Andruw Jones is a Dodger for 2 years, $36 million

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...7&fext=.jsp

While I'm happy that we have him now, I'm not so stoked about having TWO overpaid center fielders. But at least Andruw has defense and power, and he isn't exactly a snail.

Be ready for a K every other at bat for this guy...He either swings for the fences or misses spectacularly. Good luck with that.

We pretty much already had that with Juan Pierre.... either a strikeout or a harmless groundout. I welcome the change in CF. An OF of Matt Kemp, Andruw Jones and Andre Ethier? Not the '27 Yankees, but not exactly chopped liver either.

Wow. So the Dodgers just keep adding to the arsenal of talent they've been picking up the past few seasons, and the biggest move the Giants are rumored to make is their top pitcher for a mid level outfielder. Oh great. I see yet another long and miserable season for bay area baseball fans.

You call Andruw Jones a positive addition to that arsenal of talent?

FYI -- The best move the Giants have made this year thus far was not re-signing Bonds. At least the organization can move on to a new era now.

The only real positive last year about Andruw was the fact that he was still a defensive god in CF. Offensively, he had a horrible year, adjusting his swing about 50,000,000 times and none yielding much success.

$18 Million per year for a guy who batted .222 with 20 HR's last season.

Are the Dodgers :censored: ing insane?!

It's actually worth the risk.

It's only a 2-year deal, so they aren't burdening themselves. They get a guy who's probably been the best defensive CF for the past 10 years and has produced a slew of 30-HR, 100-RBI seasons in his career.

Young outfielder, two-time all-star, hit the most home runs in the HR derby last year (in San Francisco!)... how is that "mid level"??

If he played in San Francisco you'd be pimping him as the best player in the league.

The San Francisco Giants are considering trading pitcher Tim Lincecum to the Toronto Blue Jays for Alex Rios.

Brian Sabean should be fired on the spot if he makes that trade. Lincecum is a stud.

I wouldn't fire the guy, but I agree with your general feeling on the trade. While Rios will absolutely be a premiere outfielder, you can't beat good pitching. Lincecum has the chance to establish a really nice one-two punch out in San Fran along with Matt Cain (I'm throwing Zito out the window since I have no faith in him anymore).

For the type of numbers Lincecum is supposed to produce, and for the type of numbers Cain is already producing they seem to pretty much be the Giants last hope of being a really successful team down the road. Both dont have brilliant numbers as of yet, but thats mainly because they have played on some absolutely horrible teams.

And with the Andruw Jones trade, he may not have been the best candidate out there in CF, but at least the Dodgers are doing SOMETHING. It's really more than I can say for San Francisco.

Scott Rolen wants a trade.

I'm all for it...provided the Cardinals get pitchers in exchange for him.

Lincecum is going to be a good one. His control would worry me a bit. He's had high BB/9 rates at every level he's pitched at. And going to the AL East, the Yankees and Red Sox would eat him alive if he can't locate.

Since Mattingly is a coach, he can teach Andruw patience at the plate (similar to Jason Giambi in 2005 when he won Comeback Player of the Year honors).

Plate patience isn't typically something you develop at 31-32 years old. Giambi's been an OBP machine his entire career. In fact, he had more walks in each of his last two years in Oakland than he did in any one season in New York.
