The Leafs, save for that St. Pats interlude, have always worn blue and white. Blue sweaters are an integral part of the Leafs' identity, which stretches back to the founding of the NHL (or even further back if you want to go back to other Toronto teams that wore blue and white before the Arenas/Leafs franchise was founded in 1917). The Leafs can wear blue and white because they're the Leafs. That's what they wear. The Lightning? They're ninety four years to late to that party. And mess up the entire point of a throwback?If they're going to take the 1967 crest and throw the current alternate mark on the shoulders, they should do more to distinguish it from the 1967-1970 jerseys and make it their primaries. Almost all of these match ups look excellent. I think it has a lot to do with how big the stripes/elements are on almost all of these uniforms. Lots of color. The only ones I haven't liked are the match ups involving the Sharks, Blues and Flames and the thing that those sweaters all have in common is that they have thin third-color stripes (orange, yellow, and yellow and black, respectively.) There wasn't enough of said third color to make it a major part of the jersey, but it was enough to 'interrupt' the other colors.There's a lot to be said for the colors in the NHL. There are so many vivid or bright colors. Red. Royal blue. Orange. Kelly green. Yellow as a secondary color. And a majority of the color combinations have a great deal of contrast or are two of those bright, bold colors. Royal blue and red. Black and yellow. Kelly green and royal blue.
