why do you have the jerseys you have?

It occured to me last night, as I was picking up another jersey at the mall, that I buy jerseys for some interesting reasons (which explains why I have so many), not including jerseys of my favorite teams/players. I sometimes buy jerseys that the time period of the jersey (like throwbacks, and/or, jerseys of players who don't play for a certain team anymore) because it brings back memories, even jerseys that may only be a couple years old. But anyway...

I'll get it started with a few examples-

I buy throwback jerseys because they remind me of the 94 NFL Throwbacks season, and that was the first year I REALLY got into football.

I bought an Amani Toomer white Giants jersey because it reminds me of the old 1994 Patriots road jerseys

I bought a T-Mac Magic jersey (circz 2002) because it reminds me of the time I started dating my gf, and I remember wanting one at the time.

I bought a Chicago Bears David Terrell jersey because I want to take off the nameplate and put "TIMPSON" because of my favorite football player back in the day, former Patriots/Bears WR Michael Timpson.

Lastly, when it comes to customizing baseball jerseys, I always stray away from getting popular players. The Red Sox are my team, and I have 3 customized Sox jerseys of Bronson Arroyo, former Sox INF Freddy Sanchez, and SS Orlando Cabrera. Everyone and their mothers has Ortiz, Schilling, Pedro, and Manny jerseys. I like to get guys who are not as popular.

I like Really Ugly Jerseys: 1930s Steelers, 1927 Bears, 1980 Canucks, 1976 Phillies alternate, 1977 Cavaliers, 1978 Caribous, 1994 US Soccer, 1998 Wiz, 1916 Giants. I also like to have my own made of unique teams or personalities: 1977 Strikers No. 4 (Ray Hudson), 1949 NFL Yanks No. 51 (Yep, Bernie Williams on a football jersey).

But I also have a bunch of jerseys of Trenton baseball teams, such as the 1912 Tigers, 1939 Senators, 1950 Giants, and 1994 Thunder.

I also like to collect road baseball jerseys; grey ones with city names on them.

there are a few things that attract me to jerseys. One is that the jersey catches my eye and i like it. Another is the Price. I bought an Eddie Jeorge Cowboys jersey in the Dallas ariport last week strictly because it was only $20. Another reason is because i like the player and what i have seen them do on the field. I have a few Mike alstott jerseys because he tears it up and plays so tough. I have A few eddie George jerseys for the same reason, But my favorite ersey is my Merton Hanks 49ers jersey because whenever you watched the niners, you were guaranteed to see the "Goose Neck" at least once a game. Another reason i buy them is to get them autographed. I have a ton of signed memorabilia including 20 to 30 jerseys

I was like that. I loved the unique looks and colors and logos. (See Predators, Islanders fisherman, Ducks and Coyotes to name a few.) But lately I've slowly starting a Sharks Game Worn collection. B)

I also have a "game-worn" collection of Pawtucket Red Sox jerseys. Because I was friends with a couple of the guys from the 2003 team, I have couple of those, and I also started buying the BP-worn jerseys they have out now...$75 a pop, not too bad, but my wallet isn't agreeing. I usually collect the PawSox jerseys of guys I already know (Andy Abad, Trace Coquillette, Freddy Sanchez), or guys that I just thought were great ballplayers that year (Jorge de la Rosa, Anton French).

last year when I was in cincinnati for the bengals browns game I went to a downtown sports store, they had a whole rack of used replica jerseys, for five bucks I got two islanders fishermen jerseys, two for five bucks, for fifteen dollars I got a teal charlotte hornets jersey (larry johnson) with matching shorts, and for another fifteen I got a gray with red pinstriped reds jersey from the nineties, I like the last one because I am usually the only one at reds game to wear it and I am considering getting Barry Larkin's name and number on it, him or Brett Boone. So for 35 dollars I got 4 jerseys and a pair of shorts.

Didn't you say that you were friends with Nick Swisher? I can see why she was mad. She probably thought that you could have asked him for one.

I just really wanted his AAA jersey. I got to a ton of Rivercats games and thought it might catch some eyes. I already have a home A's swisher jersey he gave me last December that i get asked about all the time, mainly because it has the #30 on it insted of his regular #33.

Most of the jerseys I own were either out of Value Village or Goodwill, or half off at Champs or somewhere. usually, I either like the team or the player (for example, if you ever see me with a Red Wings, USC or Mike McKenzie jersey on my person, I'll probably be burning it). a nicely unique jersey (Cowboys double star, most hockey jerseys, Mexico late 90s soccer jersey, 95 Barcelona Dragons) wins me over whenever I can find one, though :D

The majority of jerseys I have are jerseys that are mine--from teams I've played on or hockey tourneys I've played in. I've also got a fantasy league jersey (LA Tsunami, baby!) that I had made by the folks at fsgear. As for the pro jerseys, I don't actually have a whole lot. I of course have the teams I like (Blues, Wild, StL Cardinals fan jersey), and I've got the jerseys for both teams from the 2004 NHL All-Star Game (the East is blank, the West is Pronger 24--the only pro jersey I have customized), and I got those on sale. The others I've either had given to me (like a Flyers jersey I had to keep a fraternity brother from throwing away back in college), or they were cheap.

Interestingly, though, the first jersey I bought back when I was in high school was a Seattle T-Birds jersey that I bought so I could play rollerhockey in it. I just liked the logo, really.

I buy jerseys for one of three reasons. Either it's a team I really like, it's a can't miss price, or (as is the case most of the time) it's a jersey that will make people stop and look. I love walking down the concourse at the St. Pete Times Forum and have people look at my jersey as I go past. :P My collection has some pretty good head-turners; Tampa 3rd, Wild Wing Mighty Ducks, KC Scouts, etc.

i buy jerseys of the teams that I root for

yeah, wierd isnt it. nobody ever does that anymore

All my jerseys have fit in that category-except fpr the promotional one I got for spending too much at a music store.

Comic Sans walks into a bar, and the bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve your type here."
