Ohh is it time for this :censored: again?

This bit is really annoying. If it's not a bit then it's really stupid and annoying.

Yikes. So, a few weeks ago I surprised a few people here by saying that despite being a big Giants fan, I’ve soured on Madison Bumgarner. Well, this is why. None of this surprises me.

Behind the scenes of Madison Bumgarner’s struggles with the Diamondbacks

Same. The dude was always an obstinate ass (with varying degrees of charm) and age (as well as the bike accident) has only made him worse. Blowing off basic stuff like scouting reports and refusing several pitching coaches doesn't make for any kind of on-field success.

Imagine thinking that the Dodgers and Cardinals don't have rabid fanbases lol

It’s weird because I know he travels a lot, so he isn’t just one of those insulated Philly dorks. I’m guessing it’s a bid, which, oof.

If you think the scrutiny and pressure from fans and media when playing in LA or StL is the same as playing in Boston or NY or other places, I’m not sure what to tell you.

Note that I’m not saying that the scrutiny and pressure is a good thing, or makes any one place better than any other, just that it’s a thing, and it 100% messes with some weak-minded players. It’s not a shock that players leave ”rabid” markets and go to others and excel, or leave others and come to these ones and choke.  I’m not sure why anyone takes these opinions personally.

Edit: unrelated, but currently on Toronto they’re no longer doing Skydome tours :(  It’s not the reason I came here, but definitely something I’ve been wanting to do since basically it opened.

It’s so weird how east coasters spend so much time sniffing their own farts over stuff like this. I don’t know if it really is because you’re really all that insulated, but none of you are as special as you think. I’ve been to Red Sox games that have put me to sleep and Dodgers games where I legit thought I was gonna die. That doesn’t mean Boston fans are fair weather or that LA fans are all that rabid. It’s all mostly relative, and a lot more equal than you think.

The ONLY time I’ve ever been to a sporting event and thought “Wow, they really do it bigger here than anywhere else in the country” are some of the SEC football games I’ve been to. And that mostly just felt more sad, in a way.

it’s not about “smelling my own farts” (though I’m not gonna lie, I do Dutch oven myself from time to time if they’re really hearty ones). I’m not saying it’s better- if anything, it’s worse because people get irrationally angry about little things.  Sure - there’s quiet games - a lot of them, just like anywhere. But the number of microphones and cameras  pointed at players (with reporters asking them why they suck, when they’re going to stop sucking, etc) is likely higher than places where there’s literally less media, or a million better things to do.  And where your failings get front-page articles, followed by “oh, and 15 people were wounded when a building collapsed, story on page 2”.

Players have said it. Hell - coaches have said it (Jonathan Gannon discussed the differences between Philly, Indy, and AZ scrutiny just a week or two ago.). Markel Fultz said it after he was run out of town then ended up turning into a serviceable player in Orlando (I think).

Honest question - are there as many big-name FAs that fail when they go from NY to say, KC as when players go from wherever to PHL, NY, BOS?  I’m not sure how this is interpreted as thinking any place is better than anywhere else, because it’s nothing to do with that.  But the fact is that players and pretty much anyone involved in the game will tell you it’s a different beast.

(I know this clip here isn’t unique, and I’m sure happens everywhere - even in the places I mentioned - but I think it’s funny so just gonna post.)

You don’t think they have media in LA, or DC?

Reds went into the bottom of the 9th in Boston up 9-3 and escaped with a 9-8 win. A Boston team nearly pulls off an improbable comeback, but falls just short.

Your Cincinnati Reds (well, they're someone's Reds) are only 3 games out of first in the NL Central.

As was pointed out during last night's Brewers-Jays broadcast, the first place Brewers would be in last place in the AL East.

It's where I sit.

Well that's only because the NL Central this year is Ass on Grass.

I'm gonna pump the brakes on getting any hopes up. They're still a 25-29 baseball team. I'm gonna see how June shakes out when they play the Brewers, Dodgers, Cardinals, Astros, Braves, Orioles, and Padres before I get excited. Don't know if their starting pitching can carry that load and the offense will be prone to stretches of ineptness, though they're hot currently. In any case it's fun to care about wins and losses again instead of being like "yeah they lost 11-4, but I liked what I saw from "Prospect #37" in his two at-bats. Progress is hard to see, but it's happening."

One thing I am excited about his Elly De La Cruz joining the big league club at some point.

I don't know what they're waiting for. He's about as proven as you can get in the minors.

Agreed about the division. SOMEONE has to win it.  As a Brewer fan now down 4 of 6 projected starting pitchers, I don't see us as being it. Heck, the offense has been  the bigger problem.

Jackson Chourios - waiting for him  🙂

And we all know that someone will be the Cardinals.

"But they're in last place" They're 4.5 games back and they're the Cardinals. They'll go 29-2 in the last month and win the division by five games. Then they'll win at least one playoff series against a team with a far better record. Everyone keep your head on a swivel.

Speaking of Central Divisions, it’s June 1st and the Tigers who are 26-28 are 2 games back from the Twins. If the Tigers play the way in May. They could be up in the division. Just amazing how bad the division is at the moment.
