The_Admiral
I don't think they should tie themselves to the Buccaneers for a couple of reasons. One is that the Buccaneers' warm-grey uniforms are bad to begin with and should be abandoned anyway. But more that, conceptually, they're two very different organizations that paint two different pictures: the Lightning are a gold-standard operation that pretty much does nothing wrong (with the help of a low-pressure market and no state income tax) while the Buccaneers are a big shambling mess that falls ass over applecart into success in spite of itself (also probably with the help of a low-pressure market and no state income tax). They should stay separate. Not sure I'd insist upon gimmicky names and numbers if they finally got the color scheme right; as with the original Sharks, the novel color scheme does the heavy lifting and extra details would get in the way. 2 Quote ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

What do the Lightning have against silver these days anyways? Their original scheme was so original and represented their namesake perfectly. As Admiral said about the Sharks, it did all the heavy lifting on an otherwise conservative design. 1

Minus the outline numbers and adjusting the shade of blue, what about something like this for the Lightning?

Add the lightning to the pants, plus the victory stripes, and that wouldn't be a bad Bolts uniform.

Yeah, the "ghosted" numbers need to be replaced with regular white numbers.
Ark
I love that old TB Lightning font. They used to be really futuristic in theme, I hate that they did a complete 180 to look exactly like the Leafs.

DTConcepts
The Lightning never should have left this name/number font combo, naysayers be damned. 4 1 Quote "You ain't gonna learn what you don't wanna know..."

If you got rid of the yoke and extended black all the way to the cuff on the sleeve stripes you'd have something. The 2007-2011 logo would be a good fit for that template. Think it would work better with the 90s electric blue. The contrast between black and blue would be better, at least.
Morgan33
Making the perfect Lightning set is as simple as putting the 2007-11 logo on the original striping template with their original shade of (Hawaiian) blue.

Ridleylash
Not to mention it'd be pretty easy for the Kraken to say their design is legally distinct from the Metropolitans, considering it only shares very broad similarities (red S and a vaguely similar stripe pattern) with the Metropolitans jersey and more differences (different color scheme, different S shape, different name, different stripe style). They didn't even use the name in marketing, either. If anything, Seattle's Winter Classic design more closely resembles the red Ottawa 67's jersey than it does a 1-1 copy of the Metropolitans, and the 67's have had this jersey since their founding, minus some very brief periods; Plus, as Echo said, it's patently ludicrous that someone is suing because they decided to squat on the name of a team that's been defunct for 100 years just on the vague hope of getting to go after any pro franchise that settled in Seattle trying to honor one of the most historically-significant franchises in the sport. Funnily enough, they also didn't seem to have an issue with the Kraken raising a banner using the same trademarks they now claim the team is infringing at that time, either.

M4One
I don't know if this guy would win his case if it went to court, but unpopular opinion, the Kraken should have made a deal with this guy for the trademarks from the start (and probably will end up doing) instead of low balling him. If he was actually producing merchandise and selling it in significant numbers, I wouldn't consider it squatting on the name. Way back in 2010, the Canucks bought the rights to the Millionaires trademarks from somebody who had been selling Millionaires merch for 30 years.
