no baseball sense. Now I can definitely see them getting bit like the 2007 Rockies by being too hot. This Giants-Cardinals series is going 7 games and the Royals are going to sit and wait for a long time. Let's hope they can overcome that.

I actually think the rest will be good for the Royals, since a.) they were in a close divisional race down the stretch and couldn't rest their starters, and b.) they were the wildcard and had to play an extra game.
And plus unlike the Rockies, the Royals open the World Series at home, as opposed to the Rockies who had to wait for the ALCS to end that year and had to travel to Boston.
2006 Tigers started at home after waiting- how did that work out for them?

The same happened in 2012 for my favourite baseball team that loves to choke in the playoffs. *shudders*

It's weird not having one team you really loathe play in a post-season, so this has been an intriguing match-up to watch. I can only imagine how frustrated Oakland and Detroit fans must feel watching this team rattle of wins and be like, "Seriously? How do they get all the luck?"

"And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life... You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday."
