I wouldn't mind seeing the white helmets come back.

I like the bolts on the shoulders.

I absolutely detest the number font. The shoulder numbers look too wide and sloppy next to the strip and bolt pattern. I am an old-school "varsity" style guy through and through. This futuristic crap that the Cards, Falcons, and now the Bolts are doing is ass ugly.

Oh, and I'm with the others who said the NFL Equipment logo is huge.

Your team... Thanks, LaDanian.

You are a fan of the team. Unless you work for the team, know your role.

Oh, my favorite argument in all of sports.

Wow. This has to be one of the least exciting uni releases in all of football. Its like the exact opposite of the Cards update. Months of speculation only to be dissapointed with crappy unis. This one had almost zero word and is looking great. Good work Chargers, good work.

Ya know, from the sound of things if they would replace the navy with purple they'd look a lot like the Birmingham Thunderbolds of the late great XFL.

Oh God. Hints of Craven in that one. At least you didnt say it B and S.

i absolutely detest these new uniforms. normally i like changes, as long as they look good. this is awful.

the number font is atrocious, i love the traditional block numbers for them, but they could have done better if they HAD to change. also, gone is the aestheically-pleasing navy/yellow/navy/white dynamic for the numbers in relation to the jersey. the navy/yellow/powder blue/white is just plain ugly. i hate the lightning bolt, the other one looked much cooler, and the fact that they moved it further down the arm looks stupid.

on top of all this, i am actually in a great mood. i just HATE these uniforms.

As I posted before, the bolt on the shoulders looks wrong. I understand the previous reference to Air Force but clearly that's not what they've done. It's a whole bolt but applied backwards. It looks silly.

One question about the white helmets, are we sure the bolt is yellow on the helmet considering their first look back in the AFL days?

Well, first off, I like the number font, at least from the "2" and the "1." Overall, I like the new set - but I don't know if I like it more than I do the Chargers' previous design. It reminds me of the eternal argument of navy vs. powder blue when it comes to the Bolts - it's hard to lobby for a change, no matter how good it looks, when what you've already got looks so damn good. I really think I've gotta let this one soak in, and see the complete sets from Wednesday's unveiling, before I can pass judgment.

One thing I can say I don't like about the new unis, though, is the bumping of the sleeve numbers up to the shoulders. Unfortunately, in the no-sleeve era of the NFL, this was pretty much a necessary move. The writing was on the wall last season when Philip Rivers was cutting his sleeves so short, the bottoms of the numbers were actually hanging off of them.

skyaa1 i would say yes we know it is yellowsd.png

it has a picture

http://www.chargers.com/news/headlines/cha...s-to-unveil.htm

The longstanding history of Chargers football began with Lance Alworth and John Hadl lighting up the American Football League in Powder blue jerseys and white helmets.

In the late 1970?s and early 80?s, Hall of Famers Dan Fouts and Kellen Winslow ushered in a new era in royal blue duds accented by blue helmets with a gold lightning bolt. The early 1990?s saw Junior Seau and Stan Humphries lead the Chargers to three playoff appearances in four years, including the 1994 AFC Championship while donning the white lightning bolts and a more consistent navy color scheme.

LaDainian Tomlinson and company have now brought a new attitude and legacy, and the team has made some minor changes to the logo and the uniform to give the new generation of Chargers stars their own look.

?All of those guys had their identity, their kind of uniform that made it unique for their teams,? Tomlinson said. ?Well, I think it is time for us to have our identity, with our jerseys. This is our era. We?ve got great guys on this team and this is going to be the San Diego Chargers for years to come. So I think it is only right to have our own new jerseys and create our own era and our own identity.?

The navy, gold and white that Chargers fans have grown accustomed to are still present. The changes begin with a redesigned lightning bolt, which serves as the team?s primary logo. The interior of the bolt is gold and outlined with layers of first powder blue and a navy exterior. The all caps ?CHARGERS? script is also receiving a makeover to a sleeker, futuristic look.

The redesigned bolt will be featured on a new metallic-white helmet. The three redesigned jerseys will follow the same color scheme as those in the past. The Chargers will continue to wear navy jerseys with white pants for most home games and white jerseys with navy pants on the road. The redesigned Powder blue jerseys with white pants will be worn on special occasions at home.

?We really love it,? said Jim Steeg, the Chargers? chief operating officer. ?The players that have seen it love it. And we think once people see the team in action, they?ll love it too.?

The main alteration to the jersey is that the new lightning bolt now stretches around the shoulder as opposed to over the top of it, a feature that Tomlinson is quite fond of.

?It kind of makes you look like you're bigger than what you are,? Tomlinson said. ?I know people always say, 'Well you look small.' Now I may look a little bigger. I think that?s going to help me hopefully score more touchdowns."

The team will officially unveil their new look at a private ?fashion show? next Wednesday. It?s the team?s first significant uniform alteration since 1988. In addition to LT, a handful of current players have seen the new look and are impressed.

?It?s unique,? quarterback Philip Rivers said. ?I think they give a uniqueness to this team?to our personality. It has all the same great colors, but it has been tweaked to fit this team. It?s really an honor that they?ve chosen our team to be the first to wear this new uniform.?

San Diego.com has a imteresting little write up describing the numbers as being only on the back of the helmet not on the side like the throwbacks. Also they say the pant stripe has a contoured look, too bad I thought they were going to break the trend of swooshy, waving pant stripes.

Here is the part of the story

This uniform is going to be a first of its kind,? Steeg said.

Made of a fabric that is form-fitting yet elastic, it has fewer grab points for opponents, so the Chargers anticipate being held less often. It also will be less restrictive for players because of its elasticity. The jersey also is lighter and has air vents.

The main colors remain the same ? with navy being worn for home games, white on the road and powder blue for two ?throwback? games. The bolt now wraps around the shoulder rather than being on top of the shoulder, and the numbers have moved from the biceps to the top of the shoulder. The collar is no longer a V-neck but is more rounded. Around the collar on the home jersey is a white fringe. On the away jersey, the fringe is blue. Below the collar, the word CHARGERS has been added.

The helmet is similar to the one the Chargers have worn for years with the ?throwback? powder blues. The bolt is simply the new design and the player's number will be in black on the back of the helmet above the neck.

The stripe on the pants stripe is wider, contoured, coming around from the rear. And the bolt has just two points instead of the current eight. Even now, minor changes are being made in the design.

Intereseting how they said changes are still being made. Also check out the names on the back just in plain white.

The pants in that picture don't appear to have the stripe coming around from the rear. I wonder if that is one of the changes that is in progress but hasn't been produced yet.

I'm totally digging the name / number font, and I think the single-color name is totally the way to go with these.

This looks to be a solid update. I like it.

I'm liking the idea of the white helmet coming back, if only for the reason that it well help distance them from Denver's helmet.

This change has stayed true to Chargers tradition and will help them stand out uniform-wise in the AFC West. I say upgrade on all fronts (just as long as the white jersey doesn't have a bib <cringes>).

That said I'm disappointed they're messing with the powder blues. They could have updated the primary home and road set and kept the powder blues alone. Part of their appeal was the throwback-ness of the set, especially the helmets. I would have left them untouched. I'm sure the new powder blue alternates will look great, but they won't be the same.

I don' like the blue stripe. you had to have it before because the bolt was white and it matched with what you had on the helmet. But with a white helmet/ yellow bolt and the white stripe with yellow bolt on the sleeve , you would have been better going with no stripe and just the yellow bolt on the white pants like the throw backs. Then you would have consistency all around. Also interesting no numbers on the side of the white helmet.

Whaaaaaa?!

So you caught that, too. I cringed when I read that. I hope to God that we do not have pants that look like lightning is coming out of the player's rear.

While I am happy they ditched the big numbers on the side, I think the bolt on the plain white helmet will look like it's missing something. The navy helmet was perfection.

2 shades of blue. I guess that must be the NFL's mandate these days (see Titans, Bills, Seahawks).

There are some things I like, such as bringing back the white shoulder panel, the yellow-gold bolt and keeping the offset gold outline around the numerals.

I hate the name being on the front of the jersey. It is just lame.

Will we still have navy pants to go with the white away unis? Facemask color?

To me, while I've always wanted to go back to the Fouts era unis, the ones we have now are perfect by comparison and I hate them being changed to this. All-in-all, I question the need for the throwbacks now. With the white helmet and addition of powder blue, it should just be a powder blue alternate.

I feel like they have bastardized my team. Sigh.

Your team... Thanks, LaDanian.

You are a fan of the team. Unless you work for the team, know your role.

I've never understood why people actually get upset with fans for saying things like "my team" and "we won". Does it really matter?
