Baseball is not an individual sport in any capacity. The players are in constant communication and interaction with one another. Pitchers and catchers and defense must be in sync. If someone misses a sign the game could be lost. Pitchers will pitch to a batter based on who the next batter is. Double steals, hit and runs, double plays. The game of baseball is full of interaction. One player does not make a team but his absence can effect how everyone else is set up in the lineup and how they are pitched to. In baseball (at least the National League) a player will bunt to give himself up for a teammate. Tell me again how this is an individual sport?

My guess is anyone who has actually played organized baseball as well as the vast majority of the members here know this and agree 100%. The only person who doesn't seem to get it is BBTV and I'd bet a substantial part of my salary that the guy has never played the game. At least not at any level past Little League for 10 year olds.

Dear Cubs, just call it a season, please. Shut it down for the sake of all baseball, nobody should have to watch this junk.

Good god, 8-0 (and counting) in the 4th

Yet they are still somehow 5 games up on the Astros.

EDIT: Are you kidding me? The Cubs just cored 8 unanswered runs and tied it up on a Carlos Pena HR. Alrighy then

This is an anomaly.

I just thought that I'd mention that I will be in attendance tomorrow night as Derek Jeter has a legitimate chance at reaching 3000. Jeter is my all time favorite player because he was the first one that I idolized, and I have already seen his 2000th career hit and his all time Yankee leader hit. So seeing number 3000 would basically complete the cycle. Other than being a great thing to see in person as only a small number of people have, it means a lot more to me because of how I look up to him. I just hope that he can get the two hits that he needs and gets there. It would really suck if he only gets one or zero hits. But I really think that he can do it.

I was going to say this in my previous post above, it reminds me of a Mets-Nats game that I went to back in 2005 in Shea Stadium. The Mets jumped out to an 8-0 lead after 3 innings and then in the last three innings the Nationals scored 8 runs to tie it. The Mets eventually won on a walkoff. I have no idea why I remember all of that game, except being fascinated that there was a new team in the MLB.

Edit: I was right about that game- Livan Hernandez Vs. Pedro Martinez, those were the days. Here's the boxscore

I've never been enamored with the "round number" milestones. 500 HR, 3000 Hits, stuff like that really doesn't mean that much to me. Derek Jeter is the 28th player to get 2988, 2989, 2990, etc. hits. When he passes someone (which he will at 3001), then I take note. I was more impressed with Griffey when he passed Frank Robinson with 587 HR, than I was when he his some mystical round number at 600...

Just sayin'...

Apparently a Rangers fan has died at tonight's game. The Morning News doesn't say much at this point, but it seems the fan went over the railing trying to catch a foul ball Josh Hamilton threw into the stands. Sad.

It was one year ago yesterday that Tyler Morris fell 30 feet at Rangers Ballpark and survived.

I went to the Orioles Red Sox game at Fenway tonight. Fenway is a pretty nice park, but it didn't impress me nearly as much as Wrigley. But the history is certainly there. Red Sox hit back to back to back homers one inning and I have to wonder if any of those hits would've left any other park in the bigs. That place certainly is small, and the setup is pretty unique. Great time overall. Citizens Bank on Sunday to complete the trip, I've heard good things about CBP so far so I'm excited to see it.

Yeah man, I just read the story. His 4 year old son was with him at the game, apparently. Such an awful tragedy. I hope Hamilton's doing okay along with the guy's family.

Yeah! Go, Cubs, go!

But what an awesome game to witness first hand. Cubs are down 8-0 in the fourth, and came back to win. I was just finishing saying how much I like Blake DeWitt when he hit that bomb off the foul pole. In the 8th inning, Cubs fans were chanting "Go, Cubbies, go!" (including myself) and even the Nationals' fans' boos couldn't drown out us Cubs fans (and we were way outnumbered).

Today, I am proud to be a Cubs fan (for once). :P

Wow, I just saw the story, how sad really. My prayers go out to that family tonight. That's just a terrible thing to have to deal with. And I also feel bad for Hamilton, that's got to be tough to deal with knowing that you were the one who threw the ball.

WHY IS THAT OPENING NOT COVERED BY SOMETHING????

Are you freaking kidding me? The guy fell into a gap that shouldnt even be there. I would love to know the reason behind leaving that gap behind the wall. That is just horrible. Very sad
