Tremendous Thanks to robbman21

I would like to take the opportunity to give my heartfelt thanks to robbman for making me a jersey that I have been looking for for about 10 years, the 1970 Cowboys blue Roger Staubach jersey. Mitchell&Ness used to make the white one, which I have, but no one has ever made the authentic blue one, like the Cowboys wore in Super Bowl V. After seeing the 1961 Mickey Mantle jersey that robbman made for redsfan, I asked him if he thought he could do the Staubach jersey for me. After a couple of months, today I received it and I must say he did a fabulous job. It really looks just like those early 70's Cowboys jerseys, right down to the old style notched 2's like the Cowboys used to wear. Don't know why they ever changed that font.

Thanks Robb!!!!

For all the bird de lis haters I think the bird de lis isnt supposed to be a pelican and a fleur de lis I think its just a fleur de lis with a pelicans head. Thats what it looks like to me. Also the flair around the tip of the beak is just flair that fleur de lis have sometimes source I am from NOLA.

Are the 2's on the sleeves supposed to be a different style than the ones on the front/back?

Yeah, he only charges for supplies, labor (for his seamstress), and shipping.

First-off thanks a lot for all the kind words and comments on the jersey,I really appreciate it.Honestly I was scared to death that Griff would be disappointed because I thought that I could have done a better job...BUT I say that about every jersey that I make because I strive to make them as perfect as possible.

Now on to my pricing methods. That is correct,I only charge for what it costs me to make the jersey and I have other rules I'll get into as well. First-off I can almost always get the costs for everything down to within $5 of the final cost.I charge for the blank jersey and any tackle-twill I may have to purchase,a small labor fee of my own for doing the lettering/numbering and anything else, the cost for what it was to ship the supplies to me if they are not in stock(but not much in that area because I usually get some personal items when I order supplies as well),the cost my seamstress will charge for the sewing and/or altering that will have to be done, and then $5 for priority shipping with insurance and delivery confirmation to send it back to the buyer.

Now here are some of my rules about doing jerseys.I dont like to do existing Mitchell and Ness jerseys.I have and I will but I dont always like to be-it that it could be looked at as a knock-off or counterfeit. If I am asked about something that M&N also makes then what I'll do is go up a season or back a season to a style with maybe a certain patch, fabric style, cut,or just something that will seperate it from the M&N version so they are not carbon-copies. Also what I have found recently is that my jerseys are much closer to the on-field specs and cuts as to what they are duplicating.M&N does this to an extent, but not very much.M&N,since they sell in such volume and to a wide variety, basically have fashionable and comfortable 'cuts' with authentic styling. For example:If you purchase the 1992 Eagles Jerome Brown jersey there is not added elastic, hemming, lengthening, and other mods that would be made to the specs of the player by the equipment manager.Instead you get the Brown jersey on basically a QB template authentic jersey....or basically what the QB template was for 1992. The majority of what I do is to replicate as close as possible what was worn "on field" so it would be like taking the jersey off of the player's back.In some cases this is not possible since the fabrics or something else may be obsolete.

Also,if the team did not wear it,I'm not makin' it.I have been asked to do a Bears jersey #34 with 'SWEETNESS' on the nameplate.No.Not going there.I was asked once about doing the Denver Nuggets Rainbow style and replacing Denver with something crazy but in the same font and then a crazy name on the back. Not happening.I dont do custom jerseys and I dont slander existing team's jerseys. For one this takes a long time and is more work involved and there is always a bigger chance of disappointment.I will do fantasy jerseys though, but I classify those as different.

Finally,I only do these for people I know or friends on the board and on the hopes that it is for them or someone they know and it is for personal purposes only and will not ever be sold or used for a profit.I dont profit off of this and dont advertise either so I would hate for someone I helped obtain that ever-elusive jersey to turn around and sell it to someone for a large sum.

I think I summed it up but I'll answer any/all questions if anyone has any.I have 2 other projects almost ready to be unveiled and 2 other personal projects that I'm getting to when I have the time.Thank you guys again for the kind words and Griff again I'm very glad I was able to help you obtain that elusive jersey and I'm looking forward to our next project.

Robbman, the quality of that jersey is awesome. Looks like a lot of work and attention to detail went into it.

Couple questions?

Are the white sleeve stripes outlined in navy blue? Looks hard to tell.

Didn't Dallas wear shoulder numbers? I haven't seen any pictures with the numbers on the sleeve, they've all been high up on the shoulders.

Dallas moved the numbers from the shoulder to the sleeves for 4 years: 1970 through 1973 - which inlcudes their first two Super Bowls (losing to the Colts in the blues and beating the Dolphins in the whites).

By 1974 the numbers moved back to the shoulders. I'm looking for some action shots from Super Bowls V and VI, but here is a link to the Cowboy's team history page - select a year from the drop-down and click the link below the team picture to see a large-size photo showing the number placement.
