Bryce Harper coming back as the DH tomorrow, only 160 days after Tommy John.  Was originally projected to be back around the all-star break.  No minor-league rehab.

Once he's allowed to throw, he'll be the first baseman.  The last hurdle for him to return to hitting was getting cleared to slide head first since that could mess with his elbow.

If I'm Thomson, I'm pulling his @$$ out of the game if he even thinks about sliding head first.

Yeah, that's definitely concerning, but he was specifically cleared for head-first sliding so hopefully the doctors didn't feel pressured to clear prematurely.  It's ElAttache (sp?) so probably not someone who would be bullied.

It's the fastest anyone's ever come back from TJ surgery.  I'm so freaking nervous that he's going to get off to an understandably-slow start, then press too hard, and reinjure himself.  With the extra wild-card, and with them not having any chance at the bye, I'd rather them just tread water for another month and be sure about it.

So umm...yyyyeeeahh. While sitting in Oriole Park at Camden Yards today watching the home team hey blanked—with two blunders by the first baseman mixed in for good measure—by the freaking Pittsburgh Pirates, I briefly looked at their season thus far and...are the Pirates...actually...trying to be good this season?? I mean, I saw more pop in their bats in the first inning alone than I think I saw in the entire seven years I lived in Pittsburgh. Hits? Runs? Crisp fielding? Who are these guys? (And exactly how did Andrew McCutcheon end up back with them? Didn't expect that at all.)

Good to see Pitt competitive.

Cutch had a bad year in Milwaukee last year. I'm happy that he's back where he started to close his career.

They've actually been struggling lately after being in first place for the first month+. But still better than expected and I think Cutch is gonna have a good veteran effect on a talented young team. Cruz is out, but they extend Reynolds, who had previously requested a trade, so I'd say things are looking up for the Buccos... dammit. 😒

Until/unless their management blows it all up again 😤

I feel like this just happened like maybe six or seven years ago...the Pirates actually were competitive for an entire season and actually in the wild card race and then...poof. Right back to being, well, what they are.

For the good sake of what fans are left in Pittsburgh, I hope they actually make something of this young squad they have now.

And while we're talking about teams being competitive...break up the Twins! (At least for today.) Baltimore couldn't put a run on credit today; meanwhile Minnesota just put up sixteen on the Cubs (!).

For context and backstory, “littlemann17” / AJ Rodriguez is a disabled Twitch streamer who, two years ago while playing MLB The Show proclaimed he “can’t escape Cedric Mullins” while playing the game. Well, on Sunday the two finally met in real life-

On Monday night, home run ball collector and renowned dickbag Zack Hample snagged a homer hit by Cedric and mockingly proclaimed “I’m the Mullins guy tonight”-

Add Trea Turner to the list of softies that can't hack it.  At least Castellanos has remembered how to make contact this year and looks like an actual baseball player, albeit not one making $100M.  But this guy?  Total fraud loser.

Yikes. So, a few weeks ago I surprised a few people here by saying that despite being a big Giants fan, I’ve soured on Madison Bumgarner. Well, this is why. None of this surprises me.

I realize Trea Turner hasn't played where anyone cares about sports, but my god - he genuinely looks like a guy that's never played the game before.  He's basically an automatic out, and in the rare occasions he gets on, he's terrified to steal a base, and he's been nothing more than a mediocre fielder.  I thought he'd be closer to Bryce Harper than Nick Castellanos, but here we are.  At least Castellanos is getting hits this year, even if still not earning his $100M.  I'm not sure if/when Turner is going to remember how to play baseball.  Really hoping that we're not going to regret being stuck with this guy for 10 more seasons.  I guess he just wanted the check, and then checked out.

He played for the nationals and dodgers during World Series runs. What are you talking about with him not playing where anyone cares about sports.

that’s exactly what I meant.  Neither city is known for rabid baseball fanaticism. He’s another soft guy who’d thrive on the cardinals or Reds or a team like that.  Anyone watching him this season would have to question how he’s ever had any success.

While he did get lucky and hit a HR in the 9th, it's gotten so bad for this loser that even the TV PBP guy - who's the nicest guy in the world - is laughing at how bad he is.  These are two consecutive pitches.

Then what happened? Trea will be just fine

I sure hope so, because right now he looks like just another soft guy that wilts whenever there's the potential for criticism.  It's one thing to struggle.  Even MVPs go through stretches where nothing seems to go right.  But this guy - like Castellanos last year - doesn't even look like a AAA player.  I get it - you're in a different environment (which honestly, has been pretty nice to him so far up until yesterday) but just play the way you're supposed to.  He has $330M coming to him - he has nothing to worry about (unfortunately, he's playing like that.)  Right now he's joining the ranks of losers like Nnamdi Asomugha, who excelled when nobody was watching or nobody was really passionate, then signs a deal in a bigger sports town and regresses to the point where he ends up quitting.
