Are we sure that's not the City Connect uniform?

Agreed, it’s gotta be the City Connect. Their president mentioned finding a permanent identity they could use for years to come. It’s going to be the new modified script that’s been around, TC on the hat, and maybe some modified other logos.

it will look more uniform and consistent. The M with the star has got to be the one off, or even an alternate mark.

I just hope if the Twins do make wholesale changes (which I kinda hope they don’t), I hope that they actually go all the way with it and don’t do something dumb like make a bunch of changes to the logos yet keep the navy, red, and gold. Like, if you’re going to insist on making a bunch of changes, don’t half ass it. I don’t like that the Guardians did that, but I’m coming around to the idea because of the circumstance. The Twins won’t get that same kind of a pass to me if they keep the most overused color scheme in the league yet change everything else.

I posted this in another thread, but it bears repeating here.

The Twins have been wearing RWB since 1901 and three World Series. Go pick on the Rangers (1961, 0 WS) or the Nationals (1969, 1 WS)  or the Angels (1961, 1 WS) to change their colors.

Nationals I’ll give you, but the Rangers don’t wear navy and red, and the Angels are red with just a touch of navy.

Look, like I said, I don’t want the Twins to make wholesale changes. But if they change all of their logos and scripts (which sounds possible with the “M Star” rumor) yet keep the old color scheme, it’ll be a failure of a rebrand.

The Twins use a different combination of Pantone colors than every other team in the league, therefore they have a unique color scheme.

Edit: Actually, this is in a strict sense wrong, the Braves and Cardinals also use officially use Pantone 200 and 289, but they're shaded differently in other applications. So it depends.

You did read the part where I said I didn’t want them to make big changes, right? That actually includes the colors. I think the Twins are a few tweaks away from having a great look. All they really need to do is reintroduce pinstripes and ditch the gold.

But in the hierarchy of what the twins shouldn’t change, the colors sit at the very bottom IMO. They’re the least valuable part of their package. If they’re going to insist on changing away from the TC (and again, this is all hypothetical, so don’t get your stuff in such a twist over this), they might as well do a full scale separation. It’s just a personal preference I have, that’s all.

And the Angels. And no, they are not shaded differently between different applications for each team. In addition, the average, non-pantone-obsessed fan would never notice the difference between those 4 teams or Boston or Washington or Cleveland.

They really could blend the 2 World Series era uniforms.

Home would go back to pinstripes with the updated 1960s Twins script.  TC hat.

Road would go back to the pinstripes and Minnesota in block lettering.  M hat.

As for the alts I honestly like red at home and blue on the road (the blue road alt worn from 1997-2008 is my favorite Twins jersey).

All four teams should change their colors. The less RWB teams in MLB the better.

Don’t hate the R/W/B in baseball (and since I apparently have to be this specific, I’m talking navy blue in particular), I just don’t like that there are so many teams that all use it. We’ve talked about all of the teams that use the same color scheme (or at least similar enough, Pantone values notwithstanding), and that’s crowded enough. But there are (unless I’m miscounting) thirteen teams that use navy to some extent, and that includes nine teams in the AL. That’s overkill. If you’re going to make big changes anyway, why wouldn’t you want to differentiate yourselves from the rest of the pack? And again, I get the historical argument that the colors are old, but that’s also a reflection there only being so many available colors to use for dyes in the past. It’s 2022. We don’t have those same textile issues any longer.

I just look at a team like the Padres, who made such a dramatic shift from being one of the most boring and forgettable teams in the league from a branding standpoint, to probably the most unique. Why wouldn’t you want to strike out on your own with your own look that’s easy to separate from the other eight teams in your league who use it?

On another note, I still find it baffling that there is exactly one team in MLB that uses green. The color balance is so far off in baseball.

C'mon man, you can't really consider the Padres switching to brown as some wholesale introduction of a new color scheme. The fanbase had been clamoring for a return to the franchise's original colors after decades of their brand being adrift.

That's hardly the same as suggesting the Twins just suddenly become a green team out of some need to be different. The Twins aren't the 2008 Rays, which had barely registered on the baseball world when they switched to a whole different branding and color scheme. This a team that's been in Minnesota as a red-white-blue team for more than 60 years, with two titles to it's name. That's brand equity.  Losing that just to stand out from the pack would be a terrible decision.

I realize you're not necessarily advocating for that. You're only suggesting that if they do some sort of wholesale change, that they should do it all the way. And I think that's a fair suggestion for someone who isn't personally invested in the franchise. Change is exciting. But if you're a Twins fan, they wouldn't be the Twins if they were in other colors. At that point, why stop at the colors? If you're going to go all the way, you may as well rebrand the franchise.

Yes, and I understand that. But, as you said in the last part of your post, that’s not even what I was saying lol.

Like, I get that the Padres and Twins situations are different, and I also get that the Padres didn’t just magically pick the two colors they’re now using out of thin air.  I’m simply stating that it was a perfect refresh for them because it swapped them to a color scheme that nobody else uses from something that was over saturated.

Also, when it comes to brand equity, I kind of think that can really only go so far when your sharing colors with so many other teams. If anything, IMO the Twins probably use their version of R/W/B in a much weaker way than a lot of the other R/W/B teams do. I feel the real strong points for the Twins are the logos and wordmarks. I personally think they would stand out just as much in a different color scheme as they do now 🤷‍♂️

Damn, I really never expected to get into a debate that lasted this long over the Twins colors 😂

But like I said, this is all probably moot anyway, and I don’t even want the Twins to change anyway outside of a few relatively minor tweaks lol.

Barf.

EDIT: Weird, they didn't embed.

EDIT 2: Got them to embed. Also, learned that the new cap won't have the weird color blocks on the side. The tweet is only referring to the TC. So the TC IS changing after all. Not major changes but it's changing. IDK how to feel. Like it's nice, but it's not the Twins to me. The TC is the only thing that's remained the same without any changes since Opening Day 1961.

  • EDIT 2.5: Yeah, I get it's similar to how the TC used to look on the caps in the 1960's, but in print media, graphics, advertising, etc..., the TC has been the same since 1961. I'm a bit worried, as a Twins die-hard, how it will look in 2D vs on a Cap.

That’s the new logo…however every other team in that Southwestern collection on neweracap.com uses gold in the logo…so I don’t know if the T will be gold.
