That's weird. Was Nationals Park not available? Or do they refuse to help each other out because of the MASN dispute?

I think we have a winner.

I also think this will be the most intersting game on TV this week.

I'm curious if they'll even televise it. It would make sense, due to TV moneys and contracts and all that, but I'm curious if they took TV and fans out of the equation just how much faster the game would be. This is an incredibly unique opportunity to do this.

If for no other reason, this is a reason to put it on TV. The last thing MLB would want for PR is a 90-minute game. "See, it could be significantly faster if you just simply cut out one commerical every half-inning." Blasphemy.

Good god, this is a whole new level of crazy:

who wrote that?

A now-fired SBNation writer.

Oh, so it's like most Tampa Bay Rays games.

The O's also moved their next series to Tampa Bay, so the running joke is that they'll play 4 games in an empty stadium. This is low hanging fruit at it's lowest, but worth a giggle.

God, everyone got their digs in on the Rays and Indians before I could make the painfully obvious "usually it's their home games where people are discouraged from attending" joke.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

There's really no need for commercials or anything to lengthen the game. I'd look for the game lasting a little less than 2 hours.

Also, the Orioles-Rays game has been moved to St. Petersburg and the Orioles will serve as home team

It will be on tv, so there will probably be commercials. But the Mets and Marlins played a 1:58 game last night, so anything's possible.

I have a suggestion for shaving some time off of games - don't let relievers warm up on the mound after being brought in. That's what the bullpen is for.

You don't see guys come in off the bench in the NBA and take ten warmup shots.

Let's have a good old fashioned empty stadium bench clearing brawl.

Teams notorious for not keeping road bullpen mounds consistent with in-game mounds.

You can probably thank the MLPBA for that, I would only guess, so what can we do.

Players have clauses in their contracts prevent them from engaging in certain activities off the field so they don't get injured. Injuries happen. But their job is to throw the baseball. That is what they get paid for. Not to hit. Yes, they could've gotten injured fielding. But they didn't. They got injured doing something half the pitchers in the league don't have to do. And if I were them, I'd be pissed because AL pitchers don't have to worry about it.

So every pitcher has to accommodate Baumgarner because he takes it seriously?

There shouldn't be one place in the lineup a team can take as a sure out every night anyway.

agree, :censored: bumgarner

I don't normally take this stance, but what a bunch of absolute babies some pitchers are. Jesus, hitting is part of the game and the DH is probably the worst thing in baseball. It's one of the reasons why I'll NEVER like AL ball as much as NL ball. Having to work around a pitcher involves some strategy rather than just tossing in another hitter. And the fact that pitchers don't get at bats in the minors really kills part of the game IMO. What a stupid idea it is to not have one of the guys in the field not take his swings.

Suck it up, American League. You guys are lame.

I have to agree. I prefer NL baseball, despite being a fan of a an AL team for this reason. Baseball just feels more "natural", for lack of a better term, when there's no DH. I was a pitcher when I played baseball, and I loved hitting (partially because I was actually a fairly strong hitter, but that's neither here nor there). Like you said, it's part of the :censored:ing game, so suck it up.

Well, the need for commercials will still be there because they've already purchased commercials to air during the game.

So basically, it'll be the teams and their coaches, the umpires, the broadcasting crews, and some team/stadium personnel (your full-time employees) acting as fans. Wonder if the team will pipe in some organ music and fans cheering/booing and the like....

Maybe pitchers would be better hitters if they did hit in the minors. Maybe they'd hit, like, .160 collectively, as opposed to merely .120. But you bet your ass no team is going to want pitchers hitting in the minors. What if a fastball runs inside and breaks an ace prospect's hand? Boom, career altered, maybe even ended prematurely.

I dunno, what if a fastball breaks inside and breaks an ace non-pitching prospect's hand. What if the prospect gets drilled by a pitch and concussed, or even killed.

Just saying that the risk assessment here is exaggerating certain things.
