Kramerica Industries
I consider myself a huge fan of argyle designs in general, and I would love to see more of it in sports, be it with on-field designs or in uniforms themselves. I feel like the only places I've ever seen it are on the sidepanels of the North Carolina basketball uniforms and the Denver Broncos endzones in 2009 and 2010. _ _That said, it's a very tricky design and I'm not entirely sure it translates well as a major design element. Any opinions?

officeglenn
I think what the New Jersey Nets had down the sides of their unis counts as argyle. _ _ _ _As the OP said, it's a tricky design element. You've got to have the right colour scheme, the right overall feel. There are a lot of teams while argyle would feel awfully forced.
Jamikel
Of course it's become a trademark of UNC's men's basketball team, but we've had a few other sports rock the argyle in recent years.
BrandMooreArt
patterns and textures are an important and powerful part of branding, sports teams have only been getting into it fairly recently at least when it comes to uniform design. especially in CFB where we see it used in numbers and on helmets. argile is definitely something that can work, it looks great in the few examples already posted. lancealot
There is a cycling team that I cannot recall that was using it in orange blue and black and it looked really good on their bikes

Gfonk04
The cycling team is Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda. They've used argyle since about 2006 in various forms:http://www.memoire-du-cyclisme.net/pelotons/equipes.php?q=212http://www.memoire-du-cyclisme.net/pelotons/equipes.php?q=14789http://www.memoire-du-cyclisme.net/pelotons/equipes.php?q=19797http://www.memoire-du-cyclisme.net/pelotons/equipes.php?q=24357http://www.memoire-du-cyclisme.net/pelotons/equipes.php?q=24785http://www.memoire-du-cyclisme.net/pelotons/equipes.php?q=25880(Linking directly to the jerseys doesn't work, sorry.)They used to use blue and orange argyle, but they've slowly dropped the orange for a two-tone blue, which stinks. They've used it in their national champions' jerseys before too. leopard88
Argyle is all the rage in lacrosse now. I'll offer a representative picture or three, but you can do a Google Image Search for "Argyle Lacrosse" for further proof. leopard88
I also offer one of my favorite MISL jerseys from the '80s. I think this counts even though it lacks the overlapping lines/empty diamonds. Sorry about the size of the white jersey. If I had to call it anything, I'd say it's a harlequin pattern. Kinda like the difference between tartan and plaid, y'know? Sigs are for sissies. Kramerica Industries
That's odd, because I thought plaid and tartan were the same thing, just a difference in term usage based on locale. I mean, I thought "tartan" was more of an English term, and "plaid" was an American term for the same thing.
