If both were undefeated yes they should both be in the game.

See, undefeated maybe, but I still note that you should need to win your conference championship to have a shot at the national title. Thus, OSU and Florida still.

Well, see the teams are technically co-champions-so both won their Conference. (Better yet under the "Rose Bowl Rule" we have because the Big Ten isn't allowed to have a title game, Wisconsin would get the autobid.)

Gosh, I'd love the uproar and logical hemmings an hawings after that one

But would OSU have won the conference if Wiscosin beat Michigan. They both would have been 8-0. So it would be a split title right? So technically both would have "won" a part of the title.

No such thing in the Big Ten -- OSU would most likely have it due to the higher BCS ranking.

True. I think I remember some game a couple of years ago where one team went in having the worse record by 1 game, but if they beat that team, and pulled into a tie, they'd be declared Big Ten champs. It makes more sense than these dumb "tie for Conference championships." Bullsh-t. That's why I'm in favor of the Big Ten expanding to 12, if it makes them have a conference championship game.

Now, with that being said, justice was served on Sunday. The Florida Gators won the toughest conference in the nation (with 2 teams in the BCS, 3 teams in New Year's Day games, can you really argue???), compared to Michigan, who did not win their conference, and more importantly, already had their shot at Ohio St. And Mac2 brought up the best point of the argument, which was the fact that even if they had that game in Michigan, odds are Michigan still would've lost because they had that game there last year, and lost, so I'm not buying into the argument about "Oh, if they had it in Teh b1g h0uze, we woulda wonnned."

This is not to say Florida is going to win, because more than likely, they're going to get drubbed. OSU is the best team in the nation, hands down. Even though I was part of the camp that said that Michigan came within 3 pts of winning, I had to go back and realize that "Hm. I watched that whole game, and besides Michigan scoring first, there was no indication that Ohio St. was ever out of control of that game." So yeah, Michigan didn't take care of their business. They lost. Florida took care of their business. They won. They reap the benefits as a result. Hats off to the Gators, and, once again, justice was served IMO.

Big Ten does officialy recognize Co-champions. As stated above, the "Rose Bowl Rule" for lack of a better term is still the determinant of who gets the BCS autobid.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just brought this back up to see what you people think who were talking about how great the SEC was and how weak the Big Ten is. Saying Michigan's schedule was so much easier, and how overrated Wisconsin is. Well, Wisconsin beat Arkansas, and Penn State beat Tennessee, so what do you guys think now? Big Ten is 2-0 against the SEC that is supposed to be so great

Well, I guess I have but two teams to root for at this point: Boise State, and Florida. Gee, how fun it would be to have just one undefeated team at the end of the year, and not have them win the national title.

Well, Boise State is up 14-7 right now and they have the ball, but as much as I hate Ohio State, I still don't think Florida will win.

this Michigan loss makes the last ten pages of this topic worthless.

There were some of us who said all along that Michigan didn't deserve to go to Glendale. I guess USC proved us right. Michigan is a lot like Notre Dame; They look great against everyone except the good teams. Typical Michigan, lose to Ohio State then lose the bowl game. Same old song. How fast the mighty fall. Michigan went from being by far and away the best team in the country who was just "three points from proving it" to about number 7 in one afternoon. Maybe next year... :D

If Boise wins and the Buckeyes lose then I believe Boise has to be number one. The BCS won't see it that way but the AP can still vote them number one. I'd love it if someone had the guts to vote Boise State number one.

Well, I still think Boise State should have been in the BCS title game, then we wouldn't have to consider such a scenario ^_^

Is losing considered looking great?

Let me rephrase that. Michigan is a lot like Notre Dame. They beat up on lesser teams, rise in the rankings, then inevitably get their asses kicked by teams who actually are good and deserve their ranking. Hope that clears it up.

And as I have stated on several occasions, the OSU-Michigan game was nowhere near as close as the score would have you believe. Ohio State dominated that game. Hell, the Buckeyes gave the ball to Michigan three times and still won easily.
