Jungle Jim
I like the overall look of the new Dodgers road unis, with the solid blue logos and numbers. However, I have one small beef with it: I think the numbers on the back are too thin. I know that it is supposed to be the current style with the white layer removed from it, but to me they look too thin. I think that it would be better if they use numbers like the Royals use: the thicker style numbers. To me, that would look better.I love the Dodgers road changes, as well, but you're absolutely right. Compare the numbers on the front to the numbers on the back. It looks even worse in this direct comparison.
hecticbro
The old one was fine. The new one looks horribly dull, and dated by about 50 years.
FiddySicks
I hate the Dodgers and everything they stand for, but even I think the new road unis look terriffic. The old ones were too busy. These are perfect. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.)
BBTV
I'd like to know how many people thought that the blue buttons were a good idea. That was the second-worst thing about the old ones (the wordmark / patch being the first) (Yes, I know they played a year or two sans blue buttons, but still.)As previously stated, the new ones need thicker back numbers. IMO, a white outline on the script and name / numbers would be fine too, but not necessary. totc
The lack of a white outline is a fashion and a technological statement. White outlines were meant for television and night games. The lack of a white outline says to the public, "We're ready for HDTV."IMHO.NMSQT.SPQR.MIC.KEY.MMMMMOOOOOUUUUUSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!(no wait, that's The Franchise Formerly Known as The California Angels)
M59
At this point, they need to finish the job, and put the Dodgers back in flannel.
Chazberg
The old one was fine. The new one looks horribly dull, and dated by about 50 years.Precisely. If only we could gte evry team looking so classy...The new (old) roads look great, but yeah the back numbers could be thicker to match the front red ones. And I'd drop the "LA" sleeve patch too, it seems to be there just for the sake of having something there. Unecessary. Otherwise, awesomeness. I love seeing Juan Pierre wear the uniform, it is a beautiful thing to behold. charles-noerenberg.com
sacker12
I decided to come up with a quick drawing of what a white outline around the script, logo, and numbers would look like on the road jersey. Here it is.
Gothamite
Nice graphic, but no, thanks. Removing the white border was what elevates this new road uniform into the top levels of baseball. The white border is ungainly and distracting. It isn't needed, which is a good reason to kill it. sacker12
In that case, here is what the current road jersey would look like with the thicker numbers in the back.
Gothamite
See, now that's just about perfect. Thanks! The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
jkrdevil
See, now that's just about perfect. Thanks!I disagree the white border makes the scripts, lettering, and numbers stand out and more readable. I think think it needs the white border. Without it is is blue on gray which is harder to read.
Gothamite
Maybe with that graphic, but not on the field, and not on television. Look at the pic - there's no legibility problem there. LEWJ
If they didn't get rid of the front piping, they would be perfect. (IMO) | BROWNS | BUCKEYES | CAVALIERS | INDIANS |
totc
I disagree the white border makes the scripts, lettering, and numbers stand out and more readable. It makes it easier to read in dim lights in cavernous football stadia used for baseball, and for analog TV. It's perfect for halogen-lit retro baseball parks and for HDTV. Gothamite
I don't think you'll have any problem on analog television. I certainly don't have a problem reading them on my twelve-year-old, crummy, decidedly non-HDTV television. As for in a stadium, I'll let you know after they've been to Shea. I try to see the Dodgers when they come to town just to cheer against them.I think the legibility argument is highly over-rated. Whatever did the poor souls do, who were forced to suffer through games at the Polo Grounds unable to tell the players apart, for lack of proper number outlining? bulldogbarks55
I like the fact that they removed the white outline. To me it was too "1970s" and THAT made it dated. The back numbers should be wider. And while we're at it, the Tigers and Yankees should both lose the white outline around the lettering and the Yanks the pukey sleeve trim on their road greys. And even though I hate the frckin' Bronx Bumblers their road and home uniforms should use the Dodger-style numeral font (thicker) like they did in the '50s. Those are the Yankees I grew up hating. But they LOOKED like the REAL Yankee uniforms.
Gothamite
I have a secret hope that they'll do just that when they move into the New New Yankee Stadium. It would be the perfect time to tweak the look, return it to greatness.Won't be long - we'll know in two years. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. njmeadowlanders
I'm with lots of you: Widen the back numbers, and lose the "LA" and you have perfection...
powersurge
I just love the uniform...period. It is a true classic with or without the piping. In the end less is more I think. I just wish the Mets would understand that.
