...more of the Chargers

Someone tell me if I'm insane (completely possible) but I remember the Chargers wearing the Royal jersey with the GOLD NUMBERS together with the white pants... at least for a game or two.

Crazy?

Actually they did for two seasons from 1985 to 1986, and for the '87 set, they started using white numbers. The latter set was only a precursor to the 1988-2006 set.

STOP RIGHT THERE!

If I'm seeing that helmet logo right on the guy in white (#46), that's the...the Raiders???

So wait...the Raiders a/ had striped socks back in them days? And even stranger than that...black front/back jersey numerals and silver TV numbers??? How come no mention's ever been made of that before?

I just learned something new today!

1968:

Ah...Marlon Briscoe! One of these days I WILL get that cat's jersey! That's history right there...first black guy to start a pro game AT QB (even though right here it looks like he's taking a handoff...end-around, perhaps?). I know the guy eventually went on to become a nice WR...but still, cat wanted to be and was (for a short time) a QB first.

BTW...I just right-click-stole half these pictures here!

Don't forget that the Chargers had navy pans sans-bolt in the early / mid '90s. I'm trying to find a picture, but I remember noticing that back when I collected football cards and wondered why.
