This was a weird one.

Houston just got stupid hot from three and the Clippers missed good looks.

It's not like the Rockets did anything awesome. The shots just feel, and it's no gimme they fall Sunday.

Personally, I hope the Clippers win Sunday because I think Houston would NOT match up well with whoever wins Golden State/Memphis.

But HOU also missed 9 consecutive 3PT attempts in Q2 and Q3. The Rockets shooting somewhat evened out.

Hey fan police, is it ok for me to criticize the way the team I root for plays now?

Crap like this is why I was mad they didn't handle business back in game 5. Ridiculous.

Seriously, where are all those douchebags? This was so obviously going to happen from the opening minutes of Game 5. Maybe people should stop and think that the actual fans of the team might know what we're talking about before criticizing us for not being homers.

Personally, I'm always going to be a fan, but I'm never getting my hopes up for this team again. I'll just be a casual fan and spend every year waiting for them to find another hilarious way to fail to get past the second round of the playoffs. This franchise is the Washington Capitals of the NBA, except even more futile.

I hope we don't end up with HOU/MEM.

Of all the conference finals possibilities, that would be by far the least entertaining.

I don't see how anyone, with the Lakers/Spurs gauntlet we've had over the past ten years or so, could be against a matchup like that. I want the Warriors and think they'll be our west representative, but how would a matchup featuring a new franchise like the Grizzlies against a team that hasn't been to the Finals since the OJ trial not be interesting? That's beautiful for the NBA. You gotta remember how unique it is for the NBA of all leagues to have a new champion.

This is a VERY unique year for the NBA where we could potentially have the Clippers/Warriors/Rockets/Grizzlies vs the Cavs/Hawks/Wizards in the finals. I absolutely HATE the way the NBA has been over the last fifteen years or so and I can't possibly think of a better combination of teams who could win than this year.

Except for the Sacramento Kings. But that'll happen only in my dreams. SOME DAY!!!

^^^ It's not just Lakers/Spurs.

It's Lakers/Spurs/Mavericks in The Finals from the West since 1999 but for the OKC year (short season).

In the East, the lack of mobility from Irving could really help ATL and Jeff Teague iif they advance.

David Blatt- worst coach ever to make a conference finals?

Not even close. Its Mike Browns and everyone else.

To be FAIR... David Blatt does deserve some credit. The Cavs defense stepped up to hold the Bulls under 40% shooting for the last 4-5 games. In addition, those guys have got to be ready to play. The Cavs has missed Love, Kyrie, JR Smith, and Shumpert for significant time this series. Guys gotta be prepared and they were. I think some of that credit has to be given to Blatt.

That game was absolutely pathetic. Clipper fans have every right to boo the home team. First they clock out early in game 2 the minute Houston starts challenging them, displaying that "naw man, we got a split! S'all good!" mentality that I really f-cking hate in pro basketball, then they're a no-show for game 5 because f-ck it, they're going back to LA one way or the other, and now... THIS? What is it about teams coached by Doc Rivers taking off playoff games?

The sad thing is, the Rockets themselves are entirely capable of crapping the bed in game 7. So the Clippers might actually live to tell the tale.

The Rockets will be your next NBA Champion. Why? Because they're part of the Clique of champions.

There, I said it.

I'm strangely sensing a Bulls-type performance out of the Wizards tonight, I don't know how much this team will have in the tank after the last 2 games and Wall still not at 100%.

I'm pulling for a Golden State-Atlanta Finals. Two 60+ win, entertaining teams to watch and no LeBron or Hack-a-Shaq.

There, I said it.

Even so, they have not won it all in 20 years.

We are looking at a Final Four of:

  • Cleveland
  • Atlanta (or possibly Washington)
  • Golden State (or better yet, Memphis)
  • Houston (obviously, but I have to mention LAC)

David Stern is going to have to come back into the fold because this is not how the NBA is supposed to be.

The last Finals appearance from this group came in LeBron's first Cleveland stint and the last win came in 1995.

I think this is awesome. But I am in the minority. If Cleveland loses the next series, the finals are going to take a beating. Atlanta/Houston? Can you imagine? But if Cleveland wins, LeBron is probably enough to draw some viewers.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

Oh, Cleveland is going to win. Atlanta tried their best to lose to the freaking Nets and it getting more than they can handle with the Wizards. I think we all knew that the winner of the Cleveland/Chicago series would be representing the East in the Finals.

I agree 100% (unless that was sarcasm). People have been bitching for the longest time about all the buzz revolving around the "marquee" franchises, and how no other franchise ever gets an opportunity to win. Well, be careful what you wish for, because the league's moving into a period where all of those franchises are going to be crap, sans the Cleveland LeBrons. Now those people going to get to see just how boring the league is when the Atlantas and Houstons and Washingtons of the world are the relevant teams in the playoffs. And if LeBron gets eliminated early? God help everyone. Interest will fall off a cliff. The NBA was already in trouble because the game is really starting to trend toward that dumb Euroball style, which is awful to watch, and officiating/play stoppages are really starting to get out of hand.

I realize that it will never happen (for a litany of reasons), but the NBA is the league that would benefit most from mass contraction. There just isn't enough quality talent to go around for 30 teams, especially when the league (and a good chunk of the players) are so oriented towards accomplished big market clubs like the Lakers, Knicks, Bulls, Celtics, Mavs, and Heat. Everyone else is doomed to fail unless they win the lottery in a good draft year. Oh how I wish the NBA could just cut six franchises or so out of the fold altogether.

Golden State has the opportunity to win several in a row. It's a young core, Steph Curry is really, really good, and Steve Kerr seems to have an excellent handle on how to be an NBA coach.

That's all to say that there may be a first-time champion this season, but that champion may also be set up for a Spurs-style launch like back in 1999 (though it took a bit for that second title to come).

I think Golden State and Los Angeles are the favorites from the West as far as viewership goes. I think the NBA has marketed enough of Curry and Thompson to hold interest, especially with the 60+ win team. The East, they obviously want Cleveland. But if it isn't Cleveland, its hard to tell who would be favored over Atlanta or Washington. I would assume it would be Washington, since the Baltimore/DC market is comprable to Atlanta. The Wizards also have more marketable stars and story line, I think. John Wall, Bradley Beal and MAYBE Otto Porter, learning from the wiley veteran, Paul Pierce. It may be a stretch, but I would guess Washington would be favored over Atlanta.

Secretly, you love it. It's why you're a Clippers fan in the first place.
