What makes "Wild" a great name in your book? The Avalanche can be the "Avs" and the Lightning can be the "Bolts". The "Wild", despite its very creative crest, doesn't work, sorry.

A big mistake not to go with "Northern Lights" with the use of green and yellow-gold.

Minnesota Wild has a nice ring to it, it's original, and it's fitting with the region.

Northern Lights is no way a better name than the Wild. Even if they were called the Northern Lights, it's still not the North Stars. Some people would still complain that it's not the absolute original name. They already added a northern light in the sky of the Wild crest. That's a good enough tribute to their roots that the designers could do.

This is the colour scheme the Dallas Stars should be using.  Acknowledge that second-six history.  You won your only championship in a darker, 90's version of this scheme and it's not hard to imagine the North Stars ending up with something similar, had they stuck around.

Since the Red Wings can be Red & White while the Devils are Red, White and Black...  Why can't Minnesota be Green, Yellow and White while Dallas is Green, Yellow, White and Black?  It's not like Green and Yellow is an overused scheme.

The Stars current uniforms look great.  Adding athletic gold would make them even better and play into their history perfectly.

Because teams will use black for their merchandise even if it's not a team color. I believe the Wings have done just that.

Of Minnesota and Dallas, one would have to use light green and the other dark green.

Dallas currently uses a different shade of green that's lighter than that North Stars green. If yellow is added, the shades would be off a bit. It may not look as good as it does in that Minnesota image.

The Dallas Stars never used North Stars gold/yellow. They always used a shade that contains a bit of bronze. When they rebranded to the D-Star logo, they considered adding their shade of copper/gold, but felt like it muddied the victory green. So they went with black and green, which is what their jerseys have been for half of their tenure, prior to the new uniforms.

The Stars actually use a darker shade of Green than what Minnesota used.  "Victory Green" was created by splitting the difference between their original shade, used for the 1993/94 season, and the Forest Green they used after.  It was brightened for print applications in 2021 but just so it more closely matched the colours of the sweaters themselves.

This is photo I took comparing two jerseys I own.  An authentic Dallas Stars one from 2018 to an Authentic North Stars from 1976.  The difference in shades is pretty negligible

They've always used a metallic gold, this is correct.  But the jerseys of the last North Stars and first Dallas Stars teams are almost identical.  The only change they made was adding the Texas shoulder patch so there's a through-line there.

I just think the Dallas Stars should use Green, Black and  Gold in some capacity.  Whether it's athletic or metallic.  It's a unique colour scheme with a significant amount of history and a championship behind it.  The current Stars uniforms look great in a vacuum but replacing Gold with Silver was a mistake.  It just doesn't feel like the same franchise.

Damn, I didn't notice that Dallas changed their shade again in 2021. The 13-21 shade is clearly different than the North Stars.

The other thing though is that the every concept I've seen of the D-Star with yellow/metallic gold included does not look very good. Green and yellow without black is pretty neat. But adding yellow to the current Stars uniforms would reek of 90s outlandish fads that age quickly and poorly.

I think that black works better with Dallas than it it did with Minnesota. The North Stars' black-infused jerseys don't look bad per se, but the added color feels unnecessary to me. The North Stars' identity is anchored by its bright, saturated color scheme, and the black detracts from that a bit imo. Makes the jerseys feel a little busier than they need to be.

After this season the Wild will have worn forest green & red for just as long as the North Stars wore kelly green & yellow. They have an established brand, and it doesn't make sense to throw it all away just to play North Stars dress up full time.

Eh, I'd disagree that it "messed up" the North Stars, myself; at least not until the twilight years in Minnesota. The jerseys they had before those were pretty solid and kept black and gold equal in the hierarchy;

They were terrible - black felt awkwardly shoehorned into the set, especially once they added black breezers. It didn't even fix the issue of yellow touching white, like the Flames did when they added initially black.

It also was a rethink of the team's identity, as opposed to the gradual shift of the North Stars. It wasn't a particularly good rethink, but it was understandable. The North Stars just slapped black onto a mediocre template.

Replace the silver with yellow on the Dallas Stars, and you'd have something worthwhile.

This is a perfect example of the trend from light colors to dark and back that happened in sports. What were we all thinking in the 90s and 00s?

It can be explained rather simply.  The Los Angeles Kings switched to this in time for the arrival of the most famous hockey player in the world and subsequently became the undisputed leader in merchandise sales.  Other teams wanted a similar revenue stream and hopped on the bandwagon.

rvZwmpb.jpg

The two most egregious examples were the league's two "Green Teams," The Minnesota North Stars and Hartford Whalers...  Both teams jettisoned their bright palettes for darker bases and metallic highlights.  The Northstars rebrand even employed a similar, italic, text-based logo while the Whalers borrowed the Kings silver trim and went with a Navy base so dark, it often appeared black on the ice.

From there Darker palettes became the trend.  The Stars would make their green even darker, after their move to Dallas, and the Oilers, Islanders, & Sabres would go down a similar trajectory.  It wasn't until the aftermath of the RBK Edge debacle that brighter colour palettes came back into fashion.

It's not a coincidence that of the past several new teams to join the league, almost all of them have shown up with a navy blue home jersey.

Seattle - NAVY

Vegas - Grey

Winnipeg - NAVY

Columbus - NAVY

Minnesota - Dark Green

Atlanta - NAVY

Nashville - NAVY
