Las Vegas Chargers?

Unlikely as Mark Davis signed the contract. If torn up, many in the Clark County Commission would want to start over or at least get more correct numbers. I haven't finished SB1 in full, but should by Thursday.

That, or the project may be value engineered to just accommodate UNLV.

Don't read too much into it just yet. The "framework" they have isn't even the bare minimum the NFL wanted for them to claim they had a viable plan.

I'd say that Oakland is slightly further that where they were with the Coliseum City project. Alameda County still owns half, so they must be dealt with along with the Raiders.

More details on Oakland's stadium plan.

Egbert Perry is out as the private financier working with Ronnie Lott after Perry went to the city council with an unsolicited offer for the Coliseum complex. In is Fortress Investments.

58-60,000 seats

$600M from Fortress

$300M from Mark Davis

$200M from the NFL G-4 Loan

$200M from the city and possibly county

Recent little bugbear of mine: there is a not insignificant semantic distinction between "Chargers expected to exercise option for L.A. move, sources say" and "san-diego-chargers-exercise-team-option-move-los-angeles-2017"

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

True enough.  This could be a last-ditch attempt at negotiation.

Quote

The Chargers have a tenant-lease agreement with Rams owner Stan Kroenke that lowers the team's risk because they do not have to borrow money for construction of the $2.6 billion project.

The Rams and Chargers would jointly share revenue such as naming rights, suites, sponsors and advertising. The teams would be on their own to sell season tickets and personal seat licenses.

Kroenke has motivation to complete a deal with the Chargers, because he cannot begin selling personal seat licenses until reaching a decision on whether the Chargers or Raiders will relocate to Los Angeles.

However, the risk for Spanos is that the franchise would be on the hook for a $650 million relocation fee paid over 10 years, determined during the January owners meeting in Houston.

Holy :censored: .  That's almost a third of the Chargers' revenue sharing every year for a decade, gone up in smoke.  All to play in a city they have to share, in a stadium that they won't own and that they will only get some of the non-game revenue streams from.

That seems crazy.

Which is why many in San Diego even after hearing those reports from ESPN yesterday don't think there's any real threat of the Chargers leaving.

So smaller stadium than NFL wants, the $200 million is not for the stadium but infrastructure (oh and the city expects the team to surrender non-game day revenues to pay this back so it's really a loan). And you left out the $95 million the city will also want paid back by the team for the ill advised Coliseum expansion for the Raiders in the 90's. Plus no indication yet what the Fortress/Lott group will want in exchange for their $600 million contribution.

Yup. Which is why if old Deano really wanted to keep the Los Angeles market as much as he wants you to think he does, he should've pushed the button first.

Instead, we have the Los Angeles Rams, who despite mediocre on-field results have done pretty smashingly well here in just about all the other areas.

The Chargers aren't even here yet, and we've already forgotten about them.

It just seems really dumb that the Chargers could share a stadium with a team that could have similar colors to you (assuming the Rams go back to something similar to the blue and yellow look) and is more popular than you are in Los Angeles.

That's right. The Chargers are going to be the NFL's version of the pre-Chris Paul/Blake Griffin Clippers. I'm sure that will go very swimmingly.

Hearing rumors that the Chargers are looking at StubHub Center in Carson as a temporary home until Kroenke's palace is built.  That would be a switch, an NFL club renting from MLS.

At a 27,000 seat stadium? I don't think the NFL would let that fly.
