In search of Larry O'Brien: 2015 NBA Playoffs

I'm torn because I always get excited for the grit-'n'-grind Grizzlies and the possibility of bringing joy to Memphis, but I want to see this Warriors team go all the way too. I don't think they're going to foster a new era of unwatchable NBA basketball, though. Whichever team gets Tom Thibodeau next year might come out with a renewed commitment to defense, but that's about it.

There is something great when Tony Allen can become an airport spokesman.

But GSW should not have made a parade route plans so early.

WE ARE BORED!

My thought on "Hack-a-Shaq"...

It is boring. Yeah, yeah, yeah, guys need to make free throws. OK. But the fans need to enjoy the game; it needs to flow. Not only that but "unintentional intentional" fouls at the end of the game (college and pro) serve to bring the end of games to a grinding hault (and help teams that have been outplayed by trading three-pointers for two free throws).

So what I'd do is allow any team that is fouled to decline the free throws. Then guys are just adding to their personal foul totals for no reason. The team fouled could just inbound it. The question would be what to do about the shot clock. I'd say leave it where it was at at the time of the foul (maybe bring it up to 5 seconds if the foul occurs with the clock winding down).

You cannot realistically call these fouls intentional, but the way it is working is boring and rewards what we all know is intentional fouling.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

Hack a Shaq didn't work because, ultimately, those Lakers ended up beating themselves. Hack a Jordan isn't working either that well either (though Pop was pretty close).

I don't mind the strategy myself, but I think it'd be better if it worked. And I'd hate to see a rule change based on one guy during one postseason. Teams stopped fouling Shaq because he got better at FTs. DeAndre has an offseason to figure that out too.

This has bugged me more in regards to the end of games. College games in particular get unbearable. Of course the fact that each team gets a million timeouts is a factor as well. I realize that few games really utilize the "hack-a" strategy. And if it works, I don't blame a coach for doing it. But I am OK with the rules changing to not make intentional fouling a good strategy...particularly to give the team that's been outplayed for 46 and a half minutes (or 38 and a half) a chance to weasel back into the game with something not really resembling basketball.

As if airports weren't confusing enough, the official spokesman is on the record saying "But it ain't nothing I ain't never seen before."

You don't change the rule because one guy can't make free throws; you change the rule because it's against the spirit of the game and makes for terrible basketball, and a terrible product.

I'm rooting for the Cavs to fire Blatt before the next round. He's clearly in over his head, the players don't respect him, and he almost cost his team the win.

Also, I remember Tyronne Lue the player and it's really hard to square that memory with his current status as respected vet and mentor. I don't begrudge him his success; I'm just surprised by it.

Dubs looked MUCH better tonight. Steph looked ultra focused after the last two rough games he had. Hopefully they bring the same energy back home in Oakland.

Hopefully there won't be a next round for the Cavs and then perhaps the decision will be easier. Wish it would have cost them that game, but it's not like the Bulls didn't catch enough breaks.

Both of the underdogs really could have used wins tonight. Seems like it's done for both of them -- I could see the Grizz winning one out of three after tonight, but two out of three seems almost impossible.

Is Wall coming back?

Two out of three is impossible? They just won two in a row.

Yeah, but Steph Curry and Klay Thompson didn't play in those games. I mean, not really.

Memphis' best shot to really put a strangle hold on this series came last night, and they got absolutely manhandled. The adjustments that Kerr made really discombobulated the Grizzlies, and they basically forced Tony Allen to win them the game and he failed miserably. Steph Curry seemed to finally wake back up, too, and even Khlay Thompson looked much better last night. Add to that the fact that Mike Conley looks downright spent, and the Grizzlies look like they're in some serious trouble.

The Grizzlies coach said after the game last night that if they want to have any shot to win this series, they're gonna have to score at least 100 points a game. I'm not even sure that's possible considering the mismatches.

Man do I want a Clippers Warriors WCF.
