Oh so after one game we can start planning for April. Think realistically damnit. "Oh boy, they're still the Thrashers" Just shut up about it, the Thrashers were run by idiots like Don Waddell. These are the Jets, a much smarter organization.

But the same team

Yes I know, the Thrashers weren't that bad of a team, they're young and probably have a good future ahead. Winnipeg is full of smart hockey fans that know it's going to be tough, but win or lose they'll fill the building every night. Something the Jets players didn't see to often in Atlanta, they'll enjoy coming to work everyday.

I was looking at the roster, not the first game. The first game means nothing. Pointing out that the players make the team, not the loudness of the fans is a point multitudes have forgot.

When the teams only moves have been adding the "talent" I posted above I can't see what makes them smarter quite yet. Shut up about that.

I'm not sure just how long it took to build Rome, but from what I know, it took longer than a day.

Their objective now is to field a low-payroll team while demand is at its most inelastic, fortifying the teams' finances for down the road and setting the stage for building from within, something they couldn't do with Morin and this year's second going to Chicago. That's smart. Leaving flunkies like Waddell, Dudley, and Ramsay in Atlanta: also smart. Sounds like someone's speaking on behalf of the NASCAR Division.

What?

CBC has lost all of my, and alot of peoples respect this evening by taking shots and insults at Atlanta fans.

"You know you are in Winnipeg because the fans recognize something that should not be a penalty and is called as such."

"They know the game, and they'll hold the players accountable."

He's basically calling us retards. Classless. Absolutely classless.

BigMac's posts make me want to punch babies.

Hockey is weird and I love it.

What?

The whole "HERP DERP, ATLANTA FANS DIDN'T EVEN KNOW ANY OF THESE GUYS FIRST NAMES HERP DERP THEY PROBABLY THINK HOOKING IS WHAT HAPPENS DOWNTOWN" shtick that they went into around the middle of the 2nd period. It was a cheap shot, as if we haven't had enough of those already, and they totally ignored the fact that the ownership & management in this town probably weren't fit enough to run a pee-wee team, much less an NHL team in a decent-sized market. It's that elitist (and damn near revisionist) attitude from the Canadian media that's keeping me from pulling for the Jets, although I love those players.

But do we know that theyre a smarter organization? Waddell ran that team into the gutter, we all know that, but Craig Ramsey was a good coach who got alot out of that team last year and they just discarded him and barely told him his standing. That wasnt a great start. They didnt really wade into the free agent market in any significant capacity. The front office doesnt really have to market the team. I dont think its right to say theyre a smarter organization than the Thrashers were at this point in time. Right now, theyre still the Thrashers with more, louder fans.

Neither of your quotes calls anyone a retard. He's not calling you anything, because most people in greater Atlanta do not get the CBC. You're only interpreting it that way because you're dropping in on something that's not meant for your eyes or ears and selfishly thinking it's a shot at you and your ilk. Of course they're going to say that the fans are vocal and know their game. They do! What would you like them to say instead? Hope you never watch Knicks games, where crowds are rightfully praised for being more sophisticated about basketball than the average NBA town that needs sponsorship races and Pavlovian training to give a damn about anything.

Sorry that the Canadian telecast was excited about the Canadian team playing a Canadian sport. You want class, go to a Cardinals game.

I would first like to say, again, that it sucks how you lost your team. You, myself, and everyone not named Gary Bettman knows it should have been the Coyotes moving (back) to Winnipeg, not the Thrashers.

Ok. Now with that out of the way, it's in no way "elitist" or "revisionist" to claim that your average sports fan in Winnipeg is more knowledgeable/passionate about hockey then your average sports fan in Atlanta. Sorry, that's just how it is. If the Thrashers had more fans like you and Blueland over there then the team might still be in Atlanta. Thing is they didn't, and they aren't.

If anything here counts as "revisionist" it's the notion that the Atlanta Spirit group's bumbling is the only reason the Thrashers left. Fact is the Thrashers had problems drawing fans and tv ratings, as well as problems finding a stable niche in the Atlanta sports scene. Yeah, the Atlanta Spirit were terrible NHL owners, but lets not sit here and pretend that their bumbling drove away a dedicated, loyal fanbase. That fanbase, outside of a few diehards, didn't exist. Which is, at least partly, why they're playing north of the 49th right now.

Remember, this is the same guy who thought Wayne Gretzky snubbed him because he instinctively knew he was a "southern hockey fan."

I just find it funny that someone assumes that Gretzky has a sixth sense that allows him to detect fans of sunbelt hockey teams and that he would then use that power to be a jerk to said fans. I mean Gretzky should be the last person a diehard southern fan should hate. His overrated stint in Los Angeles is part of the reason why there's NHL hockey in southern cities in the first place.

Outside of "hey we can get in on this real-estate trend too guys, call Gary!"

I mean, I'm not trying to say that the entire Atlanta fanbase wasn't ignorant (I mean, let's be real: Some people here in Atlanta were celebrating the departure of the Thrashers, mainly because they either disliked the sport for some strange), but I'm just saying that the guys representing CBC didn't have to just run down everybody like they did. If that's how they really felt, then cool. However, they didn't need to broadcast that out to a continent-wide audience that included the fans who are now sans local NHL team. I'm just saying, you'd think they'd be a little bit more compassionate considering the fact that this happened in reverse to this town not too long ago.

So yeah, I'm not mad at them for their opinion, nor am I trying to paint it as if we as fans were completely out of the wrong here. Despite the fact that we easily had bottom-5 ownership in the league & would've been dopes to the casual fan to support such a bad product, we as fans should've at least done our part by showing up. I'm just saying that they could've done a better job of not coming off as blowhards in a situation where they're supposed to be neutral.

Eh, I'm still a little miffed at losing my team, so excuse me if I (& the rest of the loyal fans) get a little bit sensitive about what we perceive as adding insult to injury.

...wat. I'm pretty sure Gretzky is one of the last people I'd suspect to be biased against sunbelt hockey teams. Gretzky is basically why there's teams in this part of the country now. Haha, oh wow.
