They want to protect the integrity of the game by walking a batter everytime so he can't break a record?

Welcome to 2003. Isn't that what all the pitchers were doing to Bonds during the year he hit 73?

Nevermind walking him. If you really want to give what he deserves, have every pitcher plunk him in the head. He'll still get a free pass to first, but he'll be seeing stars after a while. The most consecutive beanings is one record no player looks forward to holding. :angered:

...yes I know umps would but the kibosh on this after a while but I can dream.

You know...he hasn't been doing all that well this year. He's not going to break Aaron's record at this rate, and you know what, that's all that really matters. Pitch to him, it helps your team better.

Now if you wanted a guy to intentionally walk every time methinks Pujols is your guy.

I absolutely loathe Barry Bonds but plunking him every single time he bats wouldn't solve anything. I'd pitch to him, but if he hit a home run off me, and showed me up like the jerk off that he is by standing there, admiring it for 5 minutes, and walking halfway down to 1st base, I'd plunk him for sure in his next at bat. I can't stand the guy, that steroid taking prick, but I wouldn't plunk him for no reason. He is a jerk to the media and to everyone around him, but I'd only plunk him if he showed me up as a pitcher.

I hate Barry as much as anyone. I'd love to hit him in the face with the ball 90 concecutive at-bats.

This is a fan site, expressing their distase for Barry. That isnt a problem.

Suggesting that walking him every time would "preserve the integrity of the game," however, is just silly.

I think "the cream" and a head 10 sizes too big for the body compromise the integrity of the game more than a little bruise and a free pass to first base does.

Now that his squash has grown to Ken Griffey Jr. on "The Simpsons" proportions, do you realize how much skill a pitcher needs to have NOT to hit him in the head?

:P

BTW, Barry comes to Philadelphia tonight; I'm pre-emptively bracing for whatever black eye one of our local yokels gives to our reputation [again] trying to taunt Bonds at CBP. If San Diego fans can be that surly, I can only imagine what could be in store... :therock:

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

I agree, EyeAmRaps88. Although I'm not sure if I would bean him if he showed me up. I'd probably strike him out and then stare at him as he takes his seat on the pine. But I don't have that kind of heat. Still that would be a thrill.

Here's something to ponder. So what if Bonds passes Aaron? We all know he cheated to get there so it's going to be about as hollow an achievement as we've ever seen. Bonds could hit 900 homers but most everyone will still see Aaron as the true record holder. Plunking or walking him to keep the record safe is no better than using steroids to get there.

The sad part of the whole thing is that if Barry had just played it straight he probably would have gone down as the greatest overall player ever. Now he's just a freakish sideshow with a huge head and no one likes him.

Plunking or walking him to keep the record safe is no better than using steroids to get there.

Maybe it's not in the spirit of the game, but at least walking someone or even plunking them isn't considered cheating.

To say that walking or plunking someone is on the same level as taking steroids is by no mean a fair comparison.

Lest we forget that it wasn't against the rules to use steroids when he did?

Using steroids wasn't cheating, it was just dirty... much like plunking someone on purpose.

Honestly, thats like wanting to assult Christopher McDonald because he was a "jerk" as Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore.

But they were against the law. I think the law trumps the rules.

Bucfan should tone down his shameless homerism. Guy is on Bonds's jock every chance he gets.
