lopernv
ha, maradona never fails to amuse me - the sad thing is, is that his poor coaching is hurting the national squad - with the talent they have they should be one of the favourites to win it all in south africa, but i have a hard time believing that after their poor shows in qualifying. however, talent never fails and i wouldnt be surprised if they did go deep into the tournament (much like Germany in 2002 who just slipped into the tournament) - conversely a early bow out in group stages isn't too far fetched and would definitely spell the end for maradona as the national coach.i just want this shabang to start already! With Cambassio and Zanetti out of the line up they're making it harder for themselves. Still favourites, but I have no idea why Maradona wouldn't include them.---------Excited for this guy. Força.

NEW.ERA
A lot of questionable picks for a lot of teams squads for this year. Guess it goes to show how good some of these national teams youth programs are.

falcons007
not a good sign for portugal - especially after they only qualified after winning in a playoff. Furthermore, being in the "group of death" with Ivory Coast and Brazil may spell an early exit for pretty boy Ronaldo - who i have a feeling isnt 100%

That team underachieved like crazy during qualifying (same with France, but at least Portugal didn't cheat to get in). No reason as to why a team with all of that talent should be struggling against the teams that they are. Conventional thinking says that they are going to get bounced out pretty quickly next month...but it's the World Cup. Who knows?
NEW.ERA
Czech Republic just took the lead over the US in an American tune up game.Looks like the Czech's will get the better end of the US just like they did in Germany 4 years ago, But still lots of time to go. Given Portugal's 19th and 20th Century colonial history, probably homicidal fury.

It was all good for about 44 minutes, then it all went to hell after that. Then again, I have to keep telling myself "This isn't the final squad. This isn't the final squad. This isn't the final squad." I'm hoping that by the time we get our actual squad in, a lot of questions & concerns will be answered. But yeah, as of right now, our defense is nowhere near ready. Hopefully that'll change quickly.
-kj
Keep in mind that most of the likely starters were sitting in the press box last night.Say all you want about Ching--I've always said I've never been sold on him--but the man has eleven goals in forty-four international appearances. That's not a bad strike rate.
