The Two Escobars was awesome. Looking forward to the replays of the Hank Gathers story and Reggie Miller vs. the Knicks.

I've yet to see a 30 in 30 film that was "meh".

I'd say the worst one I've seen is the beginning of fantasy baseball.

Surprisingly, I agree. I liked it at the time, but compared to the others it hasn't measured up. The reenactments were just so cheesy.

Just watched 'The Two Escobars' on the DVR. That was incredible. Stunning imagery, great story, and haunting in that I knew the ending of both guys. You had the juxtaposition of the soccer player who by all accounts was a wonderful person versus the drug lord. You had the juxtaposition of the drug lord versus his own reputation. The poor loved him for his generosity, the rest of the country hated him for the violence and how the rest of the world viewed Columbia in his image. If you have a couple of hours I suggest you watch this one.

Wow, a thread mentioning ESPN that hasn't resulted in "ZOMG, ESPN iz teh suxxxorzzz!!@#$%324535" That's different?

I'm loving this series. I can't honestly pick a "best" out of the bunch. All to often, we look at the last one as the best because we just saw it, but "The Two Escobars" :censored:ing rocked it. It was quite chilling to see the footage of the two men's bloodied lifeless bodies just lying there. I was a little miffed how it sort of presented Pablo as a sympathetic figure at the end, kind of linking him in martyrdom with Andres at the hands of the evil PEPEs. If ever any mother:censored:er deserved the fate he received, it was Pablo Escobar.

Anyway, they are really outdoing themselves with each successive flick. I honestly doubt The Birth of Big Air will be able to live up to The Two Escobars, but I didn't think that would live up to June 17, 1994...so what do I know? :P

And that is why many posters here have to watch the documentary, "Hunting Pablo Escobar".

The editing of game footage was very mixed in between games and years, but I enjoyed it. Andres Escobar's sister...keepin' it together.

Actually it is called "Killing Pablo" and it airs on A&E. Which is also a book that will be made into a movie directed by Joe Carnahan. And it's a pretty good documentary. The guy was such an over-the-top SOB that he needed such an over-the-top death. As far as "The Two Escobars" goes I have it on DVR and will see it soon. Can't wait for the Bartman film

The National Geographic series "Situation Critical" has two episodes titled, Hunting Pablo Escobar.

The only two I've had the opportunity to see are the Len Bias and Reggie Miller ones. The Reggie Miller one was absolutely incredible, I really loved it. The Len Bias one wasn't bad, but I just can't say I really got into it like I did the Reggie one. (Sorry i'm not using titles, it's been so long that I honestly cant remember the names). From what ive heard, the rest of the lineup that has come out so far has been spectacular. It sounds like ESPN has done a really great job with 30 in 30.

30 for 30's fall lineup has been announced: http://es.pn/bQS4r9

They all look great, but I'm looking forward to this one in particular:

Once Brothers

Director: NBA Entertainment

Summary:

Drazen Petrovic and Vlade Divac were two friends who grew up together sharing the common bond of basketball. Together, they lifted the Yugoslavian National team to unimaginable heights. After conquering Europe, they both went to America where they became the first two foreign players to attain NBA stardom. But with the fall of the Soviet Union on Christmas Day 1991, Yugoslavia split up. A war broke out between Petrovic's Croatia and Divac's Serbia. Long buried ethnic tensions surfaced. And these two men, once blood brothers, were now on opposite sides of a deadly civil war. As Petrovic and Divac continued to face each other on the basketball courts of the NBA, only hatred passed between the two. Then, on the fateful night of June 7, 1993, Drazen Petrovic was killed in an auto accident. Once Brothers will tell the gripping tale of these two men, how circumstances beyond their control tore apart their friendship, and whether Divac has ever come to terms with the death of a friend before they had a chance to reconcile.

Agreed, I'm really looking forward to that one.

So I'm watching "The Birth of Big Air", the story of how Mat Hoffman revolutionized the BMX sport. This is incredible, it really goes into depth about Mat's career, his many close calls with death, and his close frienship with his hero, Evel Kinevel. The things that guy could do on a bike.....it leaves you speechless.

I'm only halfway through it and I already recommend it. I never realized how much one guy could elevate, resurrect, and dominate a sport like he could.

The Matt Hoffman one was good, but I wasn't blown away. It did a swell job of capturing his talent and his desire and drive to do things that nobody had ever done before. My problem with it was that it was similar to so many other documentaries that I've seen about action sports.

I think it was just the story that made me like it so much. I totally admit that the producing wasn't as good as the other ones, but the story was really cool. It was like it was telling the history of BMX in it's enitrety - Hoffman had so much to do with the growth and development of the sport that you can trace him to nearly every innovation and steps forwards that make BMX (and possibly even the X-Games for that matter) what it is today. That to me is just awesome.

A bump after 18 months as ESPN Films will reboot the series starting in October.

Looking to build on the momentum for its docu division, ESPN will present a second edition of films in its "30 for 30" documentary showcase in October. Among the titles ESPN unveiled Tuesday at its Gotham upfront are "Benji," about Chicago high school basketball phenom Ben Wilson; "Broke," a look at what happens when athletes make bad financial investments; and "Bo Knows," a look at former football and baseball player Bo Jackson.

"We're proud to have created a brand that has become synonymous with quality sports storytelling, and we see value in bringing back a second collection of 30 films," said ESPN Films veep Connor Schell.

A film on the 1983 NC State championship team will also be made.

In addition, ESPN will produce more short films (I think there already is one on Pete Rose) and nine short films surrounding the 40th Anniversary of Title IX.

It's about time they bring it back because I get a kick out of seeing the 30 for 30 docs. I loved 'The Two Escobars' because of the story of these two men and how everything was woven into by the drug money.

I know it's probably not part of the main 30 for 30 line, but if you get the chance, watch 'Pony Excess'. It's my favorite of the bunch because it was such a huge story at the time, and to see how it all went down was very interesting to say the least.

As for the new bunch: Bring on the film about Jimmy V's Miracle Wolfpack. :)

Great to hear ESPN is renewing this series. In fact, I just finished watching my personal fave, "June 17th, 1994".

That one was crazy, wasn't it? To think ALL THAT happened on the same day? Man...that was wild.

I think my personal favorites were Pony Excess and Run Ricky Run. The former precisely because of what seadeagon said, the latter because Ricky Williams has long been one of the most interesting people I've seen and read about.

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

They are all great, but Jordan Rides the Bus is my personal favorite. It's crazy to think that without the strike in 1994 the biggest legend in basketball history (some would even argue sports history) may have never happened because he felt compelled to follow his father's dream for him.

If you have a chance order the DVD for the Two Escobars. It had a short film covering the USA team going into the game. It's more like a home movie. And also shows their reactions after the heard Andres was murdered. The other stuff that's included is simply extended portions of the movie that add a little more info.
