what does this trade accomplish?

Easy -- makes the Celtics better, in my opinion. For the Hawks? No idea what they were trying to do, here.

The Celtics were once in the conference finals in 2001-02 with Antoine Walker.

I have no idea why Atlanta did this! It's pretty much just charity to Boston, as they come out with the exact same result they would've gotten had the just kept 'Toine, capwise. It's essentially trading Walker for a 1st Rd. Draft pick...but I think the Hawks could've gotten a little bit more had they made the effort

I am thrilled to have toine back. He's an immediate low post presence as well as a key locker room guy.

Rumor has it that the Hawks are going to release Payton and he will resign with the Celtics. Payton is definitley not washed up. Still has his suick step to the basket, great court vision, is and excellent leader. I would love to have him back, but I am thrilled to have Antoine back home.

I'll acknowledge his role in beating my Suns (sans Steve Nash and w/ Black Jesus in foul trouble). But damn, I hate Walker's game. His talent is undeniable. He just has no discipline when it comes to shot selection. Jacking up threes at an obscene rate w/ horrible accuracy is about as stupid an approach to basketball as I can imagine. And there's no excuse for a professional basketball player -- especially one who's not in the Shaquillean behemoth or Big Ben-ite defensive-specialist categories -- to shoot below 60% from the stripe. Terrible.

BTW, he wore No. 88 tonight. Compliments to Albert Belle.

Number 88 looked real weird on a Basketball uniform.

You're not kidding. It looks like one of thos goofy ebay fakes. I wonder what he does next year if they resign him. I'm sure he can buy the number out from Big Al Jefferson. There is an NBA rule that doesnt allow players to change numbers in the middle of the season, hence the 88.

Actually, you have to petition the league prior to Feb. 1st to request a change prior to next season.

The Sixers received a waiver in order to have Andre Iguadala switch from 4 to 9 so Chris Webber could have #4.

It's funny the same league that wouldn't grant a waiver for Jordan's request to switch from 45 to 23 after his first comeback (he was fined for wearing 23) would grant it for Webber.
