I guess I'm in the minority but I happen to think both are equally exciting, and I have a few nitpicks

4. The competition. Is there anyone who doesn?t believe that, in the end, the Pistons and Spurs will be playing for the NBA championship?

Well seeing as the Spurs didn't even make the conference finals, I don't believe it. And I also think the Heat can avenge last year and go on to lose to the Mavericks.

Since you?re a big NBA fan and all, you know the name of the NBA championship trophy, too, don?t you? Well, don?t you? Case closed.

Yes I do, the Larry O'Brian trophy, and no I didn't have to look it up.

8. The overtimes. Sure, you see the occasional NBA playoff game go into overtime, but it happens all the time in the NHL playoffs. A few years ago, the Penguins and Flyers went five OTs before deciding matters. Memo to NBA fans near and far who want to convince me that the hardwood is cooler than the ice: Find me an NBA playoff game that went five overtimes and we?ll talk. Provided, of course, you bring the beer.
10. The Cup. NBA players like seeing their names on the bottom of shoe contracts. With NHL players, it?s all about getting your name inscribed on the Stanley Cup, simply the coolest trophy in sports. Since you?re a big NBA fan and all, you know the name of the NBA championship trophy, too, don?t you? Well, don?t you? Case closed.

Yeah i agree with him. The NHL playoffs and players to me seem more down to earth

Doesn't visibility have something to do with this? The NHL games have been good, but I can't quite get past the fact I'm watching OLN and listening to mostly obscure announcers. It makes it seem kind of minor league, whereas the NBA is on ESPN and TNT and is broadcast by Marv Albert or Mike Breen.

And these NBA playoffs have been incredible.

??? Doc Emrick is basically Marv Albert when it comes to the NHL.

Mostly obscure

The hockey announcers are no more obscure in the hockey world than Breen in the basketball world. In fact I don't watch basketabll so I have no clue who Mike Breen is? In Hockey Emrick and Davidson have been top announcers for years. Just like a lot of the NBA announcers the both work for local teams as well as d the national games. Emrick does the Devils games and Davidson has been a color man for the Rangers for around 20 years. Both have done extensive work at the national level as well. They are the number 1 team for NBC and befoe that they were the number 1 team back when FOX had the rights.

The only reason why they are obscure to you is because you don't watch the sport. Just like how I couldn't pick Mike Breen out of a lineup to save my life.

Mike Emerick also has a God-awful annoying nasal voice. Gah!

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008

I couldn't watch much of the NHL because I was at school and my cable doesn't have OLN. I've only been able to watch in the last week and a half.

I do watch plenty of hockey when I get the chance.

(And I do know who Mike Emrick and John Davidson are.)

Let's seeee...

1. Don't agree. See Dwyane Wade and Dirk Nowitzki among others.

2. Hooray. Fights. Yeah, sorry. I tune in to watch them play, not take swings at eachother. Who watches JUST for a fight? Show me a good game instead.

3. This one's probably true, but I would still much rather see a see-saw battle in the NBA or even a blowout the entire 48 minutes than watch guys skate back and forth.

4. No Detroit or San Antonio? Well, how about that one Mr. Armstrong? Ok, it's not every year that the 2 favorites for a title in the NBA are eliminated, and it is pretty cool that any team - whether it be an 8 seed or 1 seed - can make a run at the Stanley Cup.

5. You will see a good amount of sportsmanship after a series in the NHL. I agree with this one.

6. Playoff games ARE every other night in the NBA. The only reason I can think of for there being 3 days between one game is so that both Conference finals start around the same time.

7. How many NBA fans are going to say that they actually care where players are from? Anyone? The majority of them don't, but the international players that ARE in the NBA make big impacts on their respective teams and the league (Dirk, Parker, Ginobili, Kirilenko, Nash, etc.)

8. More NBA games have gone into OT this postseason than any other year. Can you really knock them if they don't?

9. Officiating's been horrible all throughout the NBA playoffs with the exception of the conference finals.

10. Yes. I can name the trophy, actually.

The NBA playoffs have been better by far.

How so? Care to elaborate or go into detail?

Here's a rather large reason:

As competitive as the NHL can be (as far as lower seeds advancing), there have been 8 series that have gone no longer than 5 games. On the other hand, the NBA has had 8 series go longer than 5 games (including four game 7's) and have also been into OT a record number of times. This is one year the NBA playoffs HAVE been better than the Cup playoffs.

In any given year, the NHL playoffs are largely better. However the NBA playoffs really have been much better this year. There have been two 3-1 comebacks in the NBA, one all of the way back; there have only been two game sevens in the NHL, including the one on Thursday night. The final four teams in the NBA are big market clubs with star players; the NHL got stuck with two small markets in the east and, worst of all, a Canadian city in the west. Though Anaheim is part of the LA TV market, OLN is unavailable to half of it. NBC's got to be praying for a sweep; and that they don't set records for the two Carolina practices they'll hopefully be televising. The energy around the NBA playoffs has just been stronger.

Personally, i'd take the NFL and MLB playoffs over hockey and basketball any day. But thats just the kind of guy I am.

The number one reason the NHL playoffs are better than the NBA playoffs--overall-becasue this year they kind of suck because the FLames are out & the Oilers are still in--

1-Hockey is better than basketball.

Comic Sans walks into a bar, and the bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve your type here."

Yeah... it's kinda impossible for the NBA to be more exciting than the NHL. It is, well, the NBA. Nothing comes close to chasing the Stanley Cup. The NBA playoffs aren't even the most exciting event of their OWN sport. (March Madness is better by FAAAAAAR.)

You say there's been alot of series combacks and overtime games in the NBA playoffs. Are you trying to say there hasn't been in the NHL playoffs? Cause I could name plenty. There may not be many big name teams or players in the NHL playoffs, but the games have been just as exciting as ever.

I will say that the western conference has been sort of a disappointment in the NHL. Didn't really enjoy any of those series. (The Oilers are a great story, but just not that fun to watch in my opinion.) However, the East has been fantastic with all but a couple series being top class. The Rangers were a big bust though.

I admit it has been an off year for the NHL though. Personally I only think the NBA playoffs have been hyped up because they have 3-4 big markets in their final four. Whereas the NHL has... well... none.

The MLB probably has the best playoff format of all the leagues, but without a Chicago team, the Yankees, or the Red Sox they're nothing.

Which reminds me of a funny story when my friends and I were at a sports bar. Big group of us, about 15 people. NBA playoff game was on the big screen. Everyone in our group/area was watching paintball on the small TV. From time to time we would make fun of the NBA game though. Horribly boring game.
