The argument to that, which I subscribe to, is that the home team should be wearing their colours at home. Make the visiting team come in and look non-descript in the white jerseys that every team has and then the home team gets to show off their colours with the crowd.

 

As someone who goes to WHL games where they go half and half with dark and white at home, which more and more teams have been eschewing more and more "white at home" games over recent years, seeing the different team visiting team colour is an overrated thought experiment that you don't even notice in practice, IMO.

Your way makes sense too. I just take the opposite stance. However, even I think the Habs should wear the sweater home and away and only wear the whites once in a blue moon. Aside from them, white at home is what feels most hockey to me because that's what I grew up with, played video games with, and so on.

I may be/have been living in an alternate universe about this, but wasn't there something a good number of years back about the league switching home jersey designations halfway through the season (WAH first half/DAH second half)? I don't know, I may be totally off about this one...just something I think I thought I remember hearing or reading somewhere once before.

What I wish for - and I know it's likely not feasible for hockey like it is for other sports like soccer and basketball, due to logistics - is for a soccer-style "primary" and "clash". (And however many alternates you want, within your league's limits).

 

I've always preferred the color option. Reason being, and as I've always liked to say: Everyone has a white jersey. Not everyone has a <insert your team's color here> jersey. Even if WAH was still a thing, I'd probably buy all dark jerseys.

I get that teams don't want to pack twice as many uniforms for road trips but you'd think the league would arrange a few games a year where it was easy to have color vs color. They don't even do it for the Winter Classic lol

That was the AHL, the top minor league affiliate of the NHL.

If you're going to have a script, it should be diagonal. Otherwise there's too much empty space that a logo would normally fill.

I think it depends on the design of the script itself, and the jersey it is on. When Calgary did it, they included the flaming C and it filled up the jersey well (granted, it looked a lot like something you'd find on a t-shirt). Anaheim looked okay, but only because it sort of went with the swoop. But Washington does, indeed, look a little empty on the front. Dallas filled the space with a number on the front when they did it, which I like for college, but looks out of place in the NHL. Diagonal is the tried and true method, though.

 

The only times script on a hockey jersey annoys me is when it's an informal nickname. (It ruined what I thought was an otherwise killer Tampa Bay jersey years ago).

Look. This is a tricky one because we have a no politics rule but also this decision by the NHL has a political impact. Our options are to go "you can't talk about this period" or let it go and play itself out. Given that this is a discussion board well... you can guess how we decided. 

 

If you don't want to talk about it you can ignore it until it's old news. Or keep posting those  reactions. Really getting the impotent rage across.
