Only time will tell if the new St. Pete park will be as much of a white elephant as Miami is dealing with,

Marlins Park was plunked down at the site of the old Orange Bowl, surrounded by residential and not much else to draw in other than the ballpark.  The Rays ballpark is at least downtown adjacent and will have other surrounding businesses and entertainment for the offseason times.

Yeah Marlins Park is in a very weird spot. I don't imagine there's a whole lot of free real estate downtown or really anywhere along the oceanfront, but a stadium along the ocean in Miami would be awesome.

I know that long before the current Marlins ballpark was built, there were considerations to build at the city park just north of the Heat arena on the harbor.  I don't know why that fell apart, but that would have been the best waterfront option.

Me neither but I am staring in the direction of Jeffrey Loria and David Samson

That rendering looks like something some overly ambitious middle manager put together in SimCity.

It's just the real rendering (minus the tower) copied and pasted onto the waterfront.

I have not heard the rumors of Camden trying to lure the Sixers in a while.

It's constantly there in the background.  Especially since they've already given them so much to get them to move their entire non-game day operation there.  It'll never happen, as they really wanted their arena on the West Bank of the river and not the East, and the idea of taking a ferry or PATCO to a game is very unappealing and I'd not want to go, and for the car-users, paying an increasing toll to get back into PA isn't attractive either.

Re: A's

Do they dare bring back Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire to any kind of closing ceremony?  AFAIK, McGwire has laid pretty low since his playing days and subsequent disgrace, but Canseco seems like a total train wreck even to this day.

McGwire was a hitting and bench coach for many years with the Cardinals, Dodgers and Padres.

McGwire was a hitting or bench coach for the Cards, Dodgers, and Padres from 2010-2018.  Not really laying low.

I meant staying out of the news and staying away from any controversies.  Not that I follow him, but I haven't heard anything other than the initial controversy of him getting into coaching, which seems to have been going well.

The A's have had Canseco involved. They gave away a dual bobblehead, showing him hitting and stealing a base.  And he was interviewed by Brodie Brazil and Dave Stewart.

Wow - cannot believe he's 60.  Obviously it makes sense given I have all his rookie cards from '86, but it's still a little jarring.
