Yeah, I won't deny Butler was a beast and the best player in the series, but that's mainly because he was single-handedly carrying the team.

Don't forget too the Bob Cousy trophy also went to the Celtics.

LOL it is funny how both ECF trophies are names after former Celtics players.

I’m not particularly excited about this matchup, but I guess it is kind of cool from a historical perspective that two of the original NBA teams are in the Finals for the 75th anniversary. One game with both teams in thier throwbacks would be pretty cool.

I’m definitely finding myself rooting for the Celtics, if I’m having to make a choice. I appreciate the Warriors’ greatness, but I’m also frankly bored out of my skull by them in the same way I got bored with the Patriots or UConn Women’s basketball or other dynasties. I’m just that kind of fan that gets more excited over new blood and/or surprises over repetition in championship settings.

It’s not lost on me either that wanting more parity and rooting for a team with 17 titles seems contradictory, but the Celtics haven’t won one in 14 years and that’s the closest thing to parity between the two choices left. Besides, I genuinely really like Tatum, Brown, and Udoka especially and would be happy to see them win a title.

It should be a good Finals. The Celtics have played the dynasty-era Warriors as well as anyone in the league for several years now, even in years when the Celtics weren't contenders like this year. But I think they might be doomed with the lack of poise and experience, comparatively (still struggling with turnovers and not playing a full 48 minutes). And failing to close out Miami in 6 is a killer. Nobody needed that extra flight to Miami while GSW got plenty of rest; Boston's has two very physical 7-game series in a row, and Rob Williams and Smart both look pretty obviously not back to 100% out there.

Gah, the Heat would’ve been an immensely better matchup for the Warriors than the Celtics.

Even so, I think Dubs in six, at most.

This really is a lose-lose situation; either Golden State wins another damn title, or the sports world has to put up with the inflated ego of Boston sports fans getting a title once again.

I guess the Celts are the lesser of two evils in this situation, but still, I feel like a lot of people will just root for the meteor this year.

It could be worse: The Lakers

. Hell Toronto was able to be at them.

Toronto beat Steph and Dray. KD and Klay we're gone. This is a semi-factual statement.

Warriors in 6. They've got better parts than they did with the first run.

I've been vocally anti-Warriors for a while, but that's transitioned from annoyance to begrudging respect. They had a death star roster, fell off for two years and, just like they did in the early 2010s, hit on pretty much every single draft pick.

They're the model NBA franchise and if Steph and Klay stay healthy, they might win two or three more.

Aren't Steph & Dray still on the team? Granted they also have new guys like Poole & Wiggans now.

Warriors are probably the better team, but they aren't they aren't the juggernaut they were years ago.

I'd also probably respect GS more if 2 of their titles didn't come from becoming and neigh unstoppable superteam that broke the league. but the fact they're still able to be so competitive without KD is commendable but also infuriating as it's just more proof they didn't really need him.

You missed the point. Yes, Steph and Dray are still on the team, but in 2019, both KD and Klay went down with injuries that made it easier for Toronto to stomp them.

Since I still haven't managed to get a better answer as to why everyone hates them than "they win too much" I'm really hoping the Warriors win this thing going away. The fact that it'll annoy everyone who seems to be coasting on general pettiness makes me want to be petty right back.

And as mentioned a few posts back, at least it's not the Lakers. Their embarrassing flame out, and apparent future disarray has made this the most enjoyable NBA season in years. Add Kyrie Irving and James Harden going out like kittens to the Lakers misery and I've really enjoyed this post season.

There has never been any anti-Warriors argument that’s not “they’ve run their team unbelievably perfectly”, it’s just extra annoying that the team that figured it out is also the avatar for 2010s Silicon Valley as opposed to a beloved small market (though the Bucks have come close and did, ya know, win a title). Plus, admittedly the Oak-> SF thing totally sucked and made the NBA that much more generic.

I've given you plenty of good reasons and you've chosen to pretend I haven't, along with also pretending I haven't owned being a jealous sports fan.

Trolling is the lowest form of communication.

I think I'm in the same boat. They're a team that got good, became all-time great, and then added an elite talent which made the league boring. I remember being so excited for the inevitability of a Warriors vs. Cavaliers III until Durant signed. Then it just became hammer vs. nail instead of a really cool rivalry. Then that faded and they quickly rebuilt. Imagine if they had just trusted the process though.

There isn't a better answer. That was the point. 99% of sports hate is based on being wronged. Nobody is alive to remember the time the Vikings wronged anybody which is why they're pitied rather than hated.
