Brave Bird's NFL Nike Redesign

Brave-Bird 08

Here's my next concept series to take on. I've taken the latest and simplest Nike football template and will redesign all 32 team's uniforms. Don't expect crazy baselayers, gimmicky color additions and weird sublimated designs. What you will see is my best attempt at trying to completely optimize each team's visual identity.

And here we go.

Atlanta Falcons

- I used to complain about Atlanta's red home uniforms, but they've now grown on me. There are three things I don't like about the Falcons uniforms. For one, I don't like how they wear all white on the road. It's a soft and boring look. Two, I don't like how generic their sleeve design is. It's not sharp enough of an orientation. And three, I'm not a fan of the fact they dropped the all-black alternate. I also do not like the side piping that trickles from the armpit to the pants. So, I went in and fixed all of those things. Dropping the custom number font and wordmark would be a mistake as well...anytime a team has a unique element it must stay, as long as it isn't insanely distracting. Also, I'm pulling a page from the NFL/NBA book and using city names for road jersey wordmarks. The sleeve design, which goes with the pants stripe to echo the Falcons crest detail, alternates to pair up with the designated home and road pants.

This is the exact same project I'm working on now...are we telepathically connected or something? At least mine won't be up for awhile, I'm gonna finish the whole league before I start posting.

Moving on to the concept, I really like it. Good job keeping the same style but simplifying the look. Can't wait to see more!

this is a fantastic update! I love love love the simplification/refinement of the sleeves, its very effective. I also really dig using the city name on the chest of the away jersey. nice touch. Did you consider a red alt helmet at all? it might look cool...just food for thought.

The blurb of text also really helps to convey the design intent with is a major plus, thanks for that. great job. keep em comin

@mau

I'm actually trying to make really tight, concrete designs. Less variations, and likely one helmet for each team (aside from occasional throwbacks). I'm not a big fan of a lot of different combinations of uniforms for NFL teams, so one of my goals is to enhance each team's identity with very specific and designated home, road, and tertiary combinations. That's why there is no red helmet, though I almost used red instead of black.

gotcha. thats probably a good idea. especially since the NFL has their own strict uniform rules. thanks for clarifying

New Orleans Saints

-The Saints uniforms have always been so bland to me. I've hated how the pants stripes on the gold pants and helmet stripes don't match, and I also hate the leotard look they wear so often with the white jerseys or black jerseys on top of plain black pants. I figured black pants are unnecessary, especially in a division with a lot of black in the team's color schemes. So, I designate gold pants as the main option in the home and road uniform--the way it should be. The striping pattern is meant to be completely consistent, and also is modeled after LSU's uniforms. The new crest logo is a modern update of the original crest logo the Saints had in the 60s. This uniform is meant to add that real "French quarter" feel.

I really like the Saints. The shoulder loops look good, and I like that number font for them. And the gold jersey looks REALLY sweet.

I'm not a fan of the chest patch though. They just don't work very well on the Pro Combat/Speed Machine template. Also, I'd be curious to see how gold numbers look on the home uni, and how black would look on the gold alt (to match the fleur-de-lis).

And I also am limiting teams to three uniform combinations in my redesign...we're definitely telepathic.

That Falcons concept is great and I like you believe their all-white road uniform is too bland. The black pants would make their set so much better. As far as the Saints, I agree that the Gold pants should be their only choice, however, the striping on the jersey seems weird to me, maybe it is because they come down too far on the chest. Other than that, I am looking forward to seeing more nice concepts from you.

I agree with this reply...(well for the most part). It would be interesting to see if you reversed the numbers and outline colors (gold numbers on the home/away and black for the gold). Where I disagree is that I actually like the shield but it seems like something is missing. Maybe putting "New Orleans" over the Saints font in the shield. Anyway, these are both great designs and I wish Nike did these type of alterations for when they "take over" the NFL.

I'm guessing that you'll be finishing the division(in regards to the teams you post next)?

Carolina Panthers

-I figured for a team that has never had a uniform change, the Panthers could use a kick in a new visual direction. I decided to embrace a new color scheme, switching from electric blue to more of a creamy, true "Carolina" blue. I also took silver out of the logo and uniforms to give a cleaner, newer look. Carolina blue and white take over as the main focus of the home uniform, while the road uniform brings in more black. I made a new number font to replace the block font, and also incorporated the crescent of South Carolina to better represent both states.
