Bills confirm new uniform for 2011

Looking at the standing buffalo logo I notice that it looks extremely similar to the old Buffalo nickel.

Anyone know if this may be where the inspiration for where the old logo came from? If so, I like it better than the streaking buffalo, if for nothing more than the historical link.

Isn't that why the Bills added "nickel" as one of their colors?

Anyways, the standing buffalo on the buffalo nickel is a lot stronger a mark than the standing buffalo the Bills used. The one the Bills used looks like a calf compared to the buffalo nickel.

The buffalo nickel was the obvious inspiration for the Bills' old logo. Interestingly, when the old AAFC Buffalo Bisons were looking to change their nickname (eventually becoming the original Buffalo Bills), the runner-up entry was the Buffalo Nickels. Others considered were the Buffalo Bullets and Buffalo Blue Devils.

Beautiful. I could see that done in red and slight shades of red (to match the silver on silver look with detail). That is well done.

No ... at the start of the AFL in 1960 and 1961 the Bills wore Honolulu-like blue (similar to Detroit's) as home jerseys with nickel-colored player numbers, silver helmets bearing player numbers.

In 2002, then-GM Tom Donahoe when explaining the concept of the new uniforms stated that while adding the midnight-navy as primary, they decided to use colors from all era's.

That reasoning which included having nickel in the color scheme was ridiculous, and we all saw the result of that uniform change. gross.gif

Putting nickel into the color scheme in 2002 just because the home jersey numbers were that color in AFL seasons 1 & 2 was beyond all logic .... just as that entire uniform set was.

The buffalo nickel was the obvious inspiration for the Bills' old logo.

I thought there was a famous statue of a buffalo in their train station that inspired the original silhouette. Or was that taken from the nickel as well?

There have been many bison statues around Buffalo over the years. The nickel was introduced in 1913. The Central Terminal opened in 1929, and featured a stuffed bison in the concourse, later replaced by a plaster cast bison.

You might be right that the logo was inspired by the statue, but I would have to lean toward the nickel being the inspiration. The buffalo nickel is an iconic image, plus the fact that the logo (by itself, not on a helmet) is usually shown facing left, as does the nickel bison.

Well if it's any consolation, most buffalo nickels nowadays look pretty worn out, much like the one on the right in this picture

It almost makes me wonder if Ralph Wilson, while trying to pick a new logo, pulled out a handful of change, found a worn out nickel, and said, yeah we'll go with that.

I'm going to the Bills-Bears game on Saturday---

what are the odds they wear BLUE PANTS on the road at Soldier Field?

Will they go all-white on the road?????

All white in Chi-town

:angered::censored: :censored: :ghostface::blues: :blues: :argue::cursing::cry::puke:

..

Agreed . . BILLS will wear all-white in Chicago and again the following week in Denver. Hopefully at least with black shoes.

After 2 straight preseason games on the road in white-white-white it's very likely that even more fans and players too will be making their voices heard for the blue away pants.

So the big question will be ...... will they surprise us like the ESPN Uni-Watch writer predicted and pop out the blue pants for the season opener in Kansas City. praying%20smiley.gif

Is your font/color choice here an attempt to influence them or just compensation in case they don't? :D

Nobody has any comment about the possibility of an electronic helmet* surface or wrap that would allow for animated logos?

* for you, Ice Cap :P

What are the odds we first see the blue pants with the blue jerseys?

. >

Jeff ... even these current goons upstairs can't possible be that stupid....

The last time they went all (navy) blue, it was allegedly "up to the players."

I am watching the Bills vs. Bears game, and the Bills new unis look great! Of course, they would look better with blue pants...I am flipping channels over to the Toronto Argonauts vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats game and the Argos white over blue scheme really pops.

One other change I would make for the Bills would be to get rid of the navy blue outline around the numbers...the red works nicely with the royal blue, but gets lost against the navy.

I can haz sig?
