What do you guys make of the expansion (Seattle and Vegas) rumblings?

Silver's denying it of course, but I'd say those 2 should be ear-marked if and when they expand.

I always though the NBA would be the first sport in Vegas TBH.

I'm sure it's true. Seattle was a given since the Sonics first left and Vegas only makes sense given its rapid rise in sporting circles (earned or not). I'm sure we'll see expansion announced soon (after the next media deal is when I heard) and Seattle and Vegas will be fast-tracked to the top. I don't see them starting play until like 27/28, especially if expansion does wait until after the media deal.

It'll have been 20 years (!) since the Sonics left. Unbelievable.

I am so old.

As someone who loves speculating about league expansion, and seeing the new branding that results from it, I'm excited about the prospect.

But as a realist who watches the league today, I'm also surprised by it. I feel like after years of competitive imbalance, the league is as close as it's been in a long time to competitive parity. As many of you mentioned, this year's finalists were not predictable in ways they have been in the past. More fans than ever enjoyed a point in this season where they could think maybe their team could make a run at it. I worry that adding two teams into the mix will only serve to water down that relative parity.

In theory, sure.

But in practice, Draymond is a cheat code. He's given extra fouls other players aren't. Rasheed Wallace wasn't given this leeway, and was probably just as crucial to the Blazers' and Pistons' success.

Dramyond is a really important player. It's unfortunate he's allowed to have multiple tech-level offenses that other guys don't.

I know what you mean. But it wasn't that long ago that these things you describe were considered a skill. Dennis Rodman got away with a lot of stuff, too. I'd argue that Draymond is just better at it than Rasheed was.

Having a guy like Draymond that can get under your team's skin is an asset. You're not supposed to like him.

Draymond is a PoS.

But his BS doesn't piss me off as much as the fact that other teams, aren't allowed to match him on it.

A guy like Smart or White try to pull what Dramond does, and they 100% get fouled & thrown out of the game.

Right. That's the problem. Pat Beverly is a nuisance, but he isn't allowed to go out and tackle people and curse out refs. I don't get why Draymond Green -- of all people -- gets a different rulebook.

Watching Draymond can be so infuriating. Not because he's real good or acts like a jackass. It's because he is for some reason allowed to scream and yell in officials' faces without any repercussions. I'm all about jackasses in sports. It's my favorite thing. I want the drama.

It just feels like Draymond's allowed to do all but punch people while others are given techs for looking at refs slightly wrong. It's absolutely bizarre. I once watched Marc Gasol talking to a ref at halfcourt and a separate ref all the way at the baseline ran over and gave him a tech, and no I will never get over it because Draymond can get away with murder.

You're right. Draymond is basically a wrestling heel. I love that aspect of him. The problem is that instead of having to go behind the ref's back to kick the good guy in the dick, Draymond kicks him in the dick right in front of the ref without any distractions or anything. He's almost playing a different game from everybody else.

I would like to reiterate that I love to hate Draymond. He's a good player and a better jackass, and I love jackasses in sports.

Draymond is absolutely one of those dudes you feel blessed to have, because the other side of this whole thing just looks awful. Real glad I can just enjoy him and laugh at his “antics” rather than feel the rage of him doing this kinda :censored: to my team.

Hot prediction: The NHL will expand again before the NBA.

If the NBA does expand I think an actual open expansion process would be fascinating given how much the league has changed since the last one (the four-teamer in the late 80s). Back then the Lakers were the only team that fit the profile of a destination franchise. Nowadays, thanks to that expansion plus a couple of other teams getting their act together, there are several "destination" teams that will always be able to attract franchise talent and keep themselves on the map, and several other franchises that will only ever be able to draft it, and probably not be able to keep it if they do get it. Needless to say, the NBA definitely wouldn't want to add to the latter list.

I was going to go on a spiel about how I don't see why Vegas and Seattle should be the automatic winners and why some other places are interesting, but as of 2016 NBA teams voted in favor of a territory expansion to 150 miles from their home city,  instead of just 75 miles. That article makes no mention of potential expansion/relocation though, so maybe that is just for "marketing" purposes and 75 and still the limit for expansion/relocation. If each team now has a 150 mile protection zone, that would leave Vegas and Seattle as pretty much the only expansion options.

Actually I don't think anyone predicted Cavs-Warriors and the beginning of the 2014-15 season.

I remember thinking the 2015 finals matchup was pretty based, actually. I think if Cavs/Warriors only happened twice, with each team winning one title, people would remember it a lot more fondly.

I think most people had the Thunder or Spurs winning the west that season.

If KD doesn’t join Golden State, there’s a good chance that happens.

I think almost every team has one of those sorts of guys -- Marcus Smart being the obvious other one in this series -- but Draymond has the perception of getting way, way more leeway from the referees. That and he talks a lot more :censored: by the standards of the modern NBA, and being "that guy" on the dynasty team that's beating and annoying everyone makes you a target of ire.

Of course last night he fouled out with 2 points. So the villain doesn't always win.
